impy | why do you leave me unsupervised?

Viktor gets it. I inadvertently engaged with a fan of a character that, until this morning, I was unaware had fans. And no matter how nicely or loudly or forcefully anyone tried to explain why the argument they were making was just plain stupid, this person kept coming back for more.

So I walked away last night (before I realized they were a fan) and then this morning woke up to, well, extra nutterbutters. And because no one was around to stop me, I once more engaged. For about three seconds before more awake!me realized ohhhhhhhh, I'd found a fan. Pointed out, once more, why they weren't getting the reaction they so desperately wanted, and went about my rewatch.

I come back and realize that while completely failing, yet again, to successfully argue their points, they did bring up one interesting parallel I hadn't thought of.

Arcane fandom seems pretty divided on the whole is Silco a good father or not thing. He absolutely is not, btw, and I will not entertain such notions. Love ain't enough and good parents do not lie to their kids and keep them completely dependent on them for love. ANYWAY.

Flipside, til this morning I did not realize Marcus had fans. Like at all. His daughter? Sure, she's cute as hell. But Marcus? Fuck that guy.

But Marcus!stan got me thinking that Marcus sucks in every way possible except... I think I'd consider him a good father. Not great, since he's a corrupt cop who is kept in line because the villain (Silco, please try to keep up) is threatening the kid at this point, but take that out of the equation and Ren seems to be happy, she seems loved, and relatively scar free in the emotional and physical ways, which isn't something you can say about most of the other characters on the show.

So yeah, it's interesting that Marcus is a good father but shit at everything else, and Silco is a shit father but, well, actually kind of shitty in other ways too, but he's at least interesting in his shittiness while Marcus isn't.

For all I know this was gone over at length at the end of last year but this was the first I'd thought of it/heard of it.

And when I threw the fan a bone, they were like, "Thank you, turns out I'm not as crazy as people said I was."
