I really, really did not think that AG would actually do a Clueless collab. It was kinda weird enough having them do obviously inspired outfits (hey, Isabel) for a movie that isn't exactly for AG aged kids but whatever, fashion trickles down and beyond the inspiration, and I like the nods so I wasn't complaining. I'm still not, for the record. I am honestly surprised at the fact that nary a pearl has been clutched that I can see, which is insane considering the shit PnC got for makeup, meanwhile Cher's a virgin who can't drive. :P Did fandom grow up in the last, what, two weeks? Or is it because this is obviously marketed to adults and fandom learned to read? Or are the nostalgia goggles just that damn good? Dunno, don't care, this collab is dangerous as fuck to my wallet. Like... I ordered, dangerous. In my defense, I had rewards! Also, this speaks directly to the side of my AG collecting that is all about the WTF, I didn't expect that from AG. The prices are egregious but a) collab, b) I'm telling myself that it's probably cheaper than your average split outfit/accessories from AG lately, and c) the world is on fire and sometimes you throw caution, and your wallet, to the wind.
Damn, I didn't realize how happy and sunny Cher's outfit is, and how happy it makes me to see it considering yellow is not my favorite color by any means. But this is a serious dopamine hit on a level I didn't expect. I love all the little pieces and it doesn't feel like they cheaped out on anything. Love it, need it, will have it. But lord do I dislike the classic mold. I'm honestly a little surprised they didn't put this on Isabel.

Dionne’s Whatever! Clueless Outfit for 18-inch Dolls by American Girl® Collector Series //$80
Item#JFP91
Is there a stronger, more iconic friendship than Cher and Dionne’s? As if! Celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie Clueless with a licensed replica of Dionne’s signature high school look that will leave you totally buggin’! Pair this limited-edition 8-piece 18-inch doll outfit, shoes, and accessories set with the Cher’s As If! Clueless Outfit by American Girl® Collector Series (sold separately). No more than 5,000 Dionne’s Whatever! Clueless Outfits by American Girl® Collector Series have been created worldwide.
Premium features:
A black-and-white plaid jacket with a shiny black patent collar and sleeve cuffs, a matching pleated skirt with a faux safety-pin wrap detail, a red long-sleeved knit henley tee with faux buttons, and a white baby tee with lettuce-edge hem
A white statement hat with an oversized black patent brim with black ribbon and an attached red flower
Arrives in Collector Series packaging: an inner box that slides into an outer sleeve.
Also includes:
A pair of black knee socks
A pair of black patent platform Mary Jane shoes
A pretend cell phone with retractable antenna
Gonna be a basic bitch and admit that Dionne's hat always made this outfit, which I should love more in every way, a second runner up to Cher's. I just have limited use for hats in general, and less so for weird hats, even (especially?) if it's fAsHiOn, dahling. That being said, holy fuck do I love this color scheme more. Thank you, Sleepover Friends Stephanie Green for convincing me that red/black/white is the most sophisticated of all color combos. This one is easily the one you could use and mix and match with various other pieces AG's done over the years and make a zillion other outfits. I am itching to actually play with this one while Cher's is pretty much going to be there, be pretty, and stay as is.
Someone asked why Tai didn't get an outfit and to that I say two things:
1) god, I miss Brittany Murphy. Her death still hurts.
2) because when you ask a random what outfits they think of when you say Clueless, these are the outfits they picture. Even if they say something else, these two? They're what's in their head first and longest. I'm not sure many of Tai's would register initially, and I say that as someone who clearly loves Brittany Murphy. Hell, the one Tai outfit I could remember right away was pre-makeover, and I'm not thinking that's the outfit they'd go with.
That being said, I could easily be persuaded to buy a Tai outfit if they made one. Just saying.
