So, I finished A Stroke of Midnight.
Kay. Let's get this out in the open for anyone who reads this. I like [mostly] LKH's stuff. I love Merry. I love most of Merry's merry band of guards. I really enjoy the Merry books period. I prefer Merry to Anita. [While I can relate to the guilt in earlier Anita books, Merry has fun, damn it.]
But Christ Almighty, if I didn't just spend about eighteen bucks on filler. Little things happened, like, you know, the Seelie Court all but declaring war on the Unseelie, but since it wasn't really given too much attention by Merry, it doesn't really seem all that huge. Yet. And the reasoning behind Cel trying to kill or at least seriously maim Galen finally came to light, but nothing that made me think, "Holy Shit!" Filler to bridge the gap between the last book and the next, really. Other than Nicca finding himself a fertile match and Merry not having the sense god gave a gnat [gee, why would your crazy-ass aunt be mad that you took her Darkness and then laid claim to his replacement? hrm indeed] in regards to Mistral, nothing smacked me upside the head as a way of refering to the book. Bah. I sulk in small bits.
Since the book didn't suck, I'd have rather had more to read even if it was all filler. As it stands, I have NFI why it took so long to write it. The mind boggles, it truly does.
