dreams

So I just woke up from a dream that actually managed to be incredibly interesting while being horribly confusing and almost nightmarish at times.

Which means I'll bore you with the details.

Said dream opens in a store. I'm sort of watching things unfold right now. Later I'll get to jump in and then later still it's like I'm another person in all this mess. Two or three people are shopping in a pretty spiffy store, and one of them who bears an uncanny resemblance to Lauren Graham, is trying desperately to get the guy at the register's attention. He owns the store and his name is David. He and Lauren [who isn't Lauren, just someone who looks an awful lot like her... for now] had been dating off and on for ages. Only now David is ignoring her something awful. She's been in the store long enough that he should have tried to talk to her given how many chances she's thrown his way. The girl she's with has left to go to work in the mall, and the guy she's with is trying to avoid telling Lauren to blow this David guy off. Obviously David is an ass. Still, on their way out, not!David dude pretends to yell at Lauren for something and he threatens her, only David sees this as a test and calls the dude on it. Lauren then fusses/flirts with David and not!David leaves.

Time must pass, but I don't know how much. I gather from things said later that it's enough time for David to be interested in Lauren again, but she's moved onto not!David. But she goes to visit David's store again and this part is hard to describe. Something happens in the stockroom area of the store and it's like someone is bulldozing their way through the stockroom, heading for the store itself, then maybe the rest of the mall. It appears that the people having their way with the stockroom are intent on hitting the jewelry stores on either side of David's store. Not to mention some other places. Lauren flips out, realizing that David's got a part in all this, and she runs from the crazies and David, intent on finding her friend [who works at one of the jewelry stores] and getting people the hell out of there. About the time she leaves the stockroom running for the rest of the store/mall, I merge with her.

I start yelling at people to get the hell out of the store. I don't remember what I say, but my arms are waving around and I look as crazy as the people who are about to appear. I see my friend and she asks what the fuck is going on, and I say -something- and she asks how I know. I shoot back something about having dated one of the idiots behind this mess. Friend looks startled and I think, "crap. When the police see this video, you're gonna have some serious explaining to do."

A couple of people head for the exits, but not enough. I'm not sure why I need these people to leave other than I don't really trust the crazy people, so the innocent sheep-people have to get the hell out of there. It's just the way it's gotta be, I suppose. Anyway, yelling, screaming for a good five minutes. Finally as I realize the crazies are beginning to appear, I scream desperately, "Fire!" The sheep run for cover. I snicker to myself as I continue to scream about an imaginary fire and then the exits are closed off one by one. Eeep! There are a handful of people left in the store, and because it's a dream, I know most of them. David's there, glaring at me, and I wonder if it's possible he wants to kill my cute little self. Hrmm. The new boyfriend is there, but he seems incredibly pissed off at me too. Um, ooops? A few other people who are seriously pissed off at me are there as well. For some reason there are chairs and we're supposed to sit. But the only chair left open is next to someone I don't know and a little too out in the open. Paranoia and all that, you see.

Time passes and I start to flicker back and forth between a friend of Lauren [who by now actually looks more like Debra Messing...] and Lauren. David, new boyfriend, someone who looks an awful lot like Marcia Cross, Lauren, and possibly another person are all in this kitchen-ish area. Things are nowhere near normal.

David is pissed. Seriously. At first I can't figure out why, beyond the store fiasco. Turns out he's pissed at the new boyfriend. Which makes sense and yet doesn't. By now it's obvious to even Lauren that David hasn't loved her in years, possibly. Not since the first or second time they broke up. Ages. She points this out to him. He ignores the point and reminds her that they always get back together. "We've broken up a thousand times before. You know it doesn't mean anything. We always find our way back to each other." She reminds him, again, that he doesn't love her. Not!David does. Besides, the redhead looks interested in him. If David was pissed before, he's moved to dangerously pissed off now. The insults start going back and forth and it's not pretty. Then David says something that makes Lauren flinch and you can see all the confidence she'd picked up recently start to bleed away. It's not even that bad, whatever it is, but it's killing her that he's started leaking information that she doesn't share with just anyone she knows. So I'm about to say something to defend her, and then I merge with Lauren again and she's talking to David again. He says something under his breath and I ask what the hell is really his problem. He looks dead at the new boyfriend and mutters something that hints very much that if Lauren has slept with her new boyfriend then she's going to have some STD-explaining to do, courtesy of David and Lauren's last hookup.

I look at the new boyfriend [who's hunting up a drink for me and unable to hear any of this], who despite his annoyance earlier has proven he's a good guy who actually gives a damn about Lauren. So I say [and by now I don't know if it's me as Lauren or me as me or what] very softly to David, "Run. Run, now." Something in the way he said his little explanation makes it clear that he knew damn well he'd given her something and that whatever it is, not so good, something bad enough that David's pretty much given up the hope of finding someone else. In his head, this binds Lauren to him and they're just stuck together.

As I lunge for David and threaten the pretty redhead, the dream starts to dissolve. Woe.
Now I'm awake.
