Hanna and Gossip Girl
Could someone tell me why the name Hanna, without that extra "h" bugs me? Is it simply because it's the name of the current tropical ugly slated for possible landfall near me? Would I loathe it for that very reason, and because this town's history with H hurricanes isn't exactly good? Bah. I hope it doesn't hit. Namely because while I felt the other house could withstand just about anything, I'm not so sure about this one. Also, I really wish someone had shuffled the Widge back upstairs yesterday so that he missed all the hurricane prep talk because he won't shut up about it. I know it's scary for him, as I remember being more than a little freaked by the thought of Hugo back in the day, but it's exhausting having to try and correct his insane notions.
On the plus side, Dad finally [mostly] put to rest my fears of the oak trees in the backyard falling and crushing us like bugs. He had me right up until he started to mention that they wouldn't flatten the house just, uh... and then he trailed off. Why? Because he realized he was going to say they'd fucking crush my room. So. Now I have to ponder how to box up the Pullip Army and the special other stuff, and how to avoid looking completely insane when I bring all that with me.
Siiiiiiiigh. No hurricanes, please? I've been trying very hard this year not to mock people who whinge when they live in extremely horrible hurricane prone areas. [Except for parts of Florida. If I hear any of them complaining, I will smack someone down. But I haven't been listening, so if they have, I didn't hear, and thus my evil thoughts haven't been unleashed!]
Now. Let's discuss Gossip Girl.
It's the start of a new season, so it must be time to dip back into the books for plot points for Blair. I do believe she found herself a loverly Brit in the books, and that she tried to use him to get over Nate, so it makes sense for that to pop up in the show, if only changed for Chuck instead. Funny how what would make me spork my eyes out in the book works rather well on the show. I'm still not entirely sure where I stand on the Blair/Chuck pairing, but I suspect I fall on the side of "Yay!" Particularly since Ed and Leighton both sold the heartbreak. I... I sniffle on the inside. *hides hanky*
Not so sure how I feel about the sluttification of Dan Humphry, though. I know they wanted to shake up all the ideas you had going into the summer [Nate/Serena was false so it makes sense that Dan/Vanessa would also be false] but if you're going to have Vanessa on the show, then damn it, use her. The Nate thing was actually good for both of them, and they threw that away, so bring on the Dan/Vanessa. It might suck horribly, but at least it would be an attempt at it.
I like Jenny a lot more when she's not being considerably stupid, although if she continues to get away with her bitchy antics, I might start to dislike her. On the other hand, it's not like Eric isn't giving her a hard time, so... I guess it evens out.
Lots of very cute moments that don't add up to perfection, but I was afraid the opener would suck. And it didn't. Jenny was cute. Blair was both cute and heartbreaking. Serena was gorgeous and had some cute moments and I honestly loved her hair sparkle for the White Party. Eric is love. Rufus got screen time even if it was literally phoned in. I might like our little lord of Blair's. Nate is adorable but I cannot see his um, older woman without screaming, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" I have Gilmore Girls flashbacks. Not pretty.
I'm not sure how I feel about Serena's grandmother changing her ways. I like bitchery, you see, and she was so good at it. On the other hand, it's eerie how certain movements would call to mind Lily and then Serena, and I'm not sure if I just went a little crazy or what, but it was awesome to see her again, so I'll take it.
I also worry about Dan. I loved him last season, but I'm not so sure the love can survive into this one. And that would make me sad.
Overall, I say yay!
I need pictures of Serena. So pretty! Usually I think they've piled six feet of makeup on poor Blake, but either it's been so long that I'm willing to overlook it, or they cut way back... or learned to do it better? Whatever. Lovely. Gotta say that the previews for next week did nothing for me.
