candles candles everywhere

Yesterday's candle huffing went well. :P

Mums went in to YC AND B&BW with me, which was unusual because too much smelly stuff, especially all at once, makes her not a happy camperette. That said, we'll start with the non-smelly portion of the trip.

Hit the Tuesday Morning out in North Charleston and it's so very clean and lovely and so completely lacking in stuff. :P They had two very, very small Halloween sections and a few Autumn set-ups, but not much called my name aside from some strings of lights and a cute owl cupcake mold. My money was safe.

Now, back to YC. I've uh, never been to one and so it was a bit of a thing even if it's very, very small. I cannot imagine working there for numerous reasons (I would break everything on one of my klutzy days for one) but the girl was very nice and I felt bad that I had no intention of buying anything unless they'd managed to have Halloween out early. (They didn't, but if you're into the Twilight Silhouette thing, they did have a couple of the holders for the large jars.) I was there to sniff various scents.
In general, I was surprised by how few "Oh, God, why did I smell that?" scents I encountered. I know this isn't the case when I go sniffing at say, Target, but I'd imagine they're also seriously moving towards fall scents and I tend to love those a LOT so it's harder to ping my Ohmyglobwhywouldyoudothat sectors. I'm trying to think of the few that landed on the Do Not Buy list Mums and I made, and I think Salted Caramel is the only one I remember right off the bat and that's because I know that I would think later that I would like it. I do not.
I'm also thinking I wouldn't be a fan of the Chocolate Layer Cake but Mums took one whiff and went YES. WANT. NOW. (Actually, it was "mmm, heaven.") So we'll see, especially since the other one she loved seemed to have peach in it. Meh.

I'm impressed by how some of their more random scents could be so on the nose. Green Grass, for one, really does smell exactly like what it says it does. Which took us around the store sniffing things and deciding on which ones Dad would have liked and the memory of the time he bought a Daffodil candle. It smelled awful and would send everyone running away to find some way to block out the smell. Meanwhile Dad and Kali are sitting there, happy as clams. :P

I did walk away with one that I love, love, loooooove and will be using a coupon to order very, very shortly. Apple Pumpkin, you will be miiiiiiiiiiiine. Also, Apple Wreath. And by very shortly, I mean I just ordered them. Basically got the second one for free, if one ignores shipping and taxes. :P But since I'm not sure if the sale would have been available in the store anyway, I'm counting it as a win. Got the large Apple Pumpkin candle and then the medium Apple Wreath was $10 (Spend $25, get a medium candle for $10) and then add a $10 off a $25 order and voila. Freebie.

Other scents I enjoyed, written down for you, future!me: Apple Cider, Vanilla Bourbon (mums liked that one, too) the Crackling Seaglass if those ever go on sale, White Chocolate Apple, Vanilla Cupcake, Sun and Sand... I'll have to find the list and edit this later.

Then walked down to Bath and Body Works where I took a moment to admire how pretty Northwoods has become. And then felt sad because Citadel is a dump. :/ But I prefer their B&BW store, even if it is smaller.

First up, I'm less than pleased that Black Cherry Merlot was only really expanded into the candle department. I have no extra lotion goodness, no bodywash. I can pick out a thousand different hand soaps with it, but that's about it. It doesn't help that the candles don't really get the scent right. Boo. Hiss.

That aside, I fell in love with one candle and I'm ticked that I didn't have this knowledge when the candles went on sale Sunday night. I would have been able to use my powers for evil. As it is, I'm torn between wanting to buy one anyway (coupons do help) and wanting to wait to see what they'll do sale wise. But I really liked Leaves* so we'll see. As in I seriously debated just buying it at the store right then. Had Mums fallen in love with anything at all, or had I known we weren't stopping at the grocery store on the way home, I'd have caved. I might see if I can hit the closer store today, actually. *whistles*
I did dig a couple of the other candles, so I'm holding out hope for another sale. No real Halloween things, but they did have their pumpkin stuff out. Oh, and the cute black cat shea socks.

* I'm actually really surprised by how much I liked it because I usually hate anything with leaves in the title, so with a candle just called Leaves, I was sniffing because it was there and I wanted to smell it all. Figures it would be my absolute favorite.

I was surprised by how much I liked the bourbon vanilla hand cream that was in the B&BW southern collection earlier this year. There is something strangely soothing about it, and the way the bourbon scent cuts the sweetness of the vanilla buttercream scent. Hmm.

BOO for the lack of Black Cherry Merlot goodness! BOO HISS B&BW :( :( :(

Ooh, that's right! I'd forgotten your dance with B&BW's southern goodness. Had I remembered that, I might not have been so surprised at liking Vanilla Bourbon.

Yes, join in the booing and the hissing! They got hopes up only to dash them, possibly laughing as they did so. So rude.
