Courtney's Guinea Pig // $32
Item#GRN43
Courtney shares a room with her stepsister, Tina, and her guinea pig, Parsley. Tina thinks he’s “grody,” but Courtney loves him because he was a gift from her dad. She takes good care of him and feeds him his favorite food: parsley! The set includes:
A plush guinea pig with multicolored patches
A cage for Parsley that opens and closes
A name plate to add his name to the cage
A log cave where Parsley can hide
A food dish that fits inside the cage with pretend food pellets for the bowl
A clump of carrots for Parsley to eat as a snack
A water dispenser that clips to the side of the cage
A pet booklet with guidance on caring for a guinea pig
A sheet of stickers to decorate the cage

Grody is a word I never actually heard in the wild. Anyone else? Maybe I'm just young enough (ha, running out of chances to say that phrase) to have missed it. Or maybe I simply didn't run in crowds that would've used it. Anyway, Parsley there is cute but I agree with those who point out they didn't quite get the essence of guinea pig right. Maybe just flipping the ears? *muse* Still closer than some companies. I'd heard OG's GP was cuter but that is a damn lie that I won't link to.

Courtney's TV and Fitness Accessories // $100
Item#GTK48
Courtney and her stepsister, Tina, have a TV in their bedroom to watch music videos, enjoy movies on VHS tapes, and even to do some workout videos. This set includes:
A TV with an attached VCR that really works! When you turn the dial, it plays short videos of a newscast, a music video, fun commercials, a clip from the Care Bears™ animated series from the 1980s, and even static!
A VHS tape in a case with ’80s graphics that can be inserted into the VCR to play a workout. VCR buttons work to pause, stop, rewind, and eject the tape
Two pink hand weights with straps so Courtney can really hold them
A multicolored jump rope with plastic handles to hold
A yellow bean bag chair where Courtney can veg out while she watches TV

*dies* And even static. Oh, AG. Oh, Gen Z. Dying, brb. Anyway, um, I love this. I hate myself for loving it, but I do. I could do without the Heather clip seeming to do the boob thrust which is more of the shoulders back thing that seemed to be part of many a dance but still looks SUPER awkward on a doll, but otherwise I really like this. I will say that part of me weeps because I didn't have a TV in my room until I was a teenager and I wasn't super behind on this in my friend group. Well, sort of. I did briefly have one in third grade when I won the Nintendo but then somehow, despite me winning it, it got moved to my brother's room. I think that was because his room was bigger and it was understood that it was to be shared and his room had the space. Anyway, tangent aside. I think this is cute. I'm not sure how many kids had pink TVs in 1986 but I'm not sure it's possible to hit a more stereotypical thing than 80's home workout gear so here we are. Oh, the product page has a video of the TV settings so you can also marvel. Beware their "we will this to be an earworm Courtney jingle" thing they've done for everything Courtney so far.

And bean bag chairs are classic.

Courtney's Fitness Outfit // $32
ItemGWM42
When Courtney wants to do a workout video with her mom or just dance to her favorite music videos, she can get dressed in this aerobics outfit that includes:
A heather-gray cropped sweatshirt with pink and yellow bands on the sleeves and a graphic on the front
A blue leotard with an allover print
A pair of hot-pink leggings with ’80s-style stirrups at the feet
A pair of blue knit leg warmers just like dancers wear
A blue terry-knit sweatband to hold back her hair when she’s working out

Here's where I start to wonder if my incoming rant (see the end) is clouding my vision or if I simply don't love Courtney the doll, OR if this is just not for me. I love parts of it. I love the idea. I don't even mind the price. But I don't love the whole thing as is. Perhaps when people start bringing it home and putting it on other dolls I'll know how I truly feel, but as it is, this is giving me 80's inspired vibes and less actual 80's vibes. Or maybe I just think AG butts look stupid in in this leo? *muse* I don't know. I like the leggings and the stirrups are giving me the worst, WORST flashbacks but I also love just how blindingly neon these are.

AG Air Lines
American Girl Air Lines // $275
Item#GWN92
Get ready to take off on an amazing trip in a luxury cabin! Passengers on this special AG flight can hear captain and flight attendant announcements and enjoy all the amenities of first-class services with this set that includes:
An American Girl Air Lines plane with functioning overhead storage, a window with changeable night and day scenes, a light-up TV screen, and light-up drink storage compartment. Plus, there’s a flight attendant station on the opposite side.
A chair where a doll can enjoy the flight watching a movie, napping, looking out the window, reading magazines, or daydreaming about the destination
A small airline pillow and blanket for sleeping or just reclining and relaxing
A pair of fuzzy print socks to keep toes toasty
An eye mask for blocking out light during naps
Four TV screens that fit inside the TV: a movie, air map, video game, and in-flight entertainment. Each one activates different sounds when the TV button on the wall is pressed!
A pretend TV remote the doll can hold to choose a channel
A pair of headphones the doll can wear for in-flight entertainment, or hang on the wall from a special hook
A platter that holds the airline meal with a dome lid that covers it to keep it warm
Faux chicken, broccoli, rice, and a fruit cup that are part of the in-flight dinner service
A golden fork to enjoy the meal
Two fabric napkins printed with the American Girl Air Lines logo
A pretend cookie to enjoy as an in-flight snack
Three different drink cans that fit inside the wall storage compartment
A clear toiletry bag to hold necessities for freshening up
A toothbrush and a tube of faux toothpaste
A bottle of pretend lotion for keeping hands moisturized
A bottle of faux hand sanitizer for a quick clean-up before and after meals and snacks
A tube of pretend lip balm to ward off chapped lips
A shopping magazine and an AG magazine to read
A flight safety card that outlines precautions and emergency instructions

*eyes glaze over* It has been awhile since AG's put out something relatively expensive that I just simply don't...care...about? I don't know. People lost their damn minds over this being sneak peeked in the catalog and in windows at stores and I just don't care one way or another about it? I feel like it needs another seat and meal. As it is, it feels like a very well put together game of let's pretend for one.

American Girl Air Lines Cart // $75
Item#GWN93
When dinnertime or snack time roll around, so does this fancy food cart that helps the flight attendant easily move everything down the aisle of the American Girl Air Lines plane. It includes:
A food cart that’s mounted on wheels that turn and roll, and includes three drawers and gold accents
A menu with food items to choose from for each meal
A tray that holds croissants
Two plates that are designed to hold breakfast and lunch foods, and two lids to cover food to keep it hot
Two water bottles
Two drink cans
Two croissants, two waffles, and a slice of bacon for an in-flight breakfast
A sandwich and fruit cup for a healthy lunch
A raspberry tart dessert and a dessert plate for a sweet treat
Two bags of pretzels to munch on at snack time

I would like some croissants, thank you. Also, dude. Grace might be the most influential AG GOTY in ages because the model they used on her collection is one they're still using today. (Big playset with smaller playset that's kind of required for the big playset sold separately and still costs a goddamn fortune. Plus international travel. To say nothing of their love affair with Paris.) This probably should've been included with the other playset but this way they can make alllllllllllllll the money. I guess I sort of take back my assessment that the other set *needs* another meal as they just threw it in here but still.
I do like that the colors used would work for Blaire's restaurant, too. I may not like them chopping up playsets (though that is vintage AG) but I do like when they use their brains for tying in previous purchases.

AG Air Lines Flight Attendant Uniform // $ 36
Item#GWN80
Keeping passengers safe and happy is hard work. But flying the skies is also super fun in this flight attendant uniform that includes:
A red button-front collared top with short sleeves
An asymmetrical pink and red colorblock skirt with belt loops
A thin navy belt with a buckle
A red pillbox hat attached to a headband to help keep it in place
A cute neck scarf with a pink and red print
A pair of dark-navy ballet flats
A pad of paper with an AG Air Lines graphic and a faux pen dolls can hold

I don't love pink and red together. That's all. This is cute enough, it's fine, it clashes a bit with the purple color scheme of the plane, but if they came out with this same outfit in another color, I'd probably want it. And since AG likes these colors (just to fuck with your ability to take pictures in store), it also makes sense why they'd use them. Dying that the print on the scarf is "AG" printed over and over. That actually makes me like this 100% more.

AG Air Lines Pilot Uniform // $36
Item#GWN64
There’s no mistaking who’s in charge of a safe take-off and landing. Dolls can report for duty in this airline captain uniform that includes:
A white button-front sleeveless shirt with a collar
A pair of dark-navy pants with an elastic waist
A navy jacket with four gold stripes on the sleeves indicating captain status, plus a wings pin
A pair of dark-navy ballet flats
A pilot’s hat with an American Girl Air Lines logo, gold trim, and a navy brim
A neck scarf with a red and pink print to add a splash of color

I feel like there should be socks. I do like that the scarf with the print is here as well. I like that the shirt and jacket are apparently separate pieces. I'm kind of meh about the whole thing but I'm thinking maybe that's just my mood at this point. Cute. But needs socks.

Rant time starts NOW. Courtney's terribly 80's jeans are apparently no longer available. There's no word on whether they're actually sold out forEVER or if it's simply a supply issue as a lot of Courtney's things have spent a good chunk of the four months she's been out on massive backorder. I tried asking and got just a "sorry, can't comment" reply. Pretty much the entirety of Courtney's wardrobe is hinged on the mix and match idea and as I stated before, it's been out for 4 months. I don't mind AG doing limited edition pieces for historicals when they label them as such. This? This annoys the fuck out of me. It feels like at best, they had a supply problem and can't get what they need and are just stuck, possibly for now. At worst it feels like they're going to use this to force people to think things are LE and BUY BUY BUY. And instead of making me want to run out and buy everything Courtney so I don't get caught unaware again, it's making me not want to buy ANYTHING AG.

I admit that I am apparently having a very grumpy day in general (don't know why, blaming period) but this ticks me off. I don't love the regular Mix and Match stuff being sorta LE (some of it lingers forever, sometimes it disappears within a couple of weeks) but after it became apparent that they'd switch up that part of the line frequently, it made sense. This? Cuts terribly into her wardrobe options.

Harrumph.

Oh, and her second book deals with AIDS and is out today at AG, too.

I didn't have a TV in my bedroom until I was a grown-ass adult, LOL. So yeah, that's a bit much for 'regular 80s experience' - hell, I remember our TV in the 80s being big and awkward. Remember VHF and UHF? I do!

The thing that's wrong with the fitness outfit is that it's pink and blue instead of that classic 80s combination of pink and green. If all the blue stuff was green instead, it would hit *all* those 80s vibes.

Airlines? Well, that's certainly....different. Most people who fly don't get the luxury of being in first class, so this is all aspirational/wish fulfillment as far as I'm concerned. Pretty high on the "meh" scale for me, too.

Wow, they are trying to tackle AIDS in the books now? That gives me cringe similar to the B'ham bombings in the Melody books. Just - YIKES. Don't go there, please!
