Charmed fiction? Ewww... right?
For some reason I decided to attempt to write. It's probably crap, and I can accept that. Still, it might be okay, and thus I'll put up bits and pieces until it's either done or I decide it really is god awful. ;)
Oh, time frame. Sometime after the start of S6, but no specifics cuz I'm remaining fairly spoiler free [or attempting it.] Leo's been found but is still not um, around, Chris is still whitelighter and NOT Wyatt from the future, Paige is unnattached, and Phoebe and Jason are still doing that mating dance they do.

eventual title here
"Aaaaaaaaauugh!" The scream split through the air and if it were possible to wake the dead with just a scream, that one probably would have done just that. But it didn't. Nor did it call any attention to the screamer. Not because the city was uncaring, but because the only people around to hear the scream were dead. In fact, the only one alive within hearing distance was the one who'd done the screaming in the first place.
Wiping his hands on his dark jeans, he looked around at the chaos that surrounded him. Nine bodies lay at his feet, the blood soaking his feet still warm. Nine women dead. No, nine witches dead. There was an important difference. Mere mortals didn't interest him, but witches.... Witches were his passion.
If he'd wanted to, he could have seen every freckle, every scar on their bodies. The flickering light from the dying fires wasn't even necessary as he had extraordinary night vision. But he didn't really care to get to know the victims.
There was no reason to. They were witches and as such they deserved whatever they got. He'd caused this destruction, this massacre. Somewhere deep inside he was sure that this should bother him. That this much death, needless some would argue, should spark something in his soul.
And it did.
His lips curled up in a cruel smile as he took in the lifeless bodies around him. Yes, the scene moved him. Joy and satisfaction welled up inside him for one very important reason.
This was only the beginning.
-----
Paige yawned sleepily. She was baby-sitting her nephew again while Piper closed the club up for the night. Normally Paige loved spending time with her nephew, even if it was just watching over him while he slept, but this was the fourth time this week her plans had to be changed. Twice were due to various demonic emergencies and that didn't really bother her. But tonight she'd been promised a good time out on the town with a very cute guy, and instead of going out partying, she'd been stuck on baby duty.
Why?
Because her other sister, Phoebe, had flaked out on her responsibilities. Again. All because her on-again/off-again boyfriend Jason Dean had finally returned to San Francisco. She'd been in such a hurry to go and "welcome him back" that she'd completely forgotten that she'd promised to Wyatt-sit, which left Paige to fill in.
"At least one of us is having a great time," she muttered. It had been weeks since she'd been out with anyone and she didn't want to admit it to either of her sisters, but she was beginning to wonder if something was wrong.
As much as she'd wanted to go out with Terrence [the guy she'd had to bail on], she knew that the date would end with her coming back to the Manor. Alone. Which was fairly unusual for Paige since she really enjoyed speed dating. But for the last couple of months she'd begun to sort of grow out of it.
"Maybe I'm just not meeting the right guys. What do you think, Wyatt?" she asked.
Wyatt slowly opened his baby blue eyes and gurgled something Paige couldn't understand. He then closed his eyes and went right back to sleep.
"Night, little guy," she whispered as she gave him a quick kiss on the forehead before heading downstairs to wait for Piper.
She was only halfway down the stairs when she saw a flurry of blue and white lights appear in the hallway.
"Leo?" she asked before she could stop herself.
The young man who'd appeared scowled at her. "No, Paige. I'm Chris. You remember, your new whitelighter?" he said in a very sarcastic voice.
"Old habits," she said, not really feeling up to fighting with him.
His expression softened. "I know. So, how's Wyatt?" he asked.
"Asleep. And he'd better stay that way, or else you're going to be watching him," she warned as she walked down the rest of the stairs.
He smirked. "Somehow I doubt he'd like that much."
"And somehow I doubt you orbed in here to ask me about Wyatt. What's the matter in Elder-land? Another demon bent on molding the Underworld into his vision of demonic-Utopia? Another Source come to get an ass-kicking?" Paige rattled off theories, hoping that she hadn't inadvertently jinxed them.
"Huh?" Chris stared at her, dumfounded.
"You orbed here. I didn't call you. Wyatt still can't speak, so... Why the visit?" Sometimes Paige wondered how wise it was of Leo and the other Elders to have left Chris in charge of them.
Chris frowned. "Oh, yeah. That. Well, I was hoping Phoebe and Piper would be here by now, actually."
"Why? What's up?"
"Maybe we should wait for your sisters."
"Maybe. And maybe you should have been able to sense if they were here or not before you orbed in here. Maybe you wanted to talk to me and now you've gone and chickened out."
Chris felt himself blush and forced himself to not look away. "How was I supposed to know that they wouldn't be here? It's after midnight, Paige. If I'd really wanted to get you alone, I'd have orbed in hours ago," he shot back.
"Oookay then... If you want to wait for them, fine. But I don't think Phoebe's coming back tonight. She has a date with Jason."
"Yeah, I saw."
Paige arched an eyebrow at this.
"What? It's my responsibility to check in on you guys!"
"Right. And again you should have known they weren't here."
Chris scowled at her again and muttered, "Whatever."
"Paige? Chris? Am I interrupting something?" they heard Piper ask.
For the first time they realized just how close they'd been standing to one another. Paige blushed furiously and Chris just glared at Piper.
"No, Piper. We were just-"
"Talking!" Paige interrupted Chris' explanation. "We were just talking. How's the club?"
"Fine... I'm thinking of hiring some new servers. You two are acting really weird," Piper commented as she walked past them.
Chris cleared his throat, "Well, as I was trying to tell Paige, we have a problem."
"Problem? What kind of problem? You didn't mention a problem!" Paige shrieked.
"Paige, shush! The baby?" Piper reminded her before turning to Chris. "What kind of problem?"
"Someone's killing witches. That kind of problem," he said.
"You did not mention any of this before," Paige muttered.
Piper waved a hand at Paige and hissed another "shush!"
Chris smirked.
"Don't start," Piper warned. "Who's killing witches? How? Why?" she demanded. Her heart began to beat furiously. If they were killing local witches then Wyatt would be in danger. And if it wasn't local, Chris wouldn't be telling them about it, right?
"The Elders don't know."
Paige snorted. "Big surprise there."
Snickering, Piper turned her attention to Chris. "Do they know anything, or are witches just dropping off their radar?"
"This isn't funny," he warned them. "This is serious."
"It's always serious, Chris."
"Then why don't you two start acting like it, Paige, instead of mocking the Elders?"
"Because the Elders-"
"Would you two just shut up? God, it's like Prue and Phoebe all over again," Piper muttered.
Paige flinched at the mention of Prue, as she always did when Piper brought her up. She couldn't help it, but she always felt like Piper was somehow comparing the two. Plus, anytime Piper mentioned their oldest sister, Paige was afraid Piper would dissolve into tears. Especially lately, what with Leo's 'promotion' and all.
Chris however, didn't have this history with his charge and as a result felt no reason to change the subject immediately. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means you two are acting like two bratty children. Quit it. Now, about the witches, what happened?"
Before Chris could answer, the phone began to ring.
"Who'd be calling this late, especially with Wyatt?" Piper grumbled.
Paige didn't answer and instead held out her hand and calmly said, "phone," causing the cordless to appear in her hand. "Hello? Darryl is that you? Why are you calli- Oh God. Of course, we'll be right there." She hung up and turned to her sister.
"Why was Darryl calling? Let me guess, he's got a case for us?"
"Yup. I'm betting it's the one Chris was telling us about. Only Darryl didn't really want to talk about it on the phone. He wants us out there, now. Come on." Paige reached out to grab Piper's hand.
"Wait, what about Wyatt?" Piper asked.
"Oh, Chris can watch him." With that, Paige clasped her sister's hand and they dissolved into blue and white lights, orbing off to a murder scene in a nearby park, leaving Chris alone with baby Wyatt.
-----
Phoebe quietly slipped into bed next to Jason who was snoring softly. A second ago she'd been filled with this strangest feeling that she had to get back to the Manor, that something awful was happening. But when she'd entered the bathroom to call for Paige or Chris, the feeling had gone away.
Besides, if it were anything important they'd find her. Why waste a perfectly good opportunity to enjoy the return of her boyfriend?

edit: made this finally. You know, should Paige ever catch something, we can narrow down the playing field a bit. ;) I know it's missing the leprechaun, anyone else? [not counting the unidentified dude from the band in 'nymphs.]
