Tales from the room

So I spent all of yesterday cleaning my bathroom, and this doesn't include what you would normally consider for 'cleaning the bathroom.' The toilet is not scrubbed, the tub is about a fourth of the way clean (another shower and we'll hit 3/4, I think), and I'm not even going to discuss the sink's many and varied issues, though it's not a horrible sight to behold.

No, my bathroom is actually fairly large. It's probably about as big as the bathroom we all shared in the house I grew up in but the layout is different. Mine is set up in an inverted T shape and it's a big part of why I chose this room when we moved in. It's also a big reason I didn't move out the once or twice I was sort of asked by friends in the midst of their nomadic states. (Own. Bathroom. No sharesies!) Because of the shape and sheer size, I tend to use the part furthest away from the tub as storage. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Anyway, the room was a mess. I'm a slob by nature so... yeah. It was bad. It literally took me from maybe... 9:30am to 6pm to clean it all, and I still didn't get under the sink (which will mostly involve throwing things out from when I was a teenager or Cass lived here), do any laundry (that's what I'm doing this morning before I attack my actual room), or sort through some of the stuff stored in there. That last one will be ongoing throughout the week, sadly.

Plus side, my bathroom now echoes again. :D Downside, I'd forgotten that the floor itself is actually kind of slippery when there's so much of it exposed. Really should have bought that bathmat at Kmart. I have to psych myself up to work on my room though. I'm getting there by telling myself that when it's done, I'll feel less anxious about things and I'll get to play and most importantly, I can resort my books.

Yes. I am bribing myself to clean with the thought of cleaning my bookcases. *pets them lovingly* You should've seen me yesterday as I was putting away books that I'd squirreled away in the dresser that dares not speak its name. Two new shelves to put stuff on! TWO WHOLE SHELVES. If I hadn't been coated in dust bunnies that might've been older than Widget, I might've gone right into book sorting mode right then.

Oi.

Elsewhere, I'm trying to decide whether to persue the AG free shipping code beyond the two dresses I bought Saturday. (They're "limited edition" for the New Orleans dolls and Cecile reminded me that the historical collection Needs My Help. Since no one knows how limited LE is... I jumped immediately.) I've been eying McKenna's starter collection. I'm not particularly sold on the doll (or the having another AG doll so soon after Cecile with the odds being so high with Molly and Emily being archived this year) but I want her gymnastics stuff for Ivy. The only way to get her Warm Up outfit is to buy the starter set, which includes:

  • McKenna

  • McKenna's Accessories

  • both McKenna books (which I've read and enjoyed)

  • McKenna's Practice Wardrobe

  • Warm Up outfit exclusive to the starter set.

Basically the only thing I'm not sold on is the doll herself. But I have options for this. If I do not love her enough to keep her, I can:
gift her to Widget's sister(s)
gift her to Cass or to Cass for Jess
sell her later on

... Yeah. Options definitely exist, especially since this year they keep putting her stuff on backorder. You sell her at the right time and you don't even have to wait til next year to recoup your costs. In theory, anyway. Ebay selling is a bitch if you're not accustomed to it (and even if you are) and I'm not really the buy to resell type, y'know?

So I sit here, contemplating my options though I'm leaning more towards getting her and harvesting the stuff I do want. Free shipping with a price point is a bit of a bitch. That said, I do have two other things on my to buy list, one of which is on sale this week. Yays!

Oi, self. Go back to cleaning so you might have some room to put this stuff if/when you cave.

Now, tell me a story or post or something so that in three hours when I realize I've blocked my only escape route and HAVE to finish but I'm at that "don't wannnnnnnnnnaaaaaa" stage, I can check my phone and be amused by your wit, your photos, your very awesome selves. Emails will roll out sometime soon, depending on whether my previous cleaning expeditions have properly laid the foundation for this being a surface is horrible but underneath we're semi-organized mission, or if this is going to take the rest of my natural life.

Self, you must do this today because this winter rain brings immediate weather changes. Since we are currently on a winter setting, tomorrow or possibly even this evening, we will switch to summer, and you don't want to clean during that. Go forth! Now!

Ah, the adventures of cleaning :P Your bathroom sounds kinda awesome - I'd be reluctant to leave it, too! LOL. And this:

I UNDERSTAND THE LURE AND TEMPTATION OF THIS, SFM. OMG. Booksies!! ♥

(And in a roundabout way this reminded me that I need to rip you a copy of Freeze Frame. Yay randomness!)

Haha, the "Just one more computer check and then I *swear* I'll start cleaning again". I was going to suggest ebay, but looking at that outfit, people are greedy mofos on there, so eff that noise. Yikes. Unfortunate that the whole package is the only way. Do they usually do that or will they seperate it out later maybe?

I reward myself with organizing too! You wouldn't think it for the mess everything is usually in, but I love alphabetizing the games or genre-sorting the dvds. Really want to tackle Sailor Moon too, but I get stymied by not knowing exactly where all to put everything since where I want to is close by a window. :/ And I want to put up the drafting table I bought last week, but I want to get the dining room table into another room, but it's too big and so I can't move the cat thing, either and the chairs are taking up space and blarg!! Need a bigger house!

And I love that you would not move out on the sole-basis of the bathroom. I think that's pretty much why I chose apt instead of dorms in college. ;)

As far as I know, this is the first year they've done something like this. Store exclusives and outfits/accessories you can only get in store with a purchase of about $50 or more, yes, but never something bundled in this way. Based on how quickly this seems to have gone on backorder, I'm going to assume their little evil plan to force the doll to sell has worked and that outfit is only going to be available through the bundle or if someone specifically buys said bundle to resell the outfit. Which, currently, would involve saying goodbye to a major organ.

Mmm. Organizing. *purrs* Again, you'd never know it to look at my stuff (short of books) right after it's been done, but... yes. Tell me of your Sailormoon plans! Sometimes that helps work out the planning kinks!

Need teleportation device. Then I could come and help you move your table and tell the chairs to stop taking up quite so much space, have they no consideration for the other things in the house?

My bathroom is awesome and totally worth not having the stories of living next to drug dealers (or with them) and whatever else I missed while I could still take a shower without having to worry about other people's stuff invading.

I bribe myself too. if I work on school stuff or clean for X amount of time, then I can goof off online for Y amount of time. I need to clean our bathroom again. I clean the bathroom and my sister does the dishes. I think it's a fair trade.

But if it is like almost 80 degrees tomorrow I am going to punch Bill Walsh in the face. There is something very wrong about having to run the a/c in FEBRUARY.

[identity profile] snarky-imp.livejournal.com 2012-02-28 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
That is a nice trade-off of chores. I loathe doing the dishes (and the bathroom) so nicely done! And yay for bribery, it's how the work gets done. :D

I will join you in the punching. This winter has totally screwed with my head. I really, really don't remember a winter where it would seesaw quite so dramatically. No AC in February! Not allowed! This is my off-season, man.
