Friday Night Frights
Much like Ghouls Rule, I don't feel bad at all about taking advantage of the leaked copy of Friday Night Frights. I'm going to buy the movie any way and watching it actually moved it pretty far up my list.
I will say that if you're a fan of the lesser used characters (so Lagoona & Operetta) or the newbies (Rochelle, Robecca), you're probably going to want to give it at least a quick look.
I assume you can find/have found the trailer since it's been out for months. I'm... not sure why this never made it to air as a special (it was supposed to) but I think it's actually my favorite of the movies thus far.
Yes. I'm serious.
After the MH Scream Team is taken out by 'questionable' tactics courtesy of their new "oldest rivals" the somethingsomething Gargoyles, Frankie gets the idea to assemble a new team. The girls are game and try and recruit a bunch of new guys to the team. Sadly it appears skating is particularly difficult for monsters around here as none of the new recruits seems all that good. However Lagoona is super awesome at it and when attempts to get the guys to listen to her fail, Frankie gets the idea to have Lagoona be on the team. :D
The boys refuse to play on a team with a girl and even question how legal it is. Robecca Steam is mentioned and apparently she was the first SuperStar of the SCREAM arena, but she went missing ages ago. Manny and Heath (the only members of the old team not injured) refuse to play with a bunch of girls and quit. This has never/will never stop Frankie, so she's just sparked up enough to make a team with nothing but girls. Which is temporarily awesome until...
You realize Frankie and Draculaura are painfully bad. Cleo's even worse simply because she doesn't try (but she's fabulously amusing and it's going to KILL me that she's not getting a RM doll. Everyone else has one/is getting one is shown suiting up), but Lagoona, Clawdeen, and Abbey are fangtastic. They figure they don't need to be great to beat the first team they're up against (zombies!) but... um, nerves and Frankie don't mix and the team is disqualified.
Operetta turns out to be a great skater and eventually joins the team after initially turning them down when she realizes that the girls are bucking the system. She's just not a great team mate, unfortunately. (When she joins, Cleo quits.)
There's a cute moment where Draculaura stands up to Clawd who is really worried (and showing it by being a bit of a tool) about Draculaura getting seriously hurt and trying to talk her out of playing on the team.
I fangirl for Lagoona something hardcore, but that scene with Clawd and Draculaura is actually my favorite bit.
Any way, the girls lose again but Ghoulia's been working on something. She's found most of the pieces to the legendary Robecca Steam and assembles them to recreate Bex. Bex isn't able to play with the ghouls because she's still missing a piece, but she's willling to coach them. (Clawd was already doing that as he's not quite as dense as you might have feared.)
You find out Toralei is dating the captain of the Gargoyle team but I still don't really like seeing her help another team cheat. :/
Rochelle, tired of seeing her team (the Gargoyles) treat girls like second class citizens AND cheat, quits and reveals she's put in a transfer to MH already. She joins the team and is super fabulous, which isn't surprising since the Gargoyles are good at Scream.
Anywhoozle, while I gather Frankie either makes it to passable (or doesn't mind being the worst or second worst player on the team), Draculaura is worried about bogging the team down and begs Clawd not to put her in the game. He reluctantly agrees and puts Clawdeen in instead. The gargoyles cheat and Clawdeen gets hurt. She fakes the injury being worse than it is so Draculaura is thrown into the game ("but we have a chance to win!") annnnnd Operetta is proven to have paid attention to the whole "no I in team" speech.
The ghouls win and I'm making it sound horribly boring but it's really cute and funny. Venus isn't annoying in her crusade (though she does sound like a broken record familiar to any BSC Dawn fans) but she does cross the line on using her powers when she shouldn't, but since I'm not sure where in the continuity this should fall (obviously before Rochelle and Robecca were introduced) I'm willing to accept that sometimes she's going to backslide on that. I do know it irked people though, when she was first shown using it.
I was kind of meh on the RM line but this makes me happy I have all the dolls currently available. :D
It also makes me want a Fearleader Frankie with silver lips, RM Cleo (because I want the green and blue streaks!) and I'm hoping RM Draculaura is going to exist because super short hair, cute!
Oh, and head!canon says that Andy and Cupid are dating because the stock footage of them cheering together is shown so damn much. :P
OH. OH! To make up for their earlier behavior, Manny and Heath cheer on the RM girls and I snorted into Ozma's fur. Heath, just when I'm ready to write you off again, you prove why rumours of your dollhood had better friggin' be true.
Their routine goes about as well as you'd expect.
There's also a thing where the school is falling apart because in Scream they play for School Crests which means the losing team also loses its school spirit and, yeah, it's kind of ridiculous if you think about it for half a second. So I'm ignoring that and will distract you with this piece of information: Watch Robecca when Cleo is getting fired up about the prospects of the team beating the Gargoyles. She does this adorable little move in the background when Cleo acknowledges her. So cute!
