AG: June 14th release
Jun. 17th, 2019 10:58 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
New AG release time which means very long post ahead.
To the people complaining that it's too early for Blaire's new outfit (it's very much a fall/autumn outfit), I must ask: are you new to the planet? Specifically fashion and/or AG? The GOTY gets her second/final release mid-year and honestly, all of her other stuff is super spring/summer so let the girl have some sleeves. Also, yes, I hate the thought of sleeves now that it's a billion degrees outside, but alas, fashion is evil. So take that up with a higher power because we're not it.
All of this is to say that hey, new AG release came down Friday. Woo?
Since we already mentioned her, we'll start with Blaire.

Blaire's Casual Outfit // $34
item# GDV19
Blaire loves to take inspiration from the autumn weather by dressing in cozy outfits when she helps her mom test recipes for the family’s farm-to-table restaurant. Outfit includes:
A soft long-sleeved dress with a flower print and a gray pair of tights that are perfect for moving around the kitchen
A knit infinity scarf to keep her warm when she goes out to the garden for herbs
A sturdy pair of brown boots with real laces
A knotted headband to hold her hair back
You ever want to like something more than you actually do? That's how I feel about this outfit. I'll probably buy it but it doesn't quite gel for me and I'm not quite sure why. Is it because I still find Blaire's lips to photograph oddly? Well, yes, probably. But also something about the color combo going on here is just not working for me. Not sure if this is AG's failtography in action or if there's something off for other people as well. In theory, though, it works. And I've gotta say, scarf aside, it looks comfy. And IRL pictures make the colors look more cohesive, which is nice.

Blaire's Restaurant Accessories // $30
Item#GDV20
When Blaire is done with her homework, she stops by the restaurant to say hello to the diners. She loves to put on an apron and help fill water glasses, deliver dessert, or update the menu board. Includes:
An apron with her farm’s logo and pockets that are perfect for holding a server notepad with pages that tear out and a pen for taking down orders
A customizable menu board with reusable stickers for a changing menu, and stand to hold it
A server tray for carrying out food to guests
A carafe and two glasses for serving water
Two servings of delicious dairy-free creme brulee—Blaire’s signature dish!
A check presenter and three pretend dollars for change at the end of the meal
This is another cute set though I'm not in love with it. I like the idea of AG having smaller sets to supplement their big ticket item, particularly in cases like this. I do wonder why AG never goes beyond their three pretend dollar bills, though. The kid in me wants to scribble a bunch of orders on that pad, though.
Figure Skating Outfit // $32
Item#GDX23
Shine at center ice! Her doll can compete in this performance set, featuring:
A stretch-lace leotard with a double-ruffle skirt, mesh sleeves, and rhinestone details at the neckline for sparkle when she spins
A lace flower hair tie with rhinestones glimmering at the center for a fancy touch
White figure skates with metal blades so she can glide across the ice
Glittery skate guards to help her walk off the rink
Look, I couldn't tell you why, but apparently in the last decade or so, buying the skating outfits on clearance has become a thing I do and this one will be no exception. I think it looks fine if a little meh on 22 here, but I've seen it on a couple of the not!Josefina TM dolls and I love. Love. I asked someone who bought this about it and they said it was pretty delicate so I'll have to keep that in mind. But it also reminds me of the Merry Magenta outfit from a couple of years back. But upon further inspection, it appears this outfit is darker and not as similar as my memory would have lead me to believe. Huzzah.

Shimmering Ballet Outfit // $28
Item#GDW56
Her doll’s confidence will shine when she takes center stage to perform in this shimmering outfit! Includes:
A practice- or recital-ready lavender leotard with extra sparkle on the sheer mesh at the neckline and sleeves
A layered purple tutu with added glitter on the top to catch the spotlight
A pair of soft matching tights
A glittery elastic headband to keep her hair in place while she dances
A pair of classic pink ballet slippers
Saw this in a small promo picture somewhere and went "NEED". Saw this larger picture and it didn't register anything in my brain initially. Saw it in people's pictures from the store and went meh. I've circled back to want, but maybe sale price want. I think it's cute and I'm glad AG's not having the tutu sewn to the leotard again, but I've seen this look a bit wonky on the display dolls.
Ballet Practice Accessories // $30
Item#GDW57
Her doll will be ready to raise the barre at her next ballet class with this set! Includes:
A long-sleeved multicolored ballet wrap sweater and pair of pink cable-knit legwarmers for the start of class
A water bottle with a dance graphic
An energy bar for a quick snack
A container of pretend lip balm and three colorful hairbands
A glittery silver bag to hold everything, featuring purple straps and two pom poms and star charm for added personal flair
Let's address the real issue in this set: why is the energy bar bigger than the water bottle? Someone (the asshat or her mother, and no, I am not kidding about the mother bit) complained that the bar was too big but no. No, honey, the bottle is too fucking small. I really like the bag, which should surprise absolutely no one because purple and glitter? Duh. I like the leg warmers and the little lipgloss tube but I don't really like the wrap sweater with the ballet outfit it's supposed to pair with. So while I love certain aspects of this set, it's a sale only thing for me.

American Girl Birthday Party Set // $35
Item#GDX56
Happy birthday! She can throw the ultimate American Girl themed party for her doll with this set, featuring:
A fancy birthday cake with pink and white frosting and three layers of ombre cake; two slices can be “served” to party guests
A glittery “Happy Birthday” cake topper and shiny golden platter for extra sparkle
Two cake plates, two metal forks, and two fabric napkins with starry print
Two cups of pink lemonade for sipping between bites
Two table game sheets with bingo, a word search, and a maze just for fun
Two goody bags to fill with doll-sized sticker sheets and bracelets with metal star charms
A pretend doll-sized FUJIFILM™ INSTAX Mini 9 camera to capture the moment. Dolls can really hold the camera with a wrist strap. Push the side button to make the lens pop forward, and press the shutter button to make the photo pop up!
Three photos of special memories made
If you listen very carefully, you can hear everyone lose their minds over the camera and then flinch at the price of the set when they realize that's the only thing they want. I find myself in a weird place. For $30, I'd buy this so fast your head would spin as I like just about everything in the set. But for some reason the fact that it's $35 is making me hesitate. Well, that and the fact that I don't have the money for it, but we'll go with the price since when I make these comments, it's usually based on whether I've thrown them into my cart ASAP -mentally- or not. Also, now I want cake.

All Star Hockey Set // $75
Item#GDX21
Dolls can hit the ice to practice their hockey skills, from skating to shooting, with this realistic set. It features:
A hockey helmet with a chin strap and metal face guard to keep her safe while she plays
A team jersey to wear over her shoulder pads
Protective gear: breezers with padding on the sides, shin guards and a pair of jersey-matching socks to cover them, and elbow pads
Durable black hockey skates and red sparkle skate guards
A hockey stick she can really hold
Red hockey tape she can use to tape her stick for better puck handling
Padded hockey gloves with loops to help her grip her stick
A hockey net for scoring goals with the puck
A hockey bag to hold her gear on the way to the rink
Two things immediately spring to mind when I see this:
1) the people crying that AG only made this because of the Stanley Cup -and this is a bad thing? Let the hockey fans have their thing, dammit.
2) Anyone who has an AG Mia and kept her anywhere near cannon should be jumping over furniture to buy this.
This isn't for me, as a lot of the sports things aren't, but I appreciate it being there and I really appreciate it not being pink and purple (those are fine when it's a set AG makes all the time as it gives variety).

AG Bowling Alley // $150
Item#GDX27
Get ready for a friendly game of bowling at this fully functional doll-sized alley. This set features:
A bowling lane that really works—girls can help their dolls bowl a strike! It has a wooden lane, ten motorized bowling pins, and gutters that balls can roll down with adjustable bumpers for practicing. Push a button to start the game, complete with lights, bowling sounds, and score-keeping for up to two players. Pins are knocked back when a ball strikes, and automatically reset at the next turn, so dolls can really bowl a game.
A rental counter with a pretend transaction monitor and reversible screen where dolls can check in to the bowling alley
A card swiper and faux game card
Two tees that glow in the dark for neon bowling
Two pearly bowling balls dolls can really hold with removable straps so they can roll
Two pairs of bowling shoes with glittery accents, laces, and flat soles
A snack menu for hungry bowlers
A bottle of sparkling juice and bottle of lemonade
Two jumbo pretzels, two dip cups of nacho cheese, two boxes of popcorn, two boxes of candy, and two plates for snacking in between frames
I don't bowl. The one time I was taken to an alley to maybe learn, I was distracted by the video arcade section and having to make sure the idiots "playing" pool didn't piss people off. It was a school trip but I digress. Anyway, I don't bowl, but sweet mother of mercy, this looks like fun. Probably not $150 worth of fun, but in a stunning move, AG's version of something is cheaper than the OG version, which is $169.99 and billed as retro. I do like the lights on the OG one, but I prefer AG's pin system as it doesn't involve extra fiddling to get the ball returned. It's a trade-off, I suppose. In any case, it looks like fun but price and size will keep it from me. Though I'm now imagining the cat trying to bowl and it's adorable.

// $28
Item#GDW61
She can show off her love of styling while truly sparkling in this outfit wherever she goes! It includes:
A tee featuring a salon-inspired graphic and rolled cuff sleeves for a playful look
A pull-on skirt that’s covered in striking black sequins
Comfy capri leggings she’ll love to wear
Fashionable pointed pull-on flats with stylish strap details
*shrugs* Eh. I think this is a case of something I like the pieces of more than I do the whole look. On the other hand, I'm also not clamoring to set up a salon display so that might be playing into it. Also, how much of that sequin fabric did they buy?

Color Change Highlights Styling Set // $30
Item#GDW60
When she’s ready to try a new look, this color-change set can help fashion a signature style that’s all her own! Set includes:
Three color change extensions that turn pink when brushed with warm water and change back to purple when brushed with cold water
A dye bowl that can hold water and a dye brush for applying
A cotton twill half apron she can tie on, with three pockets to hold her supplies as she works
An opening and closing pretend flat iron she can hold to style hair with ease
A pair of salon scissors that open and close and a comb for teasing out tangles
Three stylist hair clips that can hold hair back for working in sections
I have a couple of issues. One, I watched the video and the cold water turns it purple, so I'm assuming pink is the default setting. Now maybe in places where it's cold 3/4 of the year, purple will be the default, but I live in Satan's armpit so if these are heat activated, it's gonna be pink for anything longer than the ice-cube being on it. Two, if it actually needs the water to be setting the colors, that's just weird considering you're not supposed to get your doll wet and you can't tell me every kid is going to take the time to wait out the drying process. Three, this is a case where the gimmick isn't worth the price but the little accessories are what they're counting on people ponying up for, I think.
Basically, I'd buy this on sale but not full price.
AG Star Peplum Tee // $10
Item#GDW34
A comfy-casual shirt with a bit of flair! This short-sleeved tee features a pink AG logo and a fun ruffle at the waist.
No. Just look at that second picture. God no. But also, I am now reminded of this outfit I got when I was much younger, but probably old enough to know better. It was purple with black polka dots. It looked pretty similar to this, actually. Only in my case, the peplum was a belt with a ruffle attached. It was... a look.

AG Star Belted Wallet // $10
Item#GDX39
She can help her doll keep track of her necessities on the go with this cute belted wallet. Just like the girl-sized version, it’s bright cherry-red with starry designs. The wallet can also be removed from the belt and used as a wristlet!
AG. Love. Show us how it's used as a belt and a wristlet, don't just tell us. Because right now what you seem to have is a very meh fannypack with dreams of being more. This is a not even on sale kinda thing for me, though in theory I could kinda see where they were going with it. It does lose points for not actually matching the girl size version, though. Different colors entirely.

Reversible Wrap Skirt // $10
Item#GDW36
She’ll love being able to easily change up her doll’s look with this reversible skirt! One side is purple with allover silver stars, and the other side is bright pink with a bold silver Inner Star.
Despite bright effing pink not being one of my favorite colors, I prefer the pink side. I like the idea of the skirt (that seems to be this theme's release) but I wish the other side had been black or a shade of purple I liked more.

Garden Adventure Outfit for Wellie Wishers // $24
Item#GDW45
The WellieWishers love dressing up for sunny adventures in their beautiful garden—there’s always something new to learn! Includes:
A sleeveless dress featuring a sunny garden scene with a playful ruffle at the waist
A sparkling silver headband with an organza ruffle and shining gem center
A glittering silver pair of shoes with bows to match
I really like the print on this and the way it goes all the way around (with Mattel, one never can assume such things) but I believe someone pointed out that this just kinda looks cheap. And it does. Without the free shipping on Wellie stuff, I'm not nearly as tempted as I might've been. Oh, and that stupid tag just hanging out on the side. Wtf, AG.

Garden Adventure Picnic // $25
Item#GDW46
When it’s time to eat, the WellieWishers pack a yummy picnic for a special treat! Includes:
A picnic basket with handle and flower decorations to carry food to the perfect garden spot
A pink felt blanket with a playful scalloped edge and embroidered logo to sit on
Two delicious sandwiches and two fruit smoothies with straws to share
Two fruit kabobs for a sweet treat
Two paper trays with an adorable cloud pattern to hold the sandwiches
You lost me at felt, AG. I can feel my skin crawling just thinking about this so this will be brief: I wish I could see the doll interacting with any of this and the fact that I can't is making me cranky. Otherwise, it's cute enough and seems suited to the WW line but I'm not losing my shit over it like the Jemima asshat.

Garden Adventure Wheels // $60
Item#GDW47
The WellieWishers can’t wait to take a ride through their garden and count all the new sights they see. Vehicle includes working lights, seatbelts, a radio that plays three songs, a horn that beeps, and a tailgate that drops down.
This is cute as hell but I do wish it was slightly larger? Ashlyn there looks too big for it (height wise) and I kinda want it big enough to hold two Wellies. It's a bit funny to me to see AG do these cars when they didn't for years and made such a big to do about not having Julie be seen driving her Bug when that happened and now it's like "kids have Big Wheels so whatcha gonna do, right".
With the Mix and Match, you can hit the previous entry if you want all eleventy-billion photos of certain things.

Bonjour Fashion Tee // $10
Item#GDW63
Say “Bonjour!” to the wonders of Paris in this city-of-lights inspired tee. It features a glittery “Bonjour et Au Revoir” Eiffel Tower graphic and delightful bow sleeves. Part of the Truly Me™ mix-and-match collection. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
I'm still not in love with this shirt, but I actually really like it with the red tights.
Luxe Leggings // $15
This luxurious set of bottoms make a bold statement and are perfect for city adventures! Includes red pull-on twill pants with detail stitching and embroidery, plus back pockets to hold her things, and glittery black three-quarter length leggings. Part of the Truly Me™ mix-and-match collection. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
*snort giggles* "luxurious set of bottoms" is something I need to take off because good lord, it's killing me. Questionable write-up aside, I think this is one of the first leggings sets I've wanted enough to pay full price for right off the bat. Haven't bought them yet but it's in the cards.

City Sequin Sweater // $15
Item#GDW65
Ooh la la! She’ll make a statement wherever she goes in this “tres chic” sparkling statement sweater. It features fuzzy eyelash knit with an embroidered black bow and sewn-in sequins to dazzle and delight.
RIP, Grover. Jokes aside, I like the color of this but I'm not really one for sweaters that are fuzzy like this. It's what, early 2000's fashions and they were icky then, too. No thanks. #53 looks adorable though.

Lovely Leopard Coat // $15
Item#GDW72
This cozy and chic snow-leopard-print faux-fur coat is the perfect addition to her city-inspired wardrobe. It features a lined bodice and a sparkling rhinestone button closure for flair.
Still a no for me and still giving me Stacey McGill vibes with the outfit.
Flower Market Skirt // $10
Item#GDW68
Her doll will fit right in at any city market in this cute and casual woven flower-print skirt.
It's cute. *shrug*
Purr-fect Dots Dress // $15
Item#GDW71
This dress will have her fe-line fine as she explores new places to see, eat, and have fun during her travels! It features an adorable multicolored cat and dot print with bold red buttons and contrasting striped bow detail.
I still want to like this more than I do. I approve of the blue and white (hell, and red) but I'm not thrilled with the striped bits.
Eiffel Tower Blouse // $10
Item#GDW64
Whether she’s visiting a new landmark or dressing up for a special event, this charming blouse is a perfect choice! It features an Eiffel Tower print, a black contrast Peter Pan collar with tie, and fashionable gathered sleeves at the cuff.
It's still on the want list. Now we ponder just how much AG misses Grace since they've done a lot of Grace-ish stuff this year, from Blaire's restaurant to the Paris theme for this mix and match.
Sunny Paris Cardigan // $10
Item#GDW66
Sunny as her personality, this embroidered graphic cardigan is the perfect match for soaking up new sights, traveling to new places, or enjoying time with friends.
I still get Charlie Brown vibes from this and I wish for a pocket on the right side but I get why it's not there. Mustard yellow isn't my fave but it goes with some of the look they're going for so eh. This is one I'd probably pick up on sale or via a rewards cert before it expired.
Noir Jumper // $10
Item#GDW69
Whether she’s off to a picnic in the park or art class, she can instantly add style and charm to any outfit with this black skirted jumper! It’s easy to pull on and features smocking at the back and elegant pearlized front button details.
I wish you were a cami for layering and not a jumper but we'll see if it's possible to rig something whenever I buy it as it's on The List of things to buy.
Parisian Plaid Skirt // $10
Item#GDW70
This classic black and white houndstooth pull-on skirt has a stylish front tie detail.
It's not plaid, it's houndstooth and they say as much in the description. Why call it plaid, AG. Do you want to hurt me? As to the skirt, I need to see it paired differently to decide if it's worth getting. A cute skirt that I can't properly put into an outfit is just a waste of money, you know?
Sunny Sights Flats // $10
Item#GDW82
These stylish pointed flats with double-strap heel detail add a breath of fresh air and splash of color to any outfit!
These get points for being different, even if I'll never be a fan of pointed shoes.
Glittering Lights Platform Shoes // $10
Item#GDW83
Her doll will stand out from the crowd and catch the sparkling city lights in these glittery black platform shoes with golden graphic details on the toes!
It wasn't until I was compiling this list that I realized that there's a heart on one shoe and a bow on the other. I guess I was always too preoccupied with wondering how plastic the shoes were but here we are. I've been pretty meh on AG shoes as of late and while these aren't an immediate OMG, take my money situation, they're definitely cute and on theme for this MnM set. And I would very much like them, thank you.
City of Lights Accessories // $15
Item#GDW81
She can bring Paris with her anywhere with this chic set! Includes:
A black purse with an adorable embroidered cat face and sewn-on ears, plus a vivid red shoulder strap
A golden ring with a stylish bow accent
A pretend golden watch with a charming Eiffel Tower graphic and sleek black strap
This is one of those accessory sets I will snap up as soon as I have funds. It's a kitty cat purse, dammit, and it's black. How can I say no? Exactly, I cannot.
I will say that I do wish you could skip the waiting (and betting against things selling out) for them to bundle the sets at the end of the 'season' for a discount and get that right away. Maybe not as great a discount like the season ender, which is frequently half (or more) off, but maybe knock $5 or $10 off, depending on how big the bundle is? That way if you like most, if not all of the pieces, right away, you buy it before you change your mind and AG gets a bigger chunk of change while still letting people feel like they got a sale... without having to give the store away. You'll still have people who wait for the better bundles, but you're always going to have people play the clearance game. If you made it so it was a create your own bundle (say you had to buy so many pieces or hit a certain price threshold) you'd grab the people who dislike a certain piece enough to avoid a full bundle, too. *shrug*

Cool Expressions Shoes // $10
Item#GDW90
Make a statement with these slide-on shoes—they have embroidered smiley faces and printed graphics for a fun look.
These apparently aren't part of the Mix n Match series but honestly, they fit right in. I do like that they're not just stickers and how you could probably sub these in for the glitter shoes pretty easily for most of the MnM outfits.
Cool Expression Earrings // $10
Item#GDW89
Dolls can make a statement with these mix-and-match earrings inspired by emoticons. Includes a pair of sparkly studs, a pair of “LOL” studs, a pair of shooting-star studs, and a pair of smiley face studs.
BEHOLD, the earrings for the late 20-teens GOTY dolls of the future! My only quibble with these is that you've got some serious primary colour action going on and then you get the shooting stars which don't go with anything else in the set, really. And my delicate sensibilities are offended. :P

Bright Red Sunglasses // $10
Item#GDW91
For dolls who love the sunshine! These sunglasses have cherry red frames and ombre lenses. Includes a pink fleece case to keep from scratching.
Not sure how tinted these glasses are and I'm not really sure I'd consider them cherry red. I'm not in love with them but if they showed up as a $3 pair or something, I'd probably bite. And to the person complaining they didn't really go with anything in the MnM set, it's because they're not part of that. *cough*

Hedgehog House // $30
Item#GDX15
These sweet little hedgehogs are the perfect pets. This set comes with everything needed to care for them:
Two doll-sized hedgehogs with flocked bodies
A clear-walled hedgehog house with room for silly antics or lounging, with attached water dispenser
A food dish with faux peas for mealtime
A faux log for the hedgehog to hide inside
Repositionable stickers with art for personalization and letters for naming her new friends
AG, please have your dolls interact with their accessories and pets, thank you, so I can properly guage size. This isn't too difficult a concept for a doll company, I would think. Sigh. Anyway, this is one of those things I think is adorable but falls a little flat in that the hedgehogs themselves aren't quite as cute as I'd expected them to be. I like the artwork on the stickers and the idea of the house but I'm going to need to see them with a doll, dang it. Cackling at all the people saying the sleeping hedgehog looks dead when not in the hammock.

Husky Puppy // $28
Item#GDX03
Every Truly Me™ doll loves a playful pet—and this Husky puppy is just waiting to find the perfect home. She has soft fur and a body that can be posed in different positions. A magnet in her mouth lets her hold a favorite toy.
Husky puppy, don't look so sad. Someone will throw your bone for you.

I'm lazy and not a leopard print kinda gal, so here are links to the leopard pet bed and leopard leash set. I'll be damned if the cat on the pet bed isn't killing me with the deathglare of cute, though. And now we know why the Husky looked so sad before. It's okay, girl.
As for the two new dolls, 81 and 82 I still don't think either of these was worth potentially sacrificing 26 or 62. I do think 82 is the cuter doll by far, though 81 does apparently have the new pale skin tone. But both also have hair that's really too long unless you pigtail it and then I'm not sure if the doll looks cuter or my love of pigtails makes them seem cuter. But yeah, 82 is definitely meant to be not!Josefina.
Sorry if you saw this in one of the 42 previous attempts but I borked something and it took forever to figure out what was causing the issue.

// $28
