This is the way we crack our, crack our jaw, this is the way we crack our jaw so early in the morning...

Okay. Cheated death today. Yesterday. Whatever. See, if I'd had my way, we would have left sometime before noon. But no. The driver wanted sleep, the boy slept too, and I was left to wander around and do not a lot. Naturally they both woke up at the same time and wanted to go do things... at the same time. And naturally the boy won. So, I finished reading the third [and only book in the series the library claims to own] book in The Worst Witch series, giggled at the cuteness, cried at the unfairness of the lamest vacation ever, and then decided that I'd splurge and order pizza for lunch. So. Did. And pizza was good. And the boy came home about five minutes before the pizza arrived. Which meant when they said it'd be a little less than an hour, they meant it'll be a little more than an hour. Which is unusual. Usually they mean, "twenty minutes, ma'am!"

Then Mom decided she'd take me out to Summerville afterall. So, we drive down 17 and holychristonacracker, there's this impressive lightning show going on down the highway. Usually I see the lightning once or twice and then somehow miss the fun bolts. Nope. The entire time we drove down, I saw 'em. Freaked. Me. Out. All in the same section, seconds away from each other. Creeeeepy. Luckily, I foolishly thought to myself, we're going away from that!

Yes. Yes we did. Right into a worse storm. About the time we hit Dorchester or so, the sky had turned so dark in the distance that I was ready to offer a compromise. Hit North Charleston and we'll just forget this ever happened... But I don't think I said it aloud. Ooops. Then we got swallowed up by the black hole. Mom had to check and see if she'd put her sunnies on by mistake, it was so dark, and I checked the time to make sure we hadn't just lost an hour somehow. She didn't, we hadn't, and ohgoodlord, the sky fell down.

You know the sort of rain that comes down in sheets? Where you can see it, not just where it lands, but as it's falling? Imagine that coming from every direction. Thunder. Lightning. And even the horrid drivers in SC knowing enough to drive slowly. Flooding too. So, lots of, "please don't let us die, please don't let us die..."s and then when we finally turn on the right road? The damn thing is almost completely under water. So Mom's muttering muchly, I'm wondering if it's just my imagination or if the floor of the car feels different than it did a second ago.., but we make it. And I go in and there, as if Heaven herself was shining a pretty little light down from above, are at least three books I've never read, two of which I've never seen in person before... and numerous others to fill in the holes of my Sweet Valley collection. Still, the book I came in for wasn't there. Damn it!

But by the time I finished poking around and dragged myself up to the front to buy the stuff [I cut myself off at $20 as that's all the cash I thought I had, forgetting the $6 I shoved in the other pocket, damn it] and yes, they did take my card, the rain had stopped.

Wheeeee.

In conclusion, the best part of the vacation was that I got paid for three days of it, and two of them were just normal days off. The worst part is that with the exception of the bookstore, nothing I planned happened.

...Stay good. Stay good. Stay good, damn it.

[it's not working.]

New Sweet Valley books! Yay!
