I remember precious little about kindergarten. I remember even less about my brother's stints, although I'm fairly certain my mother was more of a room mother [or whatever they were/are called] to his class than she was to mine. As in, was one at all. I remember making a giant gingerbread man that my parents could never agree on who I made it for, I remember lemons and Mandy being awfully mean for a four-going-on-five-year-old, I remember, very vaguely, tying my shoes, getting in trouble and trying not to cry when my name was put on the board [HORROR!], and chattering on about squirrels. I also remember when they came to take the smart kids away for part of the day [and testing] and not going/getting to go, and being confused as to why some kids were disappearing for periods of time.

I don't remember learning to read. I don't remember any big parties or anytime when my parents would come to the class, although there probably was one near Christmas, and I don't remember 'graduating.' Apparently my teacher that year was going through a spectacular divorce, so it's entirely possible that there wasn't a big "woo! you all... get to go to first grade. Woo, get lost" celebration.

Today was Widget's graduation, if you will, and I was the rebel who did not go to the office to get a visitors pass, although I allotted plenty of time to be sent back to do just that. I got to watch the set-up of their little celebration and see Widget's most favorite person, and was huggled by the Widge. but mostly I marveled at how much they'd changed my elementary school. When I was there, there was an actual playground. It was HUGE. So big that to get to the PE field, you had to cross a small wooden bridge, and it was awesome. The monkey bars where kids would go to get married is gone. The swings are mostly hidden. There are trailers everywhere. It's enough to break your heart.

Also, I knew his class was in a trailer, and I think I even knew it was pretty far away from the entrance where all the kids are dropped off, but it would be pretty damn difficult to get further away without trying.
