Oh, Hanna

Today is going to be a very, very long day. Due to Hanna, there's no school for Widget. If I'm really, really lucky, Hanna will come close enough to force the bridges to close and stay closed so that I can tell work that dude, I ain't swimming there... in a tropical storm/hurricane, depending on whether she powers up before skirting up the coast or potentially hitting us. So, if you love me, and even if you think we'd be better off as friends, hope for bridges to be shut down BEFORE 10pm, and stay that way until much, much later. Kay? I'll make you yummy things. Or buy them, depending on my culinary skills.

I finished the newest Laura Childs Charleston mystery. She still seems to believe that one can run around the Battery in the wee morning hours, or that going around downtown at night, alone, is a good idea. I'm not sure if I'm more upset that she didn't screw up more, or what. Though she also believes that anything outdoors during August would not have more than half the attendees melting. And being eaten by mosquitoes. And despite the tendency to use words I really, truly do not believe anyone Theo's or Haley's age would use [Drayton is given a free pass]... I can say I mostly liked it. I figured out who our culprit was well before I accidentally saw the answer yesterday, but the explination still didn't seem all that good. I expect more in the fallout of an alligator attack, damn it. I truly do.

This means I must find another book to read. Probably not so difficult considering the mini stack from BAM as well as my library needs.

Anyway, if I disappear this weekend, it's because the storm might kill power. It might also do nothing.

All I need is for the winds to cause the bridges to close.

When there is a storm heading right towards you, you do not want to hear about the one that's three or four days behind. You want to know about the tone hours away. So for this, you fail, Weather Channel. FAIL. Obviously that one is far more interesting than ours for other people, but one thing at a time. So please stop with your fear mongering ways.

Funny thing. I spent all yesterday bitching that while, somewhere in my brain, I was sure there was something that would explain this strange push everyone said would happen, slamming Hanna into NC for landfall, it irked me to no end that no one would show me what it was.

Guess what doesn't exist? That's right. There's no push. Every time they adjust the expected landfall, it dances closer and closer to me. Hell, as it is, the fun side is going to bitch slap me if the current projections are correct. And what will they not do? Close the goddamned bridges. Because it would be too dangerous for the workers to do so.

No cookies for anyone at this point. They get points for telling me this, but points off because I still don't know when this fun is going to happen. Only that the winds should kick up at 2pm.

Bother. This is one of the serious downsides to working overnights.

Must go forage for something. Anything.
