It's taken me awhile, but I've figured out what one of my problems with Playthings (an American Girl board) is. For all the "be nice!"/"don't tell me to be nice, I have a right to express my opinion!"/"but you don't have to be an a-hole about it!"/"I do when you say 2+2=!5" arguments that crop up (and they do. Oh god, do they.) I've found that I tend to tune out halfway through, even if I read the entire thread. Part of that is because even when I agree with one 'side' or another, I get annoyed with how they're presenting things. Which is fine. I then don't join in their little reindeer games and no one needs to know this is why.
Then I realized today that it's actually a little more than that. I do not like people who use their smarts to make other people feel stupid or bad about themselves. I really do not like people who do this repeatedly, get called on it, and then act as if it's news to them every single time. Both sides are guilty of this.
Plus I had a total flashback to first grade when the kid in front of me, alphabetically speaking, would stomp on my toe whenever we had to stand in line. That was the year of a million substitute teachers so even if one fixed it, the next one would come along and it would begin anew. Poor little toe bled a lot that year.
If you think to yourself, WTF does this have to do with anything, it's the often used "If you step on someone's toes and they say ouch, you apologize, dammit!" example.
Do you know how hard and often you have to stomp on someone's feet til they bleed when you're six?
Annnnnnyway. The point is, if you're smart and you know it, then you really don't have to show off for the sake of showing off. But you lot know that because you're awesome.
