Apr. 10th, 2012 10:47 amYesterday I went to the beach for the first time in entirely too long. Huzzah for my feet not being as icky as before (is magic, the sand is) and while I probably should have slathered on more sunscreen, I'm not miserable or burned. We people watched and sat on our (well, her) blanket and I wished I had sunglasses and water that wasn't seltzer but hey. You do what you can with what you have and you enjoy your discussions about zombies, books, movies, and chapter titles for books that should really be written.
This was followed up with pizza and GCB. The only downside, aside from certain topics that cropped up, was that Widget called 10 times. Literally. Le sigh.
This was after Widget and I walked up to the Book Exchange and bought $40 worth of books (plus one puzzle and a small lighthouse trinket) which was quite a savings since the books were half off. Sadly there were no BSC books of any kind and only one SV book in the entire place (A Stranger In The House) and not many Pike or Stine books. But I didn't really expect many of those as there hasn't been much of those lately anywhere. I also took some pictures of the shop cat whom I will miss terribly.
The store owner is less than thrilled about going out of business (sometimes people aren't, so I wasn't sure) and made the only sarcastic comment I'd heard from her in quite awhile when someone decided they wouldn't buy their books afterall, even though the person they were with offered to pay. "A prime example of why we're closing." For a second I thought she meant me, but then I realized she was talking about the customers who left. I can't blame her for being unhappy. The store has existed for longer than I've been alive (yes.) and it pains me to think of a time without it. It doesn't help that none of the other bookstores are nearby.
But mostly I'll miss the cat. I know, my priorities are off. But I'd go in to buy a book or two just to see the cat and to make sure she still had a home.
Wish me luck. I'm about to tinker with things. Crushing realization: In addition to my trivia file for the snark being eated, I think it also ate all the cover images I'd had saved. Since a good chunk of those were from sources no longer available, I think I'm just going to scream for awhile. (I'm more annoyed that I was positive I'd backed those up somewhere but thus far cannot find them.)
