Holiday fog
Dec. 22nd, 2015 08:22 pmThis Christmas is weird. It doesn't feel at all like Christmas and hasn't at all this season. Usually there's a little spark but this year, nothing. I guess part of it might be that if you work retail too long, the seasons blur and by the time Christmas actually comes along, you're already having to deal with Valentine's Day stuff, so some part of you might have moved on already.
But usually that's burnout, which means you might've had the spirit at some point. Not this year, though. It's just...meh. And I'm not the only person to feel that way. Almost everyone, including those people who LOVE CHRISTMAS and would marry it if you could, in fact, marry a holiday, have commented.
I'm not down or depressed or even sad, which puts me miles ahead of some people (my cousins who lost their father this year for one) but this just feels so... meh.
It's been too hot to pretend we'll get anything other than our usual rain (it started today, btw) for the holiday, though at least that feels normal. The rain, not the heat... though it's almost never cold enough to pretend we'll get a white Christmas.
Sigh. Still, the lights are pretty and I do have some wrapping to do this evening, so maybe that'll help.
If not, there's always nog in the fridge and Mums finally made my cookies, so I can nom those while reading The Evil Twin. Nothing says Christmas like plotting to kill a Wakefield twin.
