Feb. 9th, 2016 02:34 pmRandom story time! If you are of a certain age, you might recall that book-fairs had those books where you'd get a bunch of celebrity addresses you could write to and get an autograph or something. Sometimes they'd give you a mini filmography (very important in a pre-IMDB world) and you always got glossy pictures.
Chiblet me bought a bright pink one because I was tired of not knowing who anyone was and also I liked mail and figured hey, here's a list of people practically required to send you mail back. I might have also bought it for someone in particular, but who knows? Possibly a figure skater?
Anyway, I didn't really write to anyone after all that. Instead, I flipped through and decided, after reading yet another BSC/SVH book or Cosmo article (because third grade is totally Cosmo time) about how everyone had a crush of some sort on a celeb at one point or another and dang it, it was time I got with the program.
Yeaaaaaah. So I flipped through it, kind of randomly, trying to figure out who the lucky celebrity would be. I wish I could tell you there was some rhyme or reason or, better still, a contest in my head between people, but no. Instead, it came to me in a flash of inspiration.
To this day, I couldn't tell you anything beyond my decision. "Christian Slater. Right then, let's rent all his movies."
Yup. I couldn't tell you if I'd seen him in something and liked it, or I just liked his smirk, or what, but the die was cast and that was that.
I mean, I could have done worse. I don't think I ever told anyone this very deliberate plan, though, and I think of it every so often when Heathers is brought up since it was one of the first movies of his I watched and enjoyed.

Oh, I did write in and get an 'autograph' from Cary Elwes eventually, if it was killing you to not know. ;)
