shopping is hard

I had a whole long ranty post ready to go but by the time I was done with it I didn't feel like sharing with the world. Or, you know, the four people who read this other than me. :P (You didn't miss much.) Anyone else do that?

My vacation has started and I can't tell if I'm coming down with something or if my face is just really, really warm. Weirdness. It doesn't help that the dog and Mom woke me up this morning at 5am and I'd only fallen asleep around midnight after getting about three hours of sleep yesterday morning before going out to be ~sociable~ for Ari's birthday party. Which is an emotional kick in the teeth on top of all the usual social anxiety, so really maybe I just need a nap.


None of which is really the point. Nope, the point is that thanks to the ever lovely luxken27, I have an AG coupon burning a hole in my pocket and I have to decide what to use it on. Normally at this time of year this would be a no brainer. You go with the holiday outfits (fancy and pajamas), the GOTY stuff that you're not willing to risk selling out before a proper sale kicks in, and then you fill in from there.

Thing is, I'm pretty meh on this year's holiday offerings. I kind of like them as NYE outfits (the gold one) or general party dresses (the fuschia one) but not traditional holiday dresses. I haven't mentally cataloged my army versus the holiday dress situation, but I could probably get along without adding a new one this year, even with the addition of Lea earlier this year. Also, not a fan of the store exclusive as it looks too dolly bridal for me.

HOWEVER, I do like Maryellen's and Melody's... sorta. I hear Melody's outfit is made of a material that looks really pretty but feels really weird and that's one of those things that I can sometimes overlook since I'm not going to be touching it that often or it's a dealbreaker because it's just not quite right and it vexes me. Or feels super gross that the five minutes a year I do touch it are too much. Maryellen's got that weird bow on the dress that's sideways and I didn't notice it really until someone said something and now it's ALL I see. Plus they aren't likely to go anywhere so...

I'm going to try and duck into Kohl's today or tomorrow and see if mine has the Lea stuff and if so I'll snag the Celebration dress if it's there and avoid the shipping charge and anything else in her collection I'm fine with missing or waiting on a sale later on. Nothing pressing enough that I'm throwing my money at the screen.


So what I'm looking at mostly is the Mix and Match line. Rumor has it that these have an extra short shelf life (traditionally speaking, MyAG outfits last about two years with the exception of the holiday offerings) and I like most of them and don't want to miss out on them. So do I buy 'em all (or, y'know, most of them) and say to heck with tradition?

Also, still deciding on the penguin pajamas. And that's not even taking into consideration other historical possibilities. What to do, what to do.


So I ask you lot because you're not going to either go with the ever helpful, "Why are you asking us? Clearly you have issues if you need strangers to tell you to buy something!" or "buy it ALL because what's money anyway?!" and might put some thought into it.
