impy: Claudia and Stacey from The Baby-Sitters Club at the beach (just beachy)
I believe it's now time for a state of the birthday (mini) vacation roundup. Let's begin, shall we?

Because work is (was?) understaffed when it was time to request off, I decided not to bother asking for the weekend (Fri/Sat) off because lately any time I do, I get the, "are you sure, absolutely sure you need those off because we can't get anyone to work" thing and I'd rather say, yeah, I can't do this weekend come October. Or else I meant to ask for it off later (sometimes the computers at work are super glitchy) and just didn't remember. Who knows. Point is, I was off Sun-Thursday, 8th-12th. Sunday was meant to be my do nothing day and as I mentioned during my one post last week, that didn't happen.

Sunday was like the one day of Spring we didn't get back when it was actually spring. Cool and sunny and breezy and basically delightful for everything but swimming. But swimming I went because dammit, I was going to spend my vacation swimming. (Spoiler: I didn't.) On the plus side, I had to keep moving and couldn't just float and do nothing but it was also probably too chilly to really be in the pool so I got out a little early. If I remember correctly, I had the geese do their parade that day so I followed them home. Stayed up a little too late but crashed for a couple of hours before going to the movies with D&A and seeing The Incredibles 2. Came home and it was still very nice but I had a headache that was starting to roar and things get a little fuzzy on the timeline. I know I didn't stay up too late but had dinner and woke up a few times overnight to see if my brain still hurt. It always did.

Monday I woke up with a headache that bloomed and made thinking difficult, hence the delay in breakfast and the whole post about getting sick. I went back to sleep, woke up and ate a sammich and thought I was better and went out to At Home with Cass and had fun despite being sick. If I could re-do any of my days off, this is probably the one I would choose although you'll see there's another contender. I didn't keep anything down all day aside from Strawberry Fanta, but since I basically transitioned to that as soon as I got home, it worked out. I believe I slept the rest of the afternoon after my post. It was not a great day but it wasn't awful and the parts that were good made up for the bad.

Tuesday- my birthday! - was kind of odd. I was worried I still had whatever made Monday not fun, so I cautiously ate something small and went back to bed after deciding that swimming would probably be tempting fate. Woke up a little later than I would've liked but felt fine so Mom and I went out to do the stops I didn't get a chance to do the day before because of my tummy troubles.

We stopped at Michaels where fall was starting to show up. Not really anything Halloween, but fall makes me just as happy. Hit TJ Maxx which I haven't been to since it moved and it had some cute baby stuff but it was stupidly crowded and no Halloween or fall yet. Went to Joann's where they were mostly fall but they had some awesome Halloween fabric and I fell in love with a white fabric with little ghosts that were really subtle but very cute. Hit Marshall's (which I'd somehow never realized was right next to Joann's?) which also had cute baby stuff but no Halloween/fall. To be clear, I bought nothing at all so far, though Mom did buy me Butter Rum lifesavers at Michaels.

Stopped at Sonic to redeem my birthday shake coupon and had lunch. Came home, checked various FB birthday wishes and chilled out. Btw, wore my birthday dress (the one I specifically bought for my birthday week) and it was fantastic. I don't know if I looked like crap or not, but I felt pretty and did not melt and yeah, it's a win. Went for a walk before dinner in said dress and it was quite nice. Dinner was steak so obviously yummers. Had spice cake for my birthday cake and all in all, it was a very quiet but nice birthday. Oh, Mom and Widget did have a screaming match before my walk but otherwise? Probably the nicest birthday I've had in years. I wouldn't have turned down getting presents but y'know, it was a good day.

Wednesday I went swimming and stewed a bit over the people who did forget my birthday but vented my frustrations in the water. My brother borrowed the car and kept it all day and I was annoyed by this because he wasn't supposed to do that and maybe I'd wanted to do something on my vacation, dammit. I think this was the day I started on my pile of magazines I need to read and recycle.

Also when I started watching movies on the Hallmark app on the TV and can we take a moment to just talk about how I don't understand Hallmark at all? They make all these movies and have a fair number of original shows and the shows can be found (or could a few months ago) on Netflix and occasionally their app thing. But the movies? Yeah, no. Half the movies available on the app, that you have to pay for btw, aren't Hallmark movies. The other half are divided into really old Hallmark Hall of Fame movies (some I've heard of, some I haven't) and the questionable original movies they churn out to fill their theme months. I wound up watching one I mostly saw a couple of years ago on TV and then the Shannen Doherty one with the giant pumpkin and it was better than I expected. But otherwise pickings have been beyond slim. However if you're really into Luke Perry's Hallmark movies, there are a shit ton of those. o_O But seriously, I could understand this if they regularly rotated their movies or the app was free. But it's not and when it debuted they made a Big Fucking Deal about it. Put the movies people want to see on it. Throw everything up there and let people just binge watch the movies happily. Wait a week after a movie premieres and have it up on the app that people are paying for and consider it a success. You'll still get all the people who think ponying up for the app is a waste who will watch it on TV and the app will snag those who can't catch it otherwise. Why is this such a difficult concept?

Anyway, popped in and out of the house all afternoon because the afternoon/evening was lovely as the sun set. Also, I was pissed when my brother called to 'ask' if he could keep the car overnight because he had a job interview at 11am the next morning. I couldn't very well demand he return the car because Mom would have to drive him home (probably) and definitely pick him up in the morning and that's just not fair to her. But also, MY VACATION, you asshat. It's not my fault you ignored all fucking common sense and drove your car, which you freely admitted to any and everyone was not long for this world, to North Carolina and it died on the way back. Seriously! Don't let me get started on the other rants that are connected. My annoyance level was high is what I'm saying.

Thursday my brother still had the car but he'd promised to get it back early, like 1pm at the latest. Ha. Widget got home late from his job and lied to his sorta roommate (he moved a friend in back in January, did I mention that?) to get him out and because the universe doesn't like liars, after friend kind of stormed out (mad at all of us due to the lie I'm guessing) the doorbell rang and I went to answer. Friend and two cops are there and I'm like wtf, kid. Yeah, no. Widget apparently made some comment to his gf who moved to Florida (when did that happen?) and she took it to mean he was suicidal and since he meant it as "I can't do this anymore - we should break up", he blocked her. So she couldn't get ahold of him... and so she called the cops. Who, as far as I can tell, must've sat on this because all this happened at 1:30 and she called sometime after 10... so I dunno. So that took hours of convincing the cops that no, he wasn't suicidal and trying not to visibly face palm when Widget would say something contradictory and then the EMS dude was a bit of a dick and it didn't help that I'd heard K (widget's friend) tell the cops what he believed was the truth (so, y'know, Widget's lie) which I think was that Mom and I were making Widget move out next month so that meant K had to go too. So yeah, they're gonna think we're awful and all because Widget didn't have the guts to just say hey, this isn't working anymore. My brother calls in the middle of this and he drops off the car and rides out the end and honestly, this took about an hour but it felt like longer and it ended with my brother leaving after the EMS guys did but before the last of the cops did and it's like... asshole, this is your kid and you were there when we got the whole "NOW KEEP AN EYE ON HIM BECAUSE IT'S ON YOU IF SOMETHING HAPPENS" speech. So yeah, the plan to hit the movies after the car was returned died for two reasons. Luckily Widget wasn't suicidal (I don't think I'd seen him more chipper all freakin' summer, honestly) and a good chunk of the movie thing was there simply wasn't one Mom wanted to pay to see but still. Vexing.

Took a short walk that evening as a storm threatened to roll in. Watched as none of the idiots at the pool made a move to leave even as it became obvious it was, in fact, thunder and not I dunno, people moving their trashcans in for the night in droves. Lightning flashed as I got home but if we got anything more than sprinkles, I was unaware.

Went swimming Friday morning when it looked overcast and grey and was the longest time I spent in the pool all summer. I think I was in the water a full hour and a half and normally I top out at 45 minutes. It was a nice end to my vacation.

Work, alas, murdered my ankle to the point that it still hurts this morning. Only two days and now I'm worried what this week will do to it since those two days were on my 'easy' week. o_O

Oh, and Friday we got a new dryer. I've never even heard of the brand. The joys of renting. I'm off to go have my first actual experience with it. Wish me luck.
