State of the polish collection
Jan. 5th, 2019 05:04 amI managed to go through a good chunk of my nail polishes this evening and while I know that compared to some I don't have all that many, for me... it's a lot. Probably because I know damn well I have a bag of them upstairs, some in my stocking, and some stashed in my grandmother's desk. And I still couldn't fit all the ones down here in two plastic containers. In news that will shock no one who has ever seen my nails, I have a lot of purples in varying shades, followed by blues and greens, and glitters of all sorts. Fair amount of metallics and holos but I'm surprised by how many oranges I have considering I almost never wear orange. I have one yellow that I'm going to assume was either a gift or in a set because if I almost never wear orange, I absolutely never wear yellow. Also surprised by how few actual black polishes I have considering I wear black year round and always have. Either I have a stash somewhere else or the last time I had to ruthlessly gut my collection they got chucked for some reason.
Speaking of chucking polishes, I only chucked two. One was the flakie topper end of a Revlon Moon Candy set (those, btw, did not age well at all no matter how you stored them) and one was a Revlon topcoat that I combined with another bottle of the same. I set aside a small group to go through in the next couple of weeks and put the box of polishes I'm most likely to want for, say, Valentine's on top. Might have to continue my whole "no reapplying!" rule this year considering I believe every third polish made me stop and sigh wistfully. I will say that I think I love almost all of the polishes I own, at least in theory. There are a couple I know I only keep around because they're pretty in the bottle and a few I keep meaning to try again to see if I like them or not, and I really should do that before Zoya does another trade in promo.
Speaking of promos, I just checked my spam and Zoya's got a get four polishes free* code floating around. $15 in shipping or hit the $50 mark and get free shipping. I wonder if that's actually having to spend $50 or throw another $10 on top of the $40 in freebies and you're good. It is actually having to spend the $50 which means instead of me foolishly spending $10 right away, I shall now have to ponder if there are four polishes I want for $15. Which isn't a bad deal but that's how the brain is wired.
