Nov. 4th, 2021 09:23 amUgh, first night back and my ankle is already screaming. >_< Probably not helped by going out to mail the rent check and seeing two dogs hanging out where the ducklings hide... with nary a person in sight. There are a couple of dudes around here who do not give a single solitary fuck about leash laws so I thought maybe I'd wander over and see if the owner appeared. Nope. The lighter dog runs around the pond chasing the adult ducks and the darker one is running back and forth between the pond and the 'ling hideout, with the occasional scamper to the road. I try and scope out the hiding place but that seems to attract the dogs so I walk away and debate whether the darker one looks friendly enough to try and read his tag. But while he did give me the "go on, pet me" look, that does not always translate into "yes, read my necklace" and also both dogs had been swimming in the pond by this point.
I remembered that I'd told Mom to come after me (not realizing there were dogs running amuck) if I didn't come back in 5 minutes so I'm hobbling home while still eying the doggos. Mom comes out before I make it home and we discuss the dogs for a few minutes before the cold sends her inside. I check Nextdoor and FB and find a message about the dogs, so I call and eventually their owner calls back. I give terrible directions and then head outside to keep an eye on the puppers, leaving Mom to answer the second call back with better directions.
Doggos rescued and Mom and I go looking for ducklings, who were luckily at one of the other ponds today. Not sure if they all were but I'm just glad at least some are safe.
Shame it wasn't this cold on my vacation. So nice and chilly. I want to crack my balcony door open and snooze but I won't because I don't want Ozma to escape.
