Jan. 11th, 2023 08:56 amDamn, I'd forgotten how much I loathe the Walmart by work for anything but a toy or Worcestershire sauce run. And the toy run ain't great, it's just marginally better than the one by the house because you just hike across the front of the store instead of across and back. Sadly I struck out on EVERYTHING but BSC Mystery #4 and the milk. I did find MH in store, finally, and they had some RH dolls I wanted but not at prices I wanted to pay. If I didn't have my eye on Kavi or the new Disney dolls, maybe. But I do so I'm skipping them for now.
Paid off my EMS bill. Woo. I paid a gazillion bills this morning but I need to wait for them to clear my account before I do anything fun. My holiday pay was nice and the gross was what I'd figured, but taxes and insurance and stuff took a bigger bite than I'd fully anticipated. Boo. Still.
Started watching Paper Girls on Amazon and I have three episodes left. I'm cursing each and every asshole who had a hand in this being cancelled, dammit. It's a goddamn delight and scratches a similar itch to Stranger Things but...not.
In other news, I borrowed Jessi's Secret Language : graphic novel from the library and read it over the weekend. It was pretty cute, though I do think they missed an opportunity by not having a list of signs or even how to finger spell the alphabet included. I did lose my shit when Jessi's smarting over being called teacher's pet and her mom points out that they chose Madame Noelle for a reason and did Jessi really think she'd risk the performance by casting someone who wasn't ready just because they were her favorite? HOWLED. Because that's a good chunk of the next SVT graphic novel. :P Shots fired indeed, Mama Ramsey.
I looked at the sneak peek for Mary Anne's Bad Luck Mystery and uh... wow. The art is... very flat. It reminds me of when I'd watch Sailor Moon and you'd have those episodes where the art looked just different enough that you realized that yup, actual people drew this stuff and some were better than others. I nearly said the filler episodes but SM filler episodes were frequently very fun and I'm not sure it's fair to say they had crappier art. Still. Not a big fan of the art so far for that one. :/ I feel bad complaining about art since my artistic ability is wildly inconsistent AT BEST, but I also don't get paid for it sooooooooo...
