Book rant

I need to rant about the latest book I finished and since I try not to spoil EVERYTHING in my GR reviews, I'm gonna have to do so here.

The fact that SO many people gave this glowing reviews baffles me.

Hobby update

So the hunt for a cross stitch kit to begin with has yet to come up with anything (I wasn't sure if one of the kits I grabbed would be a mix of embroidery and cross stitch options) but in the meantime I'm working on my embroidery. I got two kits, and one has examples of different stitches and you basically use it as practice. I have found out a few things.
1) I fucking hate the coral stitch. It's probably fine if you don't have your work on a hoop or you like stabbing yourself or you're just better at these things but for a beginner? It's hell. It's not even one of those stitches I look at and think, "well, I don't like doing you but I can see why it's worth the effort." like I don't get why the couching stitch really is a thing, but I look at it and I get why you'd do it that way.
2) I need to use a different hoop for my next project because this one gave me a splinter. o_O
3) I am not up to the task of doing the backstitching for the lettering and having it look neat. Not in the itty bitty letters they want it done in, anyway. Not yet.
4) How the fuck does one do a zig zag stitch? I tried following the directions on the sheet but they look NOTHING like any of the videos I found. o_O


Otherwise, I actually enjoyed most of round 1. Mums complimented me on the back being pretty dang tidy (clearly this was before the letter fuckery) and I remembered enough about things to know this was definitely an A+ compliment. I do wish the stitches I needed for the pattern I want to try first had been all on the same sampler but alas, they were not. So I need to do those before I jump in to the official first pattern. Ooh. Ahh.

I'm trying to decide whether I want to find one of Cass's true crime docs she's recommended over the past year (or just flat out asking for one now) or continuing with the Golden Girls as my background sounds. Day 1 was Derry Girls but I gave up and just watched because it was the final three episodes and yeah, I wanted to pay attention to them.
