Weird

There is something kind of off about the way I clean. Not the normal cleaning, I know that's fueled by rage and annoyance and when I'm good and pissed the fuck off I do my best work. I'm talking about how the only time I willingly clean without swearing the entire time is when it's time to prep for Halloween, which will then pay off for Christmas decorating.

I admit I'm running behind this year because of Idalia and the heatwave, but I think I actually made up for it in how thorough a job I managed thus far. I cleared off my grandmother's desk and got the table as clean as it gets before October, and then I hit the bar and got it sectioned off so that when I'm ready to set up the village (of the damned?), it won't be a horrible task. Probably even less horrible once I move on to the hallway surfaces. I took out some of the Halloween stuff I keep inside and set it up on the desk, but I'm not sure if the cat(s) will behave. Adora's already hopped up and knocked a few things off, but they were luckily not decorations. Just the uh, house phone. Oops.

Ordered a new carving set because it was reviewed well and on stupid sale, so I need to see if it looks like it might live up to the hype. I also figured out which craft I will be attempting to do this year, but I've gotta wait for the supplies to come in. Self, next weekend find the stuff you already own for it.

I wish I knew what to do about the cat across the parking lot. Sometime last year I saw a beautifully fluffy black cat who would sing obnoxiously (she says with love) when it came home from its travels for the evening/morning/however you looked at it. I didn't see it a lot because, well, black cats blend in very well at 7am once the sun starts to sleep in, but I do remember the fluff.

Earlier in the summer, I saw a very skinny black cat with a fluffy tail in the parking lot and wondered if it was the same cat. This morning (we're talking 5am), I saw it again. I offered the pspsps of love and it ran over and let me pet it for 2.4 seconds before running away. I noticed it eying me, so I offered my hand and it came running back. I'm 99% sure this is the same fluff from before, but it's painfully skinny. Like I wondered if maybe the cat had been lost and just come back after being gone for months kind of skinny. :/ I felt so bad for it that I came home, grabbed a paper bowl and some of Adora's food, and then went back out to feed it a little. Once I found it again, it scarfed up a fair amount of food and while it did so, it let me check the collar and nametag. I took a picture of it and realized during all this that the collar is too nice and new for the owner not to know their cat is dangerously skinny. Their rabies tag was issued last year and from my vet. Part of me wants to call the number on the tag and just ask, "hey, did you lose your cat?" and part of me knows that collar is too clean to be for a lost cat. What to do, what to do.
