Nov. 13th, 2023 08:48 amLook at me, being proactive and getting my eye appointment done before December. Ooh. Ahh. But since I'd actually meant to do this back in July, I can't really be too proud of myself. :P I'm wildly overdue for one as I think the last time I went was either January 2022 or December 2021? In my very small defense, I do like to usually wait about a year between visits... and unfortunately for me, I started going at the end of the year for some dumbass reason. Note to self: do this at some other point in the year. I think it was because the first year I went, I used my holiday pay from Thanksgiving to pay and have been stuck in a loop ever since. BUT! You might remember that last December I caught some mystery ick that took me out for damn near a week, and probably should've done so for longer but I didn't have enough time and it definitely caused some pinkeye thing. And then in February I caught COVID so uh, yeah.
Anyway. Ugh. Tis open enrollment and that ends this Friday, so I was trying to do my sign up this morning, or at least have a better look at my options before I go and blind myself later, and of course the site is down. I was going to look last night but my allergies had my head pounding and while it's not a ton better this morning, it was a hell of a lot better til the yard assholes starting blowing all the leaves around right outside the door. Y'all know they're considering banning those because they fuck with everyone's hearing, right, assholes? (I realize I come across as a bit unhinged here BUT I've seen them move in giant groups, leaf blowing the same sections over and over and over and still miss entire sections because 13 dudes are doing the same area and no one's doing the area two spots over. They also kill every plant they come into contact with. These guys suck.)
So I guess I'll either have to try again in an hour, not likely, or this evening.
Oh, I don't think I bitched about our election fuckery, did I? So. Mayor was up for grabs last week, and I went and did my civic duty to vote a new fucker in...only for the race to wind up split just enough that we have to have a runoff. Going in, I had two candidates I did not want to win. I didn't super care on the rest and told myself I'd be fine with any of them. Naturally the run-off is between the two I did not want to win, and alas, one of them is our current mayor. I don't necessarily think he's a bad dude but he's not exactly good at his job. Home hasn't felt like home for awhile and while I'm not one of those people who think all the blame falls at his feet, I do think that he's proven that his vision of the city and a good chunk of the residents of the city's vision of the city do not align. But he's also not fucking "recommended" by actual hate groups SO I have to once more tamp down my bile and vote for someone I'd rather not vote for because if my option is the devil I know to just be incompetent and the devil endorsed by actual evil... Ugh. Politics. MAYBE he'll be scared enough by the fact that he came in second on election day and it's only due to the other candidates splitting the other third of votes that he hasn't lost-lost yet and do some reflecting on how he could maybe adapt to suit the needs of his city as it rapidly spirals?
Probably not, but a girl can dream.
Note to self: time to buy new lightbulbs. These aren't dead but they aren't doing their job properly anymore. A theme. Heh.
Hrmm. Oh, I was bad and took advantage of two early Black Friday sales. One was marketed as such and the other I think was actually better than their usual BF sale.
Holo Taco dropped their new holiday collection and started their BF sale on Saturday. One day we'll go into my thoughts on how HT's drops work now a days, but since Reddit had a big explosion over those topics this weekend, I'll wait until my face doesn't hurt. Anyway, I fell in love with the collector's box but was good and didn't go for it because of the six polishes included, I'm not sold on two and a half of them. The half is a topper, and had they released the promo vid earlier, I might've been swayed on it as I liked it better once I saw it in motion versus just swatches. But there's a mauve I don't think will look good on me and a muddy blue that either doesn't photograph well (it happens; HT has an entire line that doesn't photograph well but is stunning in person) or looks like ass to me. Won't know til I watch swatch videos and maybe not even then. Anyway. So... instead I took advantage of the sale, a little since the new polishes aren't LE or seasonal and much as I love the box, I don't know anyone who would potentially want the two/three polishes I don't want. I'm filling in the gaps of my collection but found there's a reason I don't own a lot of these already. I have my eye on a few more as backups, depending on paycheck needs and if the stock holds for now. Not saying aloud (or typing) to avoid jinxing.
Which I should've thought about when I finally saw the Zoya 10 for $25 sale. I got a little confused as to whether the color of the month was included (it wasn't) but since I just learned this month that their color of the month isn't them releasing a new color into their collection each month but is instead a color only available for a month... I decided to go ahead with the order. I'm also not sure if the sale stock was depleted by the time I saw the sale (it was late Sunday evening) or there were just a bunch of colors I either owned already or don't want to own. I haven't really kept up with Zoya since their price hike but I did find a few colors I really like and a few more I'm pretty sure I'll love, and then a couple I'm willing to try at $2.50 because why not? Of the 11 polishes I grabbed, the color breakdown is as follows:
teal/blue/green: 4
Pink: 4
Purple: 2
Gold: 1
The only reason purple is so low is because I own most of the stuff that was part of the sale. :P
( Badly done collage if you're more visual. )
Apparently the sale is still good today. I could've sworn it ended last night but maybe they extended it or maybe I just can't read. :P I looked up their BF sale last year and it was the polishes being $3-something so this is slightly better if you wanted ten of the colors included in the sale.
Time to go figure out what to wear and wrestle with my hair.
