Feb. 7th, 2024 10:54 amHuh. I do not feel like fighting even more with my internet and doing a proper post yet, so I'll just point out that the new Disney AG dolls came out this morning, as predicted, and I have thoughts.
Get yer Disney Princesses here!
You've got Tiana, Cinderella, and Ariel as predicted. If you like your molds spelled out, Tiana is Claudie, Cinderella is Josefina, and Ariel is fucking Nanea. The MG mold was RIGHT THERE, AG. RIGHT. THERE. I know they used it for Punzie but they used Josefina for Belle and the world didn't collapse when it was reused for Cinderella or when Belle and the FAO doll were out at the same time. Gimme pointy chinned Ariel or give me your head, you cowards.
As it is, I'm not sure how I feel about the dolls as each has something I like and something I don't.
Tiana's probably the closest to perfect, but I'm never gonna be a fan of the Tenney eyes. They look weird in person and this comes from someone who likes their AG stuff weird. I'm also not sold on the light lips, but that could be better in reality versus pictures. I do like how they managed to make her different from Claudie, as AG can struggle with that sometimes. I'm eh on her actual princess outfit.
While we're on Tiana, I like her waitress outfit/coat, though I wish we could see the damn dress without the coat. Her Evening Star outfit is also fine. It's pretty but not calling my name... yet.
Cindy was my biggest WTF that softened to "aw, she's cute." I'm not sure how those bangs will play out over time, or her curls in general actually. But the dress is solid and I'm no longer as "wait, wut" over the doll. I love her work dress and the fact that it includes the mice! I've always secretly HATED her original gown (kid me was not a fan and this is one thing I haven't changed on) and it being sleeveless when AG arm sockets aren't my fave isn't helping. But it is more charming than it has any right to be and holy fuck, do I need that sewing book!
Ariel, however, is my biggest WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. I also cannot believe someone on the board is bemoaning not having a fiery redhead like Maryellen. Maryellen's hair is fucking strawberry blond and barely counts as red, shut the fuck up. I get being upset about cartoon red but dude, the hair color is spot on for Ariel. Yes, it looks fake as hell but like... it's Ariel red. I myself cannot figure out if their going with the swoopy bangs is brilliant or WTF. I like the eye color and honestly, the WTF of the hair swoop and the going all in on Ariel red is appealing very much to my Weird AG self. I wish the dress were a skirt and top because I'd love the purple bit as an actual top. Sigh. I don't know how I feel about them whitewashing the Nanea mold and in general it just doesn't look like Ariel, face wise. Sigh.
I fucking love her Day Dress and Flounder. Like I really, really want to order the TM I like and this outfit. I... might just do that, actually. I don't love her Castle dress and Sebastian will give me nightmares which means I may wind up owning it at some point, because not on Ariel, I might like it more. It's a case of it being a dress I've never been as big a fan as Disney wants me to be, I think. *shrug* I appreciate the detail.
