Jul. 13th, 2024 04:20 pmToday was the Holo Taco 5th Anniversary launch and I nearly missed the stream. I'd originally planned on only watching the start (whoops, that was the part I def missed) to see if she had anything to say about the boneheaded decision to ship thermals in summer and also see how the new polishes looked and whether or not the first two they shared looked better than I originally thought.
*breaks out actual popcorn* Short answer: not really. Long answer: not that I'm aware of but she did answer the question someone asked about how well these would travel in the heat.
And I physically face palmed and immediately sent Cass a message that in the next two weeks the polish community is gonna be highly entertaining unless HT managed to figure out a better formula than most brands concerning thermals. Because before she answered that question, she reminded people that big launches mean there's a longer shipping window, this time more of 8-10 days before it's shipped. So, y'know, these things will be shipped when it's even HOTTER. *slow clap* I guess it's possible the heatwaves will break and not reform before then... but realistically, her Canadian is showing. Even if she did try to say that it's not like Canada doesn't get hot (I tease but I know) and that if she took the polishes outside right then, they'd all transition to warm. Good to know. But it felt very much like when the Southern US states try and say they understand Winter and places like Canada rightfully snort or just outright laugh. But the absolute moment I knew this launch had not taken actual heatwaves into account was when she said something along the lines of "and hopefully shipping couriers will have climate control."
Ma'am. MA'AM. UPS had a whole STRIKE about that issue and how they absolutely do NOT have AC in their trucks. The US mail trucks also don't. Like... are there unicorns in Canada?
Sigh. To fully answer the question about shipping, she did say that you should wait overnight and let the polishes come to room temp and I... well, yes. You should. I'd actually give them 24 hours if you're in a really hot places or you know it had to travel through a hot place (ditto for cold places in the winter) but you do you, boo. But for all her talk about how the thermal pigments wear out after transitioning back and forth and back and forth, she also ALMOST got it when she pointed out that the stickers would stop transitioning if you put them on a mug that was going to get and stay hot. Sugar. Honey. Sweetheart. Now, apply that same logic to polishes left in a hot truck or mailbox. I... sigh.
All that being said, I absolutely 100% want to be wrong and have these all survive shipping and be just fine. I want thermal pigments to be a bit more stable. The website does mention there's a 6-12 month shelf life (fucking TOLD YOU, REDDIT) and she did stress not to hoard these and to use them before they die.
As to the question about how I feel about the colors... that one's also mixed. On the one hand, I do love a couple of the shades a LOT. So much that of the three I really like, I'm pretty sure I just bought one (well, April) that is nearly identical at least in terms of the color change, and I remember being meh on that. So not sure if that means I should assume this pink will also lean weirdly salmon or hope for better luck with HT. Pretty sure I have a similar one for the pink/nearly colorless pink, but I'd have to check... and I know I don't have a teal/purple flakie bomb. I did find a couple of color combos she did with toppers that actually made me love my least favorite color (Rage Bait) and I'm still on the fence on Funny Feeling. I'll have to go back through the combo section to see how I feel about that one.
I suspect this is going to be heavily influenced by how good Target's Halloween preview is. If Halloween is great and spendy, I'll def wait. If not... we'll see.
Oh, and if you haven't bought stamps yet, go and do that NOW before they price jump tomorrow. You're welcome.
G'ah, I want a fun drink now.
