that was a mistake

Ugh, I made a mistake going into work last night. Had I stuck to my original plan of basically just staying up front and doing nothing but ringing people and running photo, I think I would've been okay-ish, but there was a weird as fuck list left and neither of us could figure out what we were supposed to actually do, so A made a plan and I worked on my part and about halfway through that I realized oh, no, I have overestimated how decent I felt. Not quite chills, but I kept running hotter than I should've when on the aisle with the cooler and freezer doors opening quite often, y'know?

Oddly enough, the gum helped a whole lot. Until it didn't and I started coughing my freakin' head off again. To be fair, I think that was about half an hour after I should've taken my next dose of meds so that's probably on me.


I refuse to comment further on the ick til I'm fairly certain its fully run its course because I don't want to jinx things.

I guess we'll go with the continuation of my holiday movie marathon, ick edition:


Hot Frosty is pretty much exactly what you're thinking it is and the only real surprise is how well it does work. My biggest problems were worrying that the male lead was seriously dehydrated and that Lacey Chabert has reached that point in her holiday movie career where I can't see her as anything but "Lacey Chabert starring in another holiday movie!" It's hard to describe but if you get it, you get it. I don't mean I see her acting, just I'm unable to not see her instead of the character, which is something that happens when actors do either too many of the same kind of role (Tom Cruise as an action star) or just wind up doing too many movies/projects at once. I'd probably go 4/5 stars because it eas enjoyable but not really one I see myself rewatching unless someone else wanted to watch it with me.



Movie two definitely suffered for being watched while I was under the weather but also because it was missing something. Father Christmas Is Back got chosen because my absolute FAVORITE subgenre of holiday movie is the dysfunctional family movie, particularly when anchored by sisters. Can be drama, can be comedy, doesn't matter. Gimme. Also, Elizabeth Hurley is usually a delight. And she is, for the like ten minutes they use her. But my favorite bit about the family movie is the family interacting with each other and that feels very... thin here. Pretty much everyone here is an asshole, with the men being less so, which is rarely a good thing in a movie with so many women in the cast. Yikes on bikes.
But my biggest issue is that Father Christmas there left his family 27 years ago and his daughters haven't seen or really heard from him since. Not until the youngest, Vicky, goes to the US to find him and spends a week or two with him and his much younger girlfriend. She invites him to the family Christmas and he takes her up on the offer, crashing the holiday. The girls never knew why he left and didn't know why he didn't try to keep in touch, and it's not til damn near the end of the movie you find out that his ex (their mother, obviously) was hooking up with his brother, and in doing so fathered Vicky.

And he explains it all away that it was their mother's decision to not tell them that he was the one sending the money for their upkeep, but like... dude. You claim to have left before you did irreparable harm. Look at the messes in front of you; your absence fucked them all up in various ways, but you show back up 27 years later and it's supposed to be okay just because mom was hooking up with your brother? That's a fine reason to leave but a terrible reason to stay away.

I hate shitty fathers being redeemed for doing the absolute least.
2.5/5, though ymmv depending on how much you like British movies/any of the actors/etc. Still not the worst.
