Sam's new holiday dress: doesn't fit Sam.

I believe I owe a review of sorts on Samantha's new holiday set, yes? Well, let's get down to business.
First things first, I don't believe this thing is worth $64 and I'm not really sure I could buy it as the dress being BF's going rate of $34 if only because that would mark the teaset as worth $30. If you swapped the two prices though, I could see it though it still vexes me greatly that there's only one cup. Dammit, AG, if Samantha is supposed to be my friend we need to have tea together.
Rant aside, let's begin.
Sadly, this dress does not fit my PM Samantha. It wiggled onto her, struggling mightily the whole way, but would not velcro in the back and I didn't want to force it since the lace feels really delicate and I didn't want to bork it up. So Sam will continue to use Nellie's while Nellie goes a little more modern.
As such, #50 will be showcasing this set. Huzzah!
On the dress side of the set, you get a dress, black tights, black 'boots' (that are best seen in Nellie's wearing of them), and a white lace bow which is attached to one of those pony-o things.

BAM. The cute, it burns, no? As a whole, this set is lovely. The tights, since they're black, help the whole thing from looking a little too short (something Nellie had a problem with before) since they blend into the boots. Optical illusions, man. The white bow sets things off in a sea of dark hair and the dress is loverly.

I can understand why other people are meh, but I'm a sucker for red/black/white due to years of devouring Sleepover Friends novels (dammit, Stephanie Green!) so I never really had a chance.

Around back we've got a velvety bow that is pre-tied so all you need to do is work some velcro magic. Also, please note that the trim goes all the way around to the back, both on top and on the bottom. Woo!

Without flash so as not to burn out your retinas.

While we're here, let's talk about the sleeves, shall we? The lace design is pretty with little dots. Unusual for an AG piece, the sleeves don't have any velcro, so you have to coax them over their hands. This means you'll have a harder time just slapping this on one doll after the next and might be a bit tricky for younger kids who aren't used to it, however it also means you don't need to worry about the velcro crapping out in a few years. Yays.

Bow.
This freakin' thing took FOREVER to get into #50's hair at anything that even resembled cute because it kept slipping down her hair. I may never get #47 because this layered crap is just a pain in my duff and this is their semi-textured stuff, so what's the stick straight stuff like? Geez. Anyway, bow is fluffy and soft and I'm fairly certain I had a crapton of them attached to clips back in the 80's.

Neckline, if that's your thing. It kind of bugged me on Nellie but nothing is registering for me on #50 beyond, "eeeeee! Cute!" sooooo I can't tell you what goes through my mind, I guess.

Walk and talk, lovey. Walk and talk. She needs a name, help a girl out, k?

Anyway, if this were just the dress and it were priced at $34, I'd tell you to buy it if you love it or hold off for a code (of which there are a couple!) and then snatch it up because I think it's nifty.
However, it's part of a set and that means your decision is also going to be based on what you think of the tea set, yes?
Don't worry. We've got you covered.

Whoa. Where did that box come from?

huff, huff. This thing is surprisingly heavy since I'm, y'know, a doll.

No one warned me this box is frickin' huge when compared to other boxes. Look at it. Just look! Next to the doll and another box, one of their more common sizes, I might add. Yeah, it's big.

Let's open this sucker up!
Layer one is actually cardboard and then underneath that you'll find the outfit.

Then you find this.

Hello, "cloth" as described on the outside of the box.

Served to you upon a silver platter...

Skipped the second layer of cardboard to skip straight to "Do Not Eat".

Flash is a fickle mistress, truly.

Thing is, this is a nice little set. I just wish it was for two and not just for one. I suspect that if AG does offer replacement parts (and since this is pretty darn fragile, I'd hope they would) that a lot of people are going to make their set for two...

I'm sorry, 'Sma, did you want some tea?

Now which is my best side?

I know they're both good....
Overall, if you think about it as a tea set for one price and a dress for another, it's not awful, but I still wouldn't buy this full price without a code to off-set shipping or something. I think the dress will happily be folded into my holiday dress collection and the tea set will probably sit there, untouched for awhile. :P
