impyUgh. I caught a cold or something and naturally it kicked in on my second day off and really jacked up the crazy yesterday, when I was supposed to go back to work. And I was going to, especially since I called out last Wednesday. I felt like crap all day but I was actually getting maybe ten minutes of sleep out of every hour I was lying down (the hacking, the shifting to get comfy, the nose blowing) and then I got up a little after ten for something and I was so pleased that I still had an hour to go before getting ready.
Yeah, I started coughing and that turned ugly really fast. Like puking ugly. Why couldn't this have happened hours before when my immediate supervisor wasn't at work and I could have called in and gotten someone else? The kicker is that I'd started to call out twice before but decided no, I would go in and give it a shot because the store manager is very twitchy if you call out, despite making us watch a billion and one training videos every year that say "sick? Stay your ass at home."
But throwing up is where I draw the line. I don't like doing that at home and I avoid doing it in public whenever possible. Blergh. Then I was okay for about hour and thought "well, maybe it was just a... oh, god!" Good times.
On the plus side, I feel sort of better now, though anytime I start to cough, I get a little worried. I just hope no one says anything tonight/tomorrow/next week. But if they do, I guess I can always point out that if I had come in, I'd have puked on people anytime I coughed.
The one plus side to all this, aside from getting a full hour of sleep sometime overnight, is that my AG mysteries came yesterday. So while waiting for the cough to kill me, I read Josefina's last night and Maryellen's this morning. I really liked Josefina's though I guessed 90% of the mystery. Maryellen's wasn't bad but it didn't much for me. If I feel a bit better, I might work on Kaya's next. I originally started to read hers first but then the ick happened.
