impyI knew I was forgetting something yesterday but I couldn't remember what it was. Yeah, it was the pictures of the Wellie Wishers.

*muse* I've been thinking about these for the last few days and I still can't put into words how I feel about them. Hell, I can't even figure out what I think of them in my own head. On the one hand, rumor has it that we'll be seeing these in stores, not just AG stores. So that's actually kind of exciting. And not completely without precedent considering the Angelina Ballerina stuff was sold in bookstores.
In the big group picture with all five, I'm less struck by the "hey, look, pretty diverse!" and more terrified by how quickly these fell into uncanny valley for me. It's just... there's a creepy factor and I don't know how to unsee it. Normally I'm all over any given redhead doll, but this time she's pretty much my biggest do not want, do not pass go, do not look into her eyes, ohlord, why did you make eye contact?! She's a little less terrifying for me in the picture with just her and the blond, but still. They should be cute but something is just missing. And that might simply be AG's legendary failtography at work. I like the outfits on the blond and the latina dolls, but if I were buying one of these for whatever reason, I'd probably go for the asian or black dolls. I wonder how much they'll be running.
