Oh, AC, why have you forsaken me

Hrmm. Pictures might have to wait til tomorrow. Our AC conked out yesterday (it still works, just... not well?) and I'm trying to get to bed before it gets stupidly hot. If I'm asleep before then, I'll likely sleep through the hottest part of the day. If I'm not, I'll never sleep again. :P This means I'm trying to keep as many lights off as is possible to keep the temp inside down. Also, I forgot to buy the batteries for the camera even though I remembered that I needed to get... something.

But while we wait for the Benadryl to kick in, let's discuss some toys, shall we? We shall!

First up, CYO AG dolls are starting to roll in. The first one I saw was... a classic mold. *facepalm* Not a classic mold with a pixie cut or any of the really different wigs because that I could get. Nope. This is basically #39 with a slightly different wig. I... why would you pay $200+ bucks for a doll that a) you already own and b) you could get said lookalike for much, much cheaper? Seriously I don't understand. o_O If you plunked this doll down and I didn't see the bottom of her foot with the little One of a Kind tattoo they do for these dolls and said, "Look, isn't #39 gorgeous?" I wouldn't be able to say "wait, that's not 39!"

Not even the pretty dark blue eyes! WHY. Universe, gift me with this person's money so I can make more interesting life choices, dammit.

Luckily, the next one I saw was more interesting. She chose a light Sonali mold with the black wavy hair and gray eyes. This doll is ridiculously pretty. I linked to her flickr account (I'd have linked the first but she uploaded directly to the board, I think) so you can peruse if that's your thing. She's also got pictures of the box the customs come in, the outfit, the accessories... it's a pretty thorough report, really.

I'm tempted to keep a folder of the various CYOs I see in the world for science.

I will say that people are being very strange about the CYO line. They keep acting like the dollmaker is going to be 100% accurate as to what the actual doll will look like. Um, no. That thing is rigged to make all the doll molds fit in the same general area which means that somehow the classic mold's mouth got super squished and it did something funky to the Jess mold as well. I'm thinking maybe it was optimized for the Addy mold or maybe that mold just happens to resist the scaling down moreso than the others. *shrug*

Anyway, they've also been losing their minds over the Jess molds on display at the various stores and... I think I've seen exactly one that I would agree is something to be wary of. But not a single person has commented my concern (that the eyes seem to be looking down and it's just disconcerting) so I'm not sure if they're all seeing something I don't or what.

This IG has a few display pictures with "I'm worried" kinds of comments. If you scroll to not!Kanani Jess, you'll see the one I'm wary of. But that's one doll out of however many. However, it's possible that there's something to the worry about the Jess molds since all the CYO Jess molds were on immediate backorder.


Moving along, Nanea's officially coming out Monday and I am ready, ready, ready. Since we're not at the official release yet, we're still lacking full promo pictures for a good chunk of her collection but since we need PR, there are articles with pictures coming out to help us along.

Amber Leaves Nightlight
  I actually really like this one. I don't like the fact that I would bet a pretty penny that the white part is the ceramic that stains like crazy. And in case you didn't know, the nightlights always wind up with wax spillover. But it's pretty.



Maple Leaf is recycled from last year, I believe. I wish we had less brown/bronze and more red. Nice but I don't tend to do a lot of simply fall decorating. I go hard for Halloween and then eventually switch to Christmas when enough people complain. :p



Rustic Pumpkin
This is clearly a 'rustic' take on their stunning Lumina from a couple of years ago. Seriously, that one is gorgeous. I might actually take it out and use it for company this week. The only reason I haven't is because the one in my bathroom is a lamp one and I like the light output. If I didn't have Lumina or know about it, I still don't think this would do it for me, but rustic isn't usually my scene so... *shrug*


Give Thanks
I didn't realize til now this was a wrap. That's actually kind of cute. I don't think I'll buy because, again, Halloween runs to Christmas for me, but it's nice.

Halloween



Top is Mr. Bones all lit up and bottom is Mr. Bones as he would normally look? Not glow-in-the-dark lit up, he looks pretty meh. All glowy, he looks rather interesting. However, it's weird to have a thing you plug in require a lightsource to make it glow in the dark. It's just weird, ok? I feel there was another way to pull this off. Eh. I won't be buying because I still like the skull I got a few years ago.


Buddy clothing in JOL/Pumpkin form. This is cute, honestly. I don't think any of the buddies I have could wear it though, since I think they're all on the smaller side? I say this like I have a bunch. I have the squirrel and... I want to say another one. I guess I could ask Mums if her penguin is dying for a costume. :p


Haunt Wrap
Eh. I have a core or two and I have a wrap or four and one of them is a Halloween one and I don't use it simply because I have so many Halloween ones as it is. But I don't mind the scene on this and it's one I'd be tempted by simply due to the price.


Spooky House
So... this is a thing. I want to like it but it feels so blah. So meh. I don't mind a simple Halloween but... no, wait. I do. Halloween is not about restraint, ok? Give me something to admire, dammit.



Salem
Meh? I wanted something to wow me but this is simply... a hat. I mean, it's nice enough but it's a hat. With a spider. For $45 and it's an element warmer and those I tend to think should be cheaper. Mehhhhh.


Superstition
Y'know, as a nightlight and not shown on the base (or if the base happened to be black) I think I'd be more interested. As it is, it fails to really excite me. Which is strange because you'd think black cat and Halloween would be a slam dunk for me.



Jack here is the warmer of the month and he's the only one I'm actually debating buying. If I do, I'll likely buy a few other things to go with him but as it is I'm still not 100% sold. He's different and I appreciate that.


Overall I'm underwhelmed. I won't say Scentsy has always knocked their Halloween offerings out of the park, but some years it's clear they try harder than others. I will say that when looking at them all together, they're pretty enough. Eh.

I might get the swimsuit, but I'm disappointed we're not seeing the long purple dress from the second book cover. I want that! Maybe it will show up, too? But it's not a huge deal, because I can't buy her now anyway. Old rare toy > brand new toy on release day. Considering I won't get a full paycheck until the 1st, I'm thinking I'll just throw her on my credit card after the payment clears that week.

Have there been any without the permasurprised face? I'm slowly getting used to it, but I swear she did not look as surprised in the promos. I would so love for Kohls to get her. Sigh. Our Tenney section's almost wiped out. C'mon, Kohls.

I saw someone take a picture of the window display at one of the stores and while 98% of the display is covered, you can see the purple dress at the bottom of the display. So it's coming!

Not sure on the surprised face. I want to say there's been at least one but that might've just been someone who put her in a flower crown that covered her eyebrows. Colette's is pretty, though. I'm hoping I don't get one that looks bad Josefina levels of surprised.

Huh. I thought Amazon was their BF alternate, though I never would've pegged Kohls as the place for Tenney and Logan so surprises all around.

Ah, that one is a little better. That's the one AG person I've actually met. Heh. We hung out once when I lived in NYC and she was there when I bought my Julie. Although I regret that I did not get to meet Inky!

If she goes anywhere, it'll probably be Amazon, which I'm also okay with because free fast shipping. I'd just love it if Kohls got to branch out and get a BF. Or if they get more stock in, I hope it's Z and not more Tenney. Or maybe they won't get anything until Christmas and get the new GOTY? Who knows?

And yays for purple dress. I will try to afford it and Nanea next month. I want her dog, too, but I can grab that anytime. Depending on his cost, he might be cheaper on ebay. I've almost bought him a couple times already. He'll be my first AG animal. Well, actually, second. Bennett was in my childhood collection, the original version so rock hard you could knock a kid out with him.

I'd bet more than a few dogs will wind up on ebay (or have? and that sounds weird) because a lot of people didn't seem interested in that part of the bundle. Shame, people. Shame. That dog is cute.

She was nice. It just got a bit awkward because I felt it stretched past my "meet a brand new person" limits and I ran out of things to suggest to do. Although not quite as bad as when I met someone else that I knew a bit better while she was visiting NYC and she proceeded to not tell me a single thing she wanted to do, so I had to make everything up myself. Like NYC has it all. Give me some hint! Once my inevitable suggestion of museums is shot down, I need more direction.

Ha! I'm horrible on both ends. I never know what to suggest to do when people come here beyond "hit the beach, marvel at the murky water, and head downtown and try not to get mugged/shot" and I never know what to ask to do if I go elsewhere. :p Though to be fair, when suggested things I'll likely go along because why not.

I always have a plan if I'm going somewhere, but I mean, it was NYC. Most people come there with at least a mental list of things to see because almost everyone knows at least a few things about it ahead of time. When I got there, I was like "Met, AMNH, FAO Schwarz." Aside from exploring the surroundings of my new dorm and finding food, a grocery store, a drug store and "oh, hey, a Target awesome!" I hit those three places in the first week. Then I started to branch out. Although I didn't visit AGPNY until a couple months later, I think it was.
