CB: McKinley
Jan. 31st, 2018 07:51 amSometime last fall, September maybe?,
venivididolli gave a head's up that Charlie Bears were finally coming to the US QVC. I was off and watched a fair amount of the show online and then they got around to McKinley and I waffled and wibbled and debated for a fair amount of time. CBs aren't cheap and it's the biggest reason I tend to look at her posts about them with half an eye because I am not made of money. Which is why I could say no during the broadcast... right up until I couldn't. I think I got in juuuuuust under the wire on my order (and it took some literal running around to get my password sorted and find my credit card) before he sold out.
And so I waited and worried that
a) I would regret dropping the cash because if I'm honest, I love me some cheap teddy bears and also I've mostly stopped buying them because I feel bad when they don't get enough snuggles.
b) I would wind up with a new expensive hobby
Plus, the cat is notorious for finding ways to get into things you would never think possible and the next thing you know there's a weird stain (and not an ew, cat, why kind just way but a how did you get into the purple shampoo and why did you hop onto my work shirt to wipe it off sort of way) ... basically I wondered if I'd either set my money ablaze or set my future money ablaze. I worry, it's what I do, though I was reasonably sure that if it turned out I didn't like him, ebay wouldn't be too difficult to deal with the situation.
It's been a few months and I'm still pretty smitten. McKinley lives on my hope chest with Teddy and Edward but I figured maybe he'd like some photos just because.

Mine is lucky #891 for those who wonder about such LE things.
He's pretty soft, though I'm glad he's not as soft all over as his paws are because if he was, I'd be up to my eyeballs in wanting more. His fur kind of reminds me of Angel's, which was soft enough but not as soft as it looked like it would be. But his paws, oh, his paws. So soft. Much paw holding. I will walk by on my way to my dresser and just reach out and hold his paw for a second because they're that soft.
Another thing is that Lori and the show both mentioned the fact that the bears are weighted and I was curious as to how that would feel. It feels a lot like having a cat or something sitting on you and it's oddly comforting. It is definitely a selling point although it sounds a bit... weird when I put it like that? Sorry, it's hard to concentrate on this while Mum is puttering about and talking to me. :P
Each time I pick him up, there's a bit of a surprise to his weight and I get why people snuggle with them beyond just regular bear snuggling.
He's jointed so he's capable of moving his arms and legs and can stand if he's assisted by say, my bedframe. I don't think he enjoyed standing though. :P

McKinley remains an only CB for now, though I do hope they'll be back on QVC so I can peruse some more and possibly find him a friend.

Date: 2018-01-31 08:34 pm (UTC)We're supposed to be getting Elizabeth, who's in my wanted bear post, and I think she'll be March. I wouldn't be surprised if the new Year Bear, the pretty one I adore, is there, too. Chatterbox is also a big favorite, though I find him a bit overrated, so possibly him. If not now, there's another show in July. I'm hoping they bring Kimiko to go along with my Kiri and Macaroon. (All of them are in my wanted post.)
McKinley has paws that are unlike any other CB. I grab his feet a lot, too. A lot of mine have nice paws, but nothing like this. His fur is medium soft. I have ones that are rougher and ones that are softer. The softest use a special fur...I want to say it's called tyber...and they're shorter-haired. My Wisteria has tyber on her head and torso and Trudy has tyber arms and legs. Only a few have ever been fully tyber. If you're ever in the market for a really cuddly, slightly larger (I think she's AG height), older bear, look for Befuddle. Her fur is thick, super soft and she's not as heavily stuffed so she squishes a bit more like a regular plush, while still having the CB joints and weight. She's my go-to for when I'm not feeling that great.
