AG new release, part 2
Jan. 1st, 2019 04:22 pmAs they've done for the last few years, AG did a small after Christmas release in store that they put online today. It's traditionally pretty small and this year's is no exception. There's the spring dresses for Bitty and the Truly Me line and a small but expensive Camp AG theme, as well as a random Wellie Wisher outfit.
Simply Spring Outfit // $28

Item#GBL88
It’s time to celebrate spring! American Girl dolls will look fresh as a daisy in this outfit, featuring:
A dress with a floral print and a bright blue ribbon at the waist
A barrette with three sparkly rhinestones for her hair
A pretty beaded bracelet for a pop of color
Platform sandals with crisscross straps
I should like this more than I do. I like the shoes, I don't hate anything but I don't love anything either. Well, actually, I hate showing the arm sockets and that's what's keeping me away from this. Sale? Sure. Not sale? Probably not. Their spring outfits tend to be hit or miss with me and I'm okay with this. I do wish I liked it more because blue.
Bitty Baby's makes her look like a li'l ol' southern granny.

S'more Fun PJs // $24
Item#GBL87
We want s’more sleepovers! American Girl dolls are sure to have sweet-treat dreams after their nighttime campfire in these pajamas, featuring:
A tunic-length pajama top with a s’mores graphic that has glow-in-the-dark marshmallows!
Legging-style pajama pants with an allover campfire s’mores print
Faux-suede moccasin slippers to keep her toes toasty
Not sure if I'm getting pickier in my old age or gimmicks don't work quite as well on me as they used to, but I'm fence sitting on this. I love the idea of the glow in the dark marshmallow. I'm less in love with the whole thing. Not sure why though.

Summer Fun Swimsuit Set // $28
Item#GBL83
Dive in! She’ll be ready to make a splash with this swim set, including:
A ruffled one-shoulder swim top and high-waisted bottom
A sheer swim cover-up for when she’s hanging out poolside
Turquoise sunglasses to shade her eyes in in the sunshine
Matching turquoise flip-flops for going to and from the pool
Still don't tend to buy AG swimsuits and this probably isn't gonna change that trend. Cute sunnies, though.

Poolside Swim Trunks Set // $28
Item#GBL84
He’ll stay cool at the pool in this swim outfit, including:
A tank with contrast trim and a “Ride” screenprint
Striped swim trunks with pockets and a tie at the waistband
Matching slip-on sandal slides for going to the pool
A bottle of faux sunscreen to stay safe in the sun
Sooooooooo... the boys get sunscreen but no sunnies and the girls get sunnies but no sunscreen? I see what you're doing, AG. Normally there'd be an accessory set but this time you're like "nope, gonna divvie it up and let things fall where they do because boy, oh boy, do we have plans for your money."
Swimming Pool // $100

Item#GBL92
It’s time for a pool party! American Girl dolls can invite friends to celebrate summer with everything here:
A pretend doll-sized pool with handrails for climbing in and out
A folding poolside chair with three adjustable positions for relaxing
An inflatable unicorn floatie for fun
A towel with a tropical pattern for drying off
A double-sided game stand made to play poolside tic-tac-toe and ring toss
Five “O” and five “X” tic-tac-toe game pieces
Five diving rings in assorted colors for tossing or playing in the pool
A strawberry ice cream cone the doll can really hold
A bottle of sparkling juice for refreshing
A mini American Girl magazine to read
A canvas tote with a pineapple graphic to hold her doll’s pool gear
I want that unicorn float. I WANT IT. However, I do not want it $100 worth, so you'll just find me sitting over here just in awe of them pricing this thing so high.

Western Chic Outfit // $28

Item#GBL52
Trot the trails! American Girl dolls will be ready to ride in this outfit, which includes:
A tank top with empire waist and embroidered tiered ruffles
Blue jeggings perfect for horseback riding
A bright paisley-print scarf
Fringed ankle boots for days at the ranch
So I know nothing about horseback riding, but I still feel like jeggings would not be ideal for riding. Anyone know one way or the other? This is a cute enough outfit but ditch the scarf and the fringe on the boots and I would never get "western" from this. And yet I still get Saige vibes from this. That might be the redhead modeling it and the scarf though...

Hugs and Well Wishes Outfit for Wellies // $24
Item#GBY48
When the WellieWishers aren’t feeling their best, this comfy outfit helps them rest. Includes:
A bright-green hoodie with a sunny flower at the top of the pouch pocket
Soft, comfy pink joggers for relaxing
Pink shoes with flowers on the toes
A headband with felt flowers they made in the playhouse
Can honestly say that if not feeling their best includes an upset stomach, the colors on this probably not the best idea. But at least it's not all pink and orange, I suppose. It's cute enough for what it is and it looks like it'd be a comfy lounging around outfit if not for the shoes. But the shoes don't look as cheap plastic as they normally do, so progress. I'll just assume the wellies are like me when I was little. Barefoot 95% of the time and the rest I went for ~fancy~ shoes whenever possible.

Western Saddle Set // $35
Item#GBL54
Giddy-up! Her American Girl horse will be ready to trot the trails with this set:
A two-toned faux-leather saddle featuring metal rivets and decorative ribbons, made to seat an 18" American Girl doll
A Western-print fleece blanket to keep her horse comfortable
A bunch of carrots for a horse treat
*shrug* Not my thing and not my area. You do you? I'm having Barbie horse flashbacks but I loved them so this isn't a criticism.

Camp AG Essentials // $25

Item#GBL99
American Girl dolls will be happy campers with this set!
A tie-dyed camp tee with a knot at the front
Two adjustable friendship bracelets in rainbow colors
A handy compass for staying on the right path
A pretend flashlight that dolls can really hold
Three camp-themed postcards that fit inside a frame and a pretend pencil to write home
A frame that she can decorate with reusable camp stickers
A fun scavenger hunt with a map of the camp on one side and list of things to do on the other
If not for the shirt, I'd say this is something I bet Target could and probably has duped better. Their clothes do still tend to be a bit crap, but I'm not sure this is $25 worth of whimsy to me. I don't hate it, though. I just don't think I have the matching shorts outfit.

Camp AG Outdoor Games // $50

Item#GBM00
Summer camp is sure to be all fun and games with this set, featuring:
A dart-shooting bow that dolls can really hold
Five plastic darts with sticky tips to shoot at (and stick to!) the archery target
Two bright flag belts with flags that can be pulled off and stuck back on, plus a football for a game of flag football
Two bean bag toss boards and six colorful bean bags
A golden trophy for the camp games champion!
Figures. I want that archery set but don't care one way or the other about the rest, so it's bundled in a set that's priced more than I'd pay. Gimme a sale and I might cave. Otherwise, I suppose no archery for me.
Camp AG Campfire Set // $75

Item#GBL93
When the sun sets at summer camp, American Girl dolls can relax with this set:
A pretend fire pit that lights up and plays crackling campfire sounds and three camp songs. Use the cord to attach your own device to play your own music!
A bench that seats two dolls by the fire pit
Two roasting sticks the dolls can hold over the “fire” to cook hot dogs
Two hot dogs on buns to serve on two speckled camp plates
A pink tie-dye-print blanket to keep warm on chilly nights
A yellow flying disc with a camp graphic for dolls to toss
An acoustic guitar with a striped guitar strap so dolls can “play” songs
Removable stickers for decorating the guitar
A mini music booklet filled with music and song lyrics for a campfire sing-along!
Personal music player not included.
Want a laugh? Look up discussions on this set, particularly the campfire itself. If this was AG's first attempt at a fire, you might excuse the poor execution. But it's not. At least the day these hit the stores (Dec 26th), you could still get an infinitely better version on clearance. That's not a great look, AG. I like the idea of this but the price is too much and I'm not in love with how it all came together. I do hope to see other people with it or making their own versions though.

Camp AG Hangout // $185

Item#GBL94
Going to summer camp is a great way try new things and gain confidence. American Girl dolls can have fun—and make new friends—at this camp cabin! It has four curtains that hang from the bright blue roof and can be tied back or closed, bright berry railings, and stairs that lead up to a space that fits two 18" dolls. Plus, it comes with plenty of activities to keep campers happy:
Two bright-blue cushions and two ombre camp pillows perfect for relaxing (or for sleeping under the stars!)
A sparkly teal knit blanket for staying cozy
A camp notebook filled with idea-starters for activities and a notebook with pencil for journaling
A schedule to hang up so campers know what’s coming for the day
Repositionable stickers with decorations for the wall and “tape” for hanging a double-sided poster and three fun photos
A mini abridged version of the book Friends: Making Them & Keeping Them
A pretend reversible chalkboard sign for writing friendly notes
Two game cards with bingo on one side and a word search on the other
A set of 28 dominoes to play with
A crate to use as a game table or for storage
Make-believe Jiffy Pop® popcorn to share with friends
Two speckled camp cups for sipping
A pair of binoculars to spot birds or other wildlife
A lantern that really lights up for nighttime games
A camp flag to fly from the roof
A pink-and-white jump rope that dolls can really hold
Okay, it's official. I hate the camp shirt and the outfit they keep showing with it. That didn't take long, huh? But I don't hate this. I won't get it because if I'm going to dream of an expensive hunk of plastic that'll take up too much room in my house, it's currently Blaire's behemoth. But this isn't as bad as people were making it out to be. Yeah, it's probably not for anyone who picked up Kit's treehouse but that was ten years ago so it's safe to say the target age missed that. And I like the accessories they've got for this. Yes, if you're a person who has most if not all of AG's stuff, you could pull together a respectable version of this (hell, probably a better one) but you're also the same kind of dumbass who will buy this just because you buy it all. So... joke's still not on me, I guess? Like it but won't buy it for space and monetary reasons. Will be sad that I won't see this in action enough to make me happy.
I do wonder if all the camp stuff will follow the last big camp release that I can remember and disappear very, very quickly. On the one hand, that's maddening. But on the other, it helps remind people that AG can be sneakily LE.
Overall um... nothing I want enough to spend the money though I will keep an eye on that archery set because a Marian does love a good archer. *cough*
