AG blather, book cover edition.

I've mentioned that AG is definitely re-branding the historical dolls. Again. Right? I gather Beforever didn't work for whatever reasons, and I suspect that we will never officially know because it's not like they'll come out and admit failure.
They released a video that's mostly about them teaming up with Karaleels, a fan/photographer but also includes a sneak peek or three of the new book covers coming... sometime.

Blurry because getting a clear shot of the books moving stupidly fast was not happening for me tonight. Basically this is so you can see Melody's cover at all.

...I have thoughts. They are not all good thoughts. They aren't all bad, either but still. I'm not sure how I feel about them using the different font/logo choices for the characters on the books. I like them well enough on the website but on the books they just look kind of jarring to me.
Melody and her friends are very pretty. But they also look very much like they're playing various shades of dress-up, and I'll be honest. All of the covers aside from Kaya's have that feel. They feel like well done cosplay that made it onto iffy book covers.
Once more, AG fails to keep any kind of cohesive look for Julie as she looks like an entirely different person... and this is probably my least favorite Julie look to date. She's got the yellow blonde hair which is weird because Julie the doll has white blonde and always has. The model is cute but I would never look at this and think Julie if I wasn't already familiar with that outfit.
Of them all, I think I like Maryellen's the most because she actually looks closest to the age they're supposed to be.
Nanea's is nice, but I liked her other covers better.
Kaya, are you being chased or are you simply riding your horse? Because if it's a chase, you look too serene. If not, carry on.

That's not her Meet hat... and you can't make me like this cover by shoving fall folliage all around, AG. I prefer the BF version to this as well. Sigh.
Assuming they do add in illustrations, I will pick up Melody's, ME's, and Nanea's but probably leave the others alone unless they've re-done the illustrations for anyone else. (I would not be upset if they re-did Rebecca's. Hers were... not great.)
Annnnnnnnd it looks like they're quietly updating their new "meet _character_!" pages and leaning towards yes, we will be getting book illustrations. Huzzah!

I'm not in love with ME's first picture as it looks like a magazine ad (and Carolyn has serious bitchface going on) but her second picture is adorable. ♥ Gotta admit though, I'm counting down the seconds til someone (other than me) points out the potential 'shippiness of this picture.

I'm kinda glad to see that AG isn't doing the same kind of art for every historical, despite the bookcovers doing so. That said, I kind of wish we had a better look of Nanea in these shots but y'know what, I'll take what I can get for now.
