Finally got to see Endgame again yesterday and mostly my opinion on the movie is the same. I kind of thought I'd get more out of it a second time but... didn't? Some things hit me more emotionally, I suppose, because I knew they were coming or that something else was coming but in general it wasn't a major shift in how I saw the movie. Maybe it's because the problems I have with it aren't something that can be solved with multiple viewings and are, instead, problems with the MCU in general so far. Maybe it's because since the movie is three damn hours long, even when you first watch it, desperate to know what happens... you still have to sit through three hours, man. You have time to process a fair amount of the things that happen.

I will say that one of the few shifts between viewings for me is that the first go round I definitely got the saying goodbye to the original six and trying to let them have a storyline... sorta... but I also get that basically they wanted to focus on Tony and Steve. This is way more noticeable the second time when you have a moment to breathe instead of trying to see what's going to happen next.

The Natasha problem is bigger on second viewing, probably because you know it's coming. Like what would've happened if say, Rocket and Hawkeye went to fetch the soul stone? Both had their families wiped out with the snap and didn't really seem to have much left to give, love wise. Would they have just been stymied, or would Hawkeye leaping to his own death, giving up the hope of being reunited with his family, I dunno, been a workaround? As much fun as the scenes between Hawkeye and Widow are, it's all the more infuriating that they got sidelined to the point that you had to have Widow be the one to die because at this point his death would do nothing to the audience (and we don't know his family enough to care about their pain)... and it didn't have to be that way if they'd spent the time to make him more than just the sixth Avenger.

At the very least they could've given her a damn wreath to float in the lake with Tony's. There are enough trees around that someone could've crafted one real quick, dammit.

Uh, anyway. Upon second viewing, I kept hoping that this shift away from the originals would mean we'd get more of what I'd really wanted after AoU, which is the second wave of Avengers. Gimme more Sam and Bucky and Wanda and Vision and Hawkeye getting to fucking do something. Gimme more Ant Man being delightful and basically do something with this cast, for crying out loud. And when I say this, I mean for additional movies, as it's always been pretty clear who Endgame would focus on.

And... yes. I am aware that a good chunk of that is apparently going to be what Disney uses to lure people to their version of Netflix. Sigh.

I would still be quite happy with the adventures of the ladies in the MCU as an ongoing thing. *grabby hands*

Lesse. Frigga's scene was even better the second time around and I am reminded that I would very much like to see her being raised by witches, thanks. Valkyrie's bit in the fight scene was better once I had time to actually get to see and appreciate it, and in general the big fight scene is still my favorite part of the movie because it's definitely like getting those splash pages come to life.

I still dig Peggy and Steve getting their happy ending.

The second viewing was nice but I'm not sure I get people who are going insane after seeing it a second time like it's SO MUCH BETTER. It's the same movie, guys. Maybe don't nitpick things to death? I dunno. The interviews the screenwriters and maybe even the directors are doing though, those remain trash and they should stop it immediately. I will say that the first time I got out of the movie and it was just "need to go home, sit in the dark, and pet the cat because that was a lot." And the second was more "hey, that had some fun parts!" Still not the same level of joy as say, Ragnarok, but let's be real, nothing is going to hit that level of fun.
