impySo... when was someone going to tell me that S3 of Riverdale took the previous levels of batshit crazy and decided to multiply that by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina? I'd heard that S3 was nutso but I hear that every year. No one bothered to explain that they decided they wanted to flirt very much with the supernatural and also have Hiram Lodge just go full on comic book villain. I don't even know what his endgame is, honestly. It makes no sense. Nothing in this show makes sense and yet I keep trying to make sense of it. WHY.
So it's revealed that for some fucking reason Hiram wanted Riverdale quarantined while Jughead, FP, Archie, and Fred were all out of town. But why? It's not like the town stayed off-limits. It's not like he couldn't have his weird gang appear while Jug and FP were in town... the Serpents didn't know it was a thing anyway. I. Don't. Understand.
And why the fuck would you stay in Riverdale once Hiram stopped pretending the southside was anything more than drug city? It's not like the northside is magically safe. There's no effing sheriff! The police department is more incompetent than the Rosewood police department! (Rosewood is from Pretty Little Liars and I do believe everyone was either corrupt, dead, a combo, or Toby.) Sorry, former!sheriff Keller.
Worst of all is the writers complete inability to write for their characters. There's clearly making shit up on the fly, as that can be entertaining, and then there's not being able to properly read the room. People have been clamoring for more Cheryl/Toni and their reaction is to give them glimpses into a way more interesting Zeppo-like scenario but instead of going full-on Zeppo and letting us tag along for more than a second (so, y'know, an episode) we just get "they're cat burglars. It's great. No, you can't see anymore." The brief moments where Cheryl's being used as archer-supreme were awesome. More of THAT, less of Archie's weird lone-wolf stuff.
Also also, maybe don't have there be a huge, teary goodbye between Veronica and Archie and then have Archie make eyes at the next girl he runs across? Which I know is the most Archie-comic like thing about this show but still. It's also the one thing I hate most about comics!Archie so you're not getting points for carrying that over.
Other things to rant about: this show is very weird with killing people off. They killed off Midge last year and it was barely a blip on anyone's radar, both on and off the show because character wise, they didn't do anything with her. She meant nothing to our cast and thus she meant nothing to the viewers beyond "aw, comics!Midge deserved better." They killed Dilton off this year and same thing. He meant less to any of the characters than Midge did so it was just a waste of a character and a set-up to what is looking like an entire season-long arc that's basically D&D but if all those stupid chick tracts were right. (btw, those things are vile and I hate remembering that they exist.) It is... insane.
And yet I'm going to keep watching. Why.
Big Little Lies is back and I cannot believe there is a soul alive who watched who doesn't immediately think Meryl Streep's character is bad fucking news. "Maybe she's really just torn up about her son's death!" I'm sure she is. But there's no way in hell that's all there is to her. Not with the way she's acting towards everyone.
Good Omens is so good I'm going to make Mums watch it. She listened to a good chunk of the third episode and kept laughing so I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of getting her to sit and watch.
If you like internet drama, might I suggest looking into the Jaclyn Hill lipstick drama? It is entertaining and maddening at the same time. Entertaining because how often do you get to see someone who claims to be such a perfectionist (oh, it is to laugh) fuck up their long awaited (we're talking years of waiting) makeup launch only to have all the lipsticks have major issues to the degree that even people who normally white knight you are like "girl, you fucked up!" But she still refuses to take responsibility for it and since literally every single collab/thing she's touched has turned to crazy right out the gate, you wonder who the dumbasses are who keep giving her their money. Which takes care of the maddening bit, in case you wondered.
Tomorrow is the AG launch and there's going to be a new ballet outfit, I think, a couple more mix n match items, a hockey set, and some pet stuff. You can see most of it if you go looking on youtube but I refuse to link to someone who has a video about buying everything they touch blindfolded. If you're not in a dollar store, that ain't a thing I want to see because it means you've got too much damn money. Also, pretty sure AG sent her all the new stuff since it's not exactly available yet and I am that petty. But it's pretty easy to find.
Oh, and Captain Marvel showed up yesterday. Yay!
Now. Someone tell me I don't need more of my Beach Nights stuff from BBW's SAS.
