more ranting about Riverdale

Yesterday the cat and I made it through whatever the first episode to air after Luke Perry died in our Riverdale binge. Guys, I'm not sure how this show manages to be both utterly insane to the point that you must ask yourself, aloud, why the fuck you're still watching it, and still also somehow very watchable? How is this possible? Do I hate myself this much? Is there crack in the air or something? Am I brainwashed?
Also, how is it possible that we're more than halfway through the season and Edgar, the guy they haven't shut up about since episode one of the season, still hasn't shown up? He's the Gargoyle King, right? At this point we've run out of herrings, red or otherwise, that I would possibly believe for longer than two seconds and he's pretty much been the obvious answer since the word go but still here I am, waiting for someone to actually investigate the creepy Farm they won't shut up about. Alice's brainwashing is just hurting my soul deeply at this point. She's smarter than this. She's beyond smarter than this. I get that finding out your husband is a serial killer would throw anyone for a loop, but you know who the one character I'd expect to actually find a way around that roadblock would be? Alice. Fucking. Cooper. You know S1/S2 Alice would not accept the fact that currently Gladys Jones is the most interesting mother on the show. She'd flip her shit. She would not stand for this blasphemy.
And yet here we are.
I will say that Riverdale does know when to lean into the batshit crazy of it all. Betty's attempts to keep people from buying the house? Gold. Fangs and Sweat Pea reacting to Jughead telling them, after they admit to manslaughter I might add, that they'll be throwing a party? Also fab.
But they have no concept of how long to keep a storyline going. I'd like to give them credit for having managed to stretch this out to what looks like it's an all season kinda deal, but with a few exceptions, I've spent most of the episodes mentally screaming, "THE FARM, YOU IDIOTS. GO TO THE FARM." What time I haven't spent thinking that has been spent yelling KILL HIRAM, YOU FUCKWITS. It took them entirely too long to point out why Veronica and Hermione might prefer to keep him alive (the fact that the other *cough*mob*cough* families might just take them allllllll out even with Hiram gone) and even then they're complicating it with making him be just the actual worst in all ways. I shouldn't be hoping that Archie freakin' Andrews commits murder just to get rid of someone, no matter how much fun you can tell the actor(s) are having.
In other news, I went swimming yesterday. Widget did not join me after all (sadness) and I also did not make it out to At Home which has begun to put out Halloween. WOE.
