She's here, she's here
Aug. 1st, 2019 09:02 amMy CYO did, in fact, arrive yesterday and I was like a kid waiting for permission to open Christmas presents levels of excited as I waited for the mailman to drop her off. And then she did and I kinda panicked because what if I chose poorly? It didn't help that my day was segmented weirdly due to people flaking on me left and right.

So the shipping box is huge. If I'd thought about this for half a second, I'd have expected it since part of the price tag for the CYO line includes a box that's kind of meant to double as a cardboard version of the old trunks the dolls used to have. So. Big.

Here's Blaire for comparison, not that it really does much good. Mostly she just wanted her picture taken. Here you can admire the green of her eyes and just how pale she is, even if the red of her hair is washed out. Woe.
Let's open the giant box!

Of course it's upside down and the catalog is, too.

Like hell I'm not going to put my name on a box like this.

The box has tied together with a lovely bow that will never be this lovely again. Also, hi nails and bed of a thousand blankets.

My first reaction when opening the box was kinda disappointment because the berry color the company is in love with these days does weird things to the dolls. It's notoriously difficult to take photos in store because of all the berry and this box has a similar effect.

At the bottom of the box is another box and inside this you'll find the accessories and little bits and bobs you might've ordered along with the doll.

We've got a tube of lipgloss attached to a bus pass, so you know this chick ain't local. She's got the world's smallest rainbow slushie, some bracelets, her glasses, her bookbag, a teeny purple ring, her beanie, and my code to make a free T-shirt. Ooh. Ahh. I didn't like this bag as much as some of the others but I liked the stuff better.

Behold, she is free of her box! But it's so massive and the box it came in is obviously even bigger so space was kinda at a premium and thus it's in the background for a bit. Anyway, I think she's cute but no matter how I tried, I couldn't really capture that in a picture. :(
Once more I am reminded how much I miss my little digital camera as my phone is nice, and probably far better at a lot of things, but for dolls, I need something I can fiddle with, I think. Or not fear dropping quite as much.

I've mentioned a hundred times or so that my house eats daylight. So despite the fact that it was stupidly sunny outside, trying to capture how cute my doll was proved to be difficult. Perhaps I made a mistake in choosing the dark blue (just called blue if you're fiddling with the Maker) or perhaps the light just kept getting eaten. Plus the Sonali mold has smaller eyes, or at least this one does.
But she does have the good eyes, as I gently ran my nail over to check for the telltale ridges. And here you can tell they're dark blue, I think.

Various shots by the sliding glass door that leads to the hiding place of a million spiders so no I am not going out there, thank you. She's cute but I keep failing her.
Maybe she needs her glasses?

...nope. These aren't hers, apparently. They just hitched along for the ride because why not since I'm paying for them either way.

Blaire hung out and I tried to compare the light red and Blaire's red, which is definitely the red I'd always wished AG would use for their redheads like Felicity and her various not!counterparts. My CYO's definitely got Nellie's strawberry blonde. For those wondering why I, an obnoxious "more redheads and I do mean red, not strawberry blonde!" type would not get a red-redhead, it's a two-fer. One, I don't remember whether the red in the CYO line is the same as Blaire's and 61's. Two, I wanted a light Sonali mold and it's really hit or miss on how good it looks in red.
I really do adore this Meet outfit, but it's not really working for her, so I figured we'd try just the tee.

Closer, but still not quite there.
But since we're taking stuff off, let's get a shot of the CYO foot-stamp, shall we?

Oooh. Ahhh.
Nothing was clicking though, but it was super frustrating because I'd see glimpses of the cute doll I'd hoped for when I put together the order. I shuffled back to the computer and tried editing the pics a bit and then pulled up the pictures from the CYO thread that inspired my doll choice to try and figure out what, exactly, wasn't working. Then someone who also got their CYO yesterday said that the wig would need to settle or something similar and it hit me again. The wig.
I hate messing with the wig right away unless it's either really short or pin straight, neither of which are in play here. But I dislike not loving a doll I've been basically stalking for two weeks now so... Figured I'd try a different shirt (or outfit) as purple doesn't seem to be doing it for her and since I'd also be messing with the wig, might as well.
I didn't want to go nuts and I am particularly lazy, so I wound up just doing pigtails and um, got it on the first try.

I still didn't fully manage to capture the cute but I'm much happier.
Still, she needed a name. One popped into my head when I took a buncha pics to see if any would be less than suckariffic, but I still sent Cass a picture and asked her opinion.

Annnnnnnnd right away she says, "Harley."

Which was the same name that I'd thought of so yeah. She'll be joining Leia in the geeks-named-us section. But it would also explain why she and Blaire hit it off, as my Blaire is less a chef (so far) and more into her plants.

I tried her in Molly's BF Pjs but they didn't really suit her. I will say that the PJs are pretty lightweight, in a good way (like you would want your PJs to feel like this in non-winter) and the fuzzy slippers are really soft. The pants also have real pockets and they're deep. The buttons are functional (no Velcro) and overall while this isn't the look for Harley, they're fantastic PJs and I'd totally wear 'em in my size. :P
Oh, and I guess I should include a mini review of the new Let's Explore Meet, huh? The shorts are big enough that I think even Samantha, my biggest doll, could fit into them. They might be a bit snug on her, but they're fairly loose on Harley. There are no pockets. The Explore The Wild tee shirt is pretty nice and I like how each time I'd see the compass in pictured, I'd initially think it was a necklace despite knowing better. :P The purple shirt has functional buttons and I looooove it. The beanie is a beanie and the shoes fit fairly well, though Harley nearly lost the left one as I took her out of the box. While the outfit doesn't work for Harley, I'm going to be quite happy to find out which of the Army it does suit. :D

Ozma thanks you for your time and also wants to know why I didn't include all the pictures she took. (She and Harley seem to be friends, but not as close as she and Marie Grace are.)

Date: 2019-08-11 08:49 pm (UTC)She is so pretty! I liked how her hair seemed to get redder and redder as you changed outfits. Against Blaire's, it really looks blonde to my untrained eye. Excellent choice!

Date: 2019-08-12 04:00 am (UTC)And I didn't mean to work hair color witchcraft but I'll take that one. :D I'm pretty sure her hair is the same color as Nellie's which is definitely strawberry blonde, with an emphasis on the blonde. It's also the same color I tend to dye my hair when I'm not doing weird colors at the end.
