impy: TJ from Recess wondering WTF? (TJ wtf)

Work tried to kill me so I spent the morning afterwards finishing S4 of She-Ra.

I should probably actually give this some time as I juuuuuuuust finished the last episode and I'm mostly still in a state of huh. about the whole thing. S4 is definitely more cohesive than S2/3 and even if you considered those to be one season, S4 is still ahead. I won't say there's no filler, as you've got an episode where Sea Hawk is Sea Hawk. But it works better in the overall arc of the season than my initial feelings towards past filler-esque episodes did. Mermista snaps out of her well deserved funk and the divide between Glimmer and Adora is deepened, all while Mermista and Sea Hawk sing.

I liked the other princesses getting a brief moment to shine and yet this also leads me to my absolute biggest problem with the new She-Ra: There are entirely too many characters fighting for screentime they are never going to get. Sometimes I wish this show had time to just breathe for a second instead of just going full speed ahead. Which is a bit of an odd complaint since I started out by commending them for not making a total filler fluff episode. But that's more of a using the time you have wisely and my complaint is wishing they had more time. So that you could have fluff and filler or get to hang out with Frosta or have Scorpia get more than 6 minutes of storytime in an episode entitled Princess Scorpia. I might be exagerating but it's not really by much. S2/3 were too streamlined for their own good, and S4 had so much to live up to after the effects of S3's ending that it's still very much a rollercoaster, mostly screaming downhill towards Hordak Prime's appearance at the end. The twist about Light Hope being responsible for Adora being found is interesting, but again, still screaming towards a most unpleasant goal.

Which might be the other bummer for S4. It was a lot of doom and gloom. Probably another reason they HAD to give Sea Hawk an episode- so people didn't lose the will to live and join Mermista in the tub with a sea of ice-cream, waiting for the end to just hurry up and arrive so we'd know what the hell was going to happen, all while knowing that the season would end on a huge cliffhanger, as usual.

Seriously though. So. Much. Pain. From Glimmer losing her mother and dealing with the fallout of that, to Catra unraveling pretty quickly, to Scorpia realizing that Catra is incapable of being the person Scorpia sees buried inside (or wants to see), to Hordak's ongoing heartbreak over Entrapta and her own feeling of being left behind. It's a lot. Which is balanced pretty well in episodes but the moment you start to add things up, it just exhausts you. Or maybe that's just me.

Double Trouble was most fun for me when interacting with Catra before the inevitable double-cross. I was sad that Flutterina wasn't a real character, though. Woe. King Micah being on Beast Island was fun and the second they landed and saw all the tech, they should've known Entrapta would be in heaven there. Frosta and Perfuma setting up the sleepover with Scorpia was adorable and I was torn between the season long quest to break Scorpia and the fact that she did get a story... even if it was just to be used by Glimmer.

The cat has fallen asleep on my arm so my time is pretty much up, but I do wonder: why the ever loving fuck didn't anyone, I dunno, have Casta weigh in on the spells SW was teaching Glimmer if they were all that worried?

Also, Hordak, you fool.

Finally- thank you for the Lonnie, Kyle, and Rogelio goodness, S4.
