Surprise AG release

impyAG decided to start the week with the COVID-19 outfit and then sneak in a two(?) day sale of Team USA stuff that probably is being done because the Olympics were postponed but the warehouse still has the stuff. I don't know about that, though, so in the interest of distracting you and also sharing shiny things, let's jump in.
Team USA Softball Set // $60

Infield, outfield, or up to bat, have a ball with this Team USA set. It includes:
A softball jersey with a stars-and-stripes graphic on the front

Honestly, this is the one with the most playability options. It's also obviously the most expensive option at $60, but you do get a fair amount of AG stuff for your buck. I'm kinda tempted but the price will keep me away and that's probably for the best, given that this feels like it's either meant for kids to play with or collectors to make scenes with. I think this is the one that looks the most like what the actual Olympic teams tend to wear. I'm not saying the others aren't accurate, just that this one somehow feels more like they shrunk an actual set down to doll size.

Also, I keep saying I'm going to order a soccer outfit and never do, so might as well go for one I actually like, right?

I think this is a cute enough set, but I have mixed feelings on this, despite actually ordering it. I think it's weird to kind of monetize the pandemic, and that's kinda what this is doing. I know people are all excited about the book donation, but that kind of feels like something they could have been doing anyway. I don't know. I could also be smarting over the fact that I made one comment about how I wished for the generic retail grunt uniform too and people were all "BUT I WAS A NURSE 11 BILLION YEARS AGO AND THIS OUTFIT COULD ALSO BE USED AS A HALLOWEEN COSTUME OR JUST REGULAR NURSE OR WHATEVER AND THUS IS MORE IMPORTANT AND INTERESTING!" I mean, they didn't caps lock me or anything, but they did kind of go all in on the nurse thing. To which I say, I didn't say the retail grunt instead of the scrubs. I mean in addition to. You guys are always wanting mix and max pieces and retail grunt uniform would be pants (hey, the boy dolls could snag these, too), a polo shirt, and a freakin' lanyard nametag that you'd personalize. And black or white tennis shoes. But sure, sure, I get it. Scrubs are cuter.
Also, this outfit, while cute as hell and it is, happens to be the face of AG's nominate an essential worker contest and dude, I'm forever bitter about such contests. In theory, they're great. In reality, it kinda sucks because in the whole "nominate" thing, you actually have to be nominated and then have the good luck to win. *shrug* I know, it's my hangup and if we ignore all that, the outfit itself is cute.
Ultimately, I rounded out my order with the gold jacket and cherry blossoms skirt from the last little release, and the market day skirt from the previous mix and match release. When I made my order, there was no mention of when the Team USA stuff would ship, which is why the info is only included on the medal ceremony stuff. At the time I originally compiled most of this, it wasn't on the listings. And I didn't post at like, 3am because I had/have a horrible headache.

It would be cool if they could actually replicate the uniforms that are actually worn by the athletes, but considering Nike has a stronghold there, good luck to that even happening, much less for a decent price.
I'm with you on monetizing the pandemic. It just seems skeevy. And pretty much every healthcare worker I know despises being called a "hero" for basically just doing their job. I mean, I get the sentiment, but at the same time, where was this respect for these workers before the pandemic brought them into focus? Where is the respect for retail workers, resturant workers, other members of the more or less slave class, etc? And where is the love for teachers - now that every parent has to do it themselves, do they finally realize that maybe we should pay these people something close to a living wage?

Gasp! Pay people a decent, living wage? Not possible! It's a shame that for the four days in the middle of March or whenever when just about every parent realized "ohshit, this is only a fraction of what the teachers do" there was no way to push through a raise right then.
We've now cycled back around to the conspiracy theorists coming in to vent. Save it for the online crowd, lady.

If I were making one, I'd probably actually go the Josefina mold simply because I like it better. I figure if you tweak the curls a bit, it'd work pretty well.
Also, how had I never noticed the prototype of the Abby doll we never got until today? How? Why were we denied such awesomeness?
I had not seen the wank, but as soon as I got your reply, I went looking. Annnnnnnnnnnd thanks to venting elsewhere, I know exactly who they're complaining about. I am ever so thankful I never felt the need to follow her (https://www.instagram.com/beautifullydonedrapery/ in case you wondered) cuz reading any of her posts gives me either a migraine or brings our retail PTSD. I'm pretty sure I received my 18" dolls the year they were first released, in 1993. At $35/doll I'm shocked that I got anything else for Christmas that year, LOL!!

I'm not going to ask why Jackie isn't a redhead because I think that might be the least of the worries for that line. And I didn't realize the '98 dolls were a thing until years later.
