To decompress from my half-assed cleaning, let's do a half-assed ramble about the RH fashion show finale looks, shall we?
I considered doing this in order of how much I liked them and then the cat draped herself across the desk and at this point I'm wishing I'd just decided to poke tumblr and see if they had gifs for snagging. :P
I'm also operating under the assumption that these will make it to doll form sometime. If not, well, ignore all comments that relate to that?
So, we'll go in order of appearance.
Ruby:

Ruby's got a look and she adheres to it, huh? That said, while I'm not sure it's my favorite kind of look in general, I think in doll world it's probably my second favorite of the pre-transformations. Am I a sucker after all these years for red, black, and white due to the Sleepover Friends? I mean, yes, probably, but also this is the second best overall look for me. Sweater dress with excessive buckles is a win.
Poppy:

On paper, this is fabulous. In reality, it's bulky due to the change gimmick. Which is odd because not all of the outfits seem to adhere to the realistic aspect of showing what a presto-change-o look would actually look like pre-change. If they'd gone the non-realistic route for it, it'd probably top Ruby's look for me just because I dig the artistry more.

Kinda loathe the pink in Poppy's hair but her shoes are so delicate that it balances out somehow. I don't make the rules, man.
Sunny:

Sunny's pre-transformation outfit is kind of basic but I do kinda love that I swear the change happens either when she gets wet or she just takes a huge breath and the bungee cord belt just snaps and well, you'll see.

I do absolutely love the holographic sparkle in her hair.
Jade:

Is my favorite, hands own. Giant stompy black boots? Yes, please. Silver, metallic overlay of stars and lightning bolts? Why the hell not? Black dress underneath? Mmm, yes. The transformation takes it over the top for the show and I love that bit, but this is miles and away my favorite outfit of the bunch. Like if she's #1, poor Ruby is a very, very distant #2. Jaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddeeeeeeeeee.

Love this.
Skyler:

Annnnnnnnnd in "literally afraid to follow that up so I didn't even try" we have Skyler. I... from the waist up, I think this is a pretty look. Silver and blue? Love it. Denim? I'm getting Britney flashbacks but sure. But Skyler is the only one without a change to the outfit and I don't understand why? It's fine, I guess, and if they were just doing one look with maaaaaybe just one girl getting a transformation, I'd be okay with it, even though I'd rank her down at the bottom because that much denim seems heavy. But she's one of the designers and her thing is trusting that she's got the talent and this is all she tries for?

Sigh. I will say I love that they made her eyeshadow look like denim glitter.

Violet:

Originally I had her at the bottom of my list but the more I wonder at Skyler's failure to gimme more, the more fondly I look at Violet's entry. I also prefer her hairstyle so that might help. Otherwise, this is kinda meh and kind of lovely at the same time. You can tell the animators really thought this would land better than it seems to in terms of fandom because only Skyler's got more close-up frames. But unlike Poppy, there's no real room for the extra fabric to unfurl and it's a bit of a letdown after the transformation. Pre-transformation I like it far more. I... have complicated thoughts on stripper shoes for teenagers though. Like maybe no.
Amaya:

Like Violet, her outfit isn't super complicated. It's one I think could look really good in reality but could also look like trash, depending on how they choose to do it.

Her shoes are a bit clunky for the outfit but they're better than Skyler's (I think, it's hard to get a look at them) and I like the rainbows in general. Just maybe not with this particular dress?
So, prior to the transformation, I'd probably list them as:
Jade, Ruby, Poppy, Violet, Sunny, Amaya, and Skyler
Sunny would be lower but I find her adorable in general and her hair is more interesting and that bumps her up.
I'm too lazy to go girl by girl again so here's the lineup at the end of the show:

Ruby: I want to strip the red overlay thing off and just have her wear the black part of the outfit. This makes me worry about the sweater/hoodie dress portion of the pre-transformation, but it's an interesting look all the same.
If the doll makes it so you can essentially pull off three looks with this, she'll stay in second place. If you sacrifice the functionality of the first outfit in favor of the second, I'll probably bump her down to third.
Poppy's transformation look is lovely and it's kind of exactly what you'd expect when you see the pre-transformation look. Like you know this is what you'll get but you're happy you wound up here anyway. She's still in third assuming Ruby's look doesn't crumble in real world translation.
Sunny made me laugh and wonder wtf at the same time. This is apparantly a look yanked from a real designer so there's that. It's insane and only Sunny has a chance of pulling it off. I'm not really sure she does, to be fair, but I'll be damned if I don't laugh each time I see it.
Jade is still so far ahead of everyone that she's running laps at this point. I would assume they'll pull a MH Frankie kind of overlay for the lightning effect but it's still nifty and I loooooooove it.

Skyler, we discussed this. You didn't change. Why?
Violet's second look is so close to the first as to make me wonder why bother for the second, especially if Skyler's not going to attempt something more for herself, but at least Vi tried. Not... sure how the transformation will work since there's not a ton of room for it in the initial look. Maybe just kind of snapped into the first row? *muse*
Amaya's sheer rainbow is just so very, very sheer. I don't love it but it's also kind of exactly what I'd expect Amaya to wear so there's points for... something there. Again, I think this is going to depend very heavily on how it's done in reality but I can see it being a fairly easy translation from screen to doll, since the fabric for the rainbow should be lightweight.
Disappointed by my usual favorite end of the rainbow (not in this line, just... colorwise in general). It's like you lot didn't even try and two of you were the designers, dammit. :P

Date: 2021-06-16 03:27 pm (UTC)I wish the inside of Sunny's umbrella was rainbow colored or something. I do like the raindrops but since I would never, ever intentionally have her displayed in the umbrella dress (think of the dust) it probably doesn't really help.
Again, again!
