It's that time again when we crack open the newest BSC graphic novel and wonder when, exactly, I got old. :P

The newest BSC graphic novel is Good-bye Stacey, Good-bye annnnnnd... not sure how I feel about it. I'm not sure why we switched artists for Kristy and the Snobs just to switch back for this round but maybe it was a scheduling thing.

Still not my favorite art style and without the love I had for Ashley, this one gets dinged for it a bit. People had real issues with the style choices going on with the She-Ra revamp a few years ago and I'm thinking this is how I feel about this art style. It's not for me, really. I like it on some characters, don't mind on others, but since I really don't love it for Stacey, well, you see the problem.

Thing is, my biggest problem is that with the books changing how the non core BSC characters look, it means that gun to my head, I couldn't ID everyone in this shot if my life depended on it:

I can get the Pikes, Jeff (but only because he showed up previously in the same book), Buddy and Suzy, the Brewer-Thomas kids, Charlotte (again, like Jeff, only because she'd previously been shown), and I assume that's Becca next to Vanessa. I'm also assuming Jackie and his brothers are in front of Shannon, and once more I scream WHY IS JACKIE NOT A REDHEAD, but who the fuck is between Archie and David Michael? Who's next to Andrew? I don't have a damn clue. I know it's not really important exactly, but it's annoying.

I still don't get why Mary Anne is wearing her hair in her braids every time we see her, nor do I get why she's got blue eyes:

And had it not ID'd Shannon and Logan, I probably wouldn't have remembered that was them right away. And by probably, I mean it took me reading the speech bubble to get it.

One of the things I'd forgotten I loved about this book was the yard sale, so seeing it come to life was great fun. Look at Princess Jenny P down there, sassing it up.

I also love how serious Kristy looks taking the cash. She's such a goof. Also, this is probably the biggest, most obvious bit of "this ain't the old Stoneybrook" one could find.

I cracked up at Dawn's expressions for this chapter and really, Dawn's my favorite for this artist's style. Kristy and Jessi are both pretty nifty as well, but Mal should consider suing.

And I mentioned before that I don't love Stace in this style, but I do love this panel. I actually really like how the dudes are drawn more than the girls, which is something I realized when I flipped back through the book. Alas, that's not really helpful for the BSC and me. Cater to my whims, dammit. :P (Yes, if you've stumbled across this, rando from elsewhere, that's clearly a joke.)

Ah well. They can't all be my favorites and I think I did notice before that it does take me a couple of books to really gel with an artist so maybe the next one will do the trick and I can come back and love this one more.

I busted out my copies of the last four to try to figure out who everyone is.

Starting with the left. Pikes and Becca. Jamie? I'm not sure. Charlotte. Buddy and Suzi. Hannie and Linny. And Jenny in playclothes?!!

On the right. The Rodowskys, who all were just described as redheads in #17. Gabby and Miriah. (They were in #10 looking like that.) David Michael. Jeff. Karen and Andrew. I think this is Nina and Eleanor. Mr. Marshall was the one eyeing the ping pong table at the sale and these two were also present. Amanda and Max.

So that mystery boy has to be Jamie. They couldn't leave him out.
