Arcane blather

During my morning rounds, I saw a post over on ye olde Tumblr that reminded me of something I noticed on my rewatch.
SPOILERS.
The post that sparked the memory was about the parallels between Vander's death and Silco's death and how they ultimately diverge. Which I can sum up for you right now: Vander's the good dad, Silco's the shitty dad. I know, too easy. And also not the point, just the spark of memory.
Silco's death is his own damn fault.
Silco dies only because he gravely miscalculates Jinx's feelings for Vi. One could, and probably will, argue that he fights to get the gun because Vi's (unintentionally) hurting Jinx and he wants to stop that, but the dude's been on a quest to make sure Vi resumes her dead status the entire time he's been aware she's alive, so in this case his motivation matters a little less than it normally would.
Had he not grabbed the gun and attempted to shoot Vi, his fate still would have rested with Jinx. Caitlyn would've likely argued that he be brought to Piltover for justice for his many, many crimes and I'm not sure Vi would've been able to talk her out of it had she wanted to try. She'd know better than anyone whether Stillwater Prison would be a good fit/punishment for Silco, assuming he didn't manage to weasel out of custody at some point. The question would've been whether Jinx let this happen or been in a position to make that call, depending on how Vi's appeal to Powder played out had Silco not interfered.
However, Silco's fear of losing Jinx to Vi was so great, he was ready to shoot Vi IN FRONT OF JINX, further traumatizing her, just to keep Jinx. Instead, she did what she does when you threaten Vi and aren't Jinx herself: she took out the threat.
Jinx was in no physical danger during that scene and Silco's smart enough to have realized that, especially once Jinx took Caitlyn out after Vi made it very clear that if you kill Jinx, you kill Powder, and that could not be forgiven. If you argue that Silco was just trying to stop the pain Vi was putting Jinx through in her attempt to connect to Powder, then you've also gotta accept that Silco knows what killing Vi in front of Jinx, for Jinx's "benefit" would do to her and how it would be a million times worse than whatever the fallout of Vi's failed attempt at reaching Powder. Both are going to hurt Jinx, but one of those options gets Vi out of the way and Silco has proven he can put the broken pieces of Jinx back together again. He just doesn't care that he's not using all the pieces or that he's the one that broke her so fantastically in the first place.
While it was likely a combination of factors, it ultimately ended with Silco making the choice to continue his quest to take out the one thing keeping Jinx from being completely his: Vi. In making that choice, in front of Jinx, he sealed his fate.
Btw, Vi's physically restrained throughout this whole scene so she was not an immediate danger to Silco in any physical way. Vi's even willing to walk away from EVERYTHING with Jinx/Powder and that would have meant not killing Silco.
Depending on how devious you think Silco is, you might argue that he set himself up, but in doing so that would've done even more damage to Jinx and that's a tangent for another time so we end here: Silco could have made it to the end of Season 1 alive but didn't because his desire to kill Vi and sever that bond between the sisters was too great.
And he's still a shitty father in regards to Jinx's mental health and no, I still will not hear otherwise.
