Oh, Wanda.
Jun. 22nd, 2022 11:01 amMums and I watched Dr. Strange And The Multiverse of Madness this morning and uh, I have thoughts.
What the fuck, MCU. What the actual fuck. This thing was paced so weirdly and immediately undid everything Wandavision did for Wanda at the end. Like I get that it's Strange's movie but choices were made and some were bad.
Was it because the obvious (I'd think, but what do I know) choice would've been to have Wanda start off helpful and then, y'know, get swayed to the same conclusion everyone else made: take America's power for herself and Marvel had to go all "Can't be obvious!" even though it's a better fucking story than what we got?
Seriously, I don't have a huge problem with Wanda going off the deep end except... hear me out:
There are a zillion universes out there, right? Right. There's got to be one where Billy and Tommy have lost their Wanda. Hell, there are probably multiple universes with that, given how often Wanda gets fucking nerfed. So. Wanda. Honey. Darling. Teach America to use her powers and punch your way to THAT universe. Fucking seriously. What If showed it was possible to take a character from one universe and throw them in another and it wouldn't all be terrible.
Still, the way Wandavision ends leads one to believe her kids are in trouble (in addition to her devouring the book of the damned). THAT could've been the catalyst for Wanda being desperate to get America's powers. It probably SHOULD have been. Instead she's immediately evil because book corrupts absolutely and there's some serious whiplash since she's still drowning in her grief and FFS, she ends Wandavision learning she's got to actually work through the grief. Multiverse just yanks all that back and it's not a satisfying trade. ARGH.
Basically, you want her evil? Fine, cool, we can totally do that. But maybe don't just jump right to it, y'know? Work for it, even if it's just a little bit. Don't rely on an end credits scene to do the heavy lifting for you. It's supposed to set things up, not be the ultimate and only mention before diving headfirst into "Wanda's evil. Again."
Which, btw, was fab, and I spent the entire movie wishing it would end with Wanda fighting Wanda, but no. I didn't hate America showing Wanda that what she thought she wanted/deserved was a terrible, terrible idea, but I wanted more W vs. W, mmkay?
Annnnnd I should mention I enjoyed the more horror-themed elements enough that I'd probably have enjoyed this way more on the big screen but COVID so fuck me, I suppose.
I dug America and hope they'll actually do something with her. I also enjoyed getting to see Captain Carter again, even if uh, well, it was shortlived.
You can keep your attempts at another shot at the fucking Fantastic 4 because I do not care and it's not even possible for me to care at this point. STOP IT.
Completely unrelated: You might recall I had issues making an order for Adora's meds. I finally made an order that showed up and went through as partially paid (because Afterpay) annnnnnnnnd apparently they cancelled it on Monday but that email went and hid until I actively hunted for it after noticing my order on the site said cancelled. WHY. Is it because they ran out? Because they couldn't get ahold of the vet (I'd hope not, it wasn't like they gave it any time to be checked)? Tell me whyyyyyyy Petsmart. WTF. So now I have to hunt them down for a reason, have to poke Afterpay to gimme my first payment back, AND ask the vet to approve any request or let me know what additional hoop I need to jump through to get this stupid stuff because it's NOT available from them. Maybe the CAS has it. *muse*
