AG August release (the first?)
Aug. 5th, 2022 08:47 amHalloween landed yesterday at AG but since I had to do battle with the black cats, I didn't get time to post until today. Ooh. Ahh.

Courtney's Halloween Costume // $42
Item#HJD10
Courtney dresses up for Halloween as Crystal Starshooter, the video game superhero she invented for her school project. Her futuristic costume includes:
A white zip-front bodysuit with sparkly-pink puffy accents and a Crystal Starshooter logo on the chest
A pair of white puffy space boots
A pretend space blaster Courtney can hold in her hand
AG, you know what's missing here? Two things. One, a hair thingamabob. Two, a trick or treat bag. Seriously, if you're going to market this as her Halloween costume, she needs a bag for her loot. Had you called this her Crystal Starshooter Costume I wouldn't think you were cheaping out here. But you didn't so I do.
That being said, this is very cute. But my soul dies at all white outfits because, well, I am the worst. Also... *eyes the black cats*
But yay for AG making this finally!

Maryellen's Cowgirl Costume // $42
Item#HJD09
Like many kids in the 1950s, Maryellen loves to pretend she's a hero in a Wild West adventure. She imagines herself riding a horse to deliver medicine or save the town from bandits, just like in the shows she watches on TV. Her costume includes:
A long-sleeved red-and-white gingham check shirt with white fringe and horse embroidery on the denim yoke
A short flared denim skirt
A red cowgirl hat with white trim
A pair of red cowgirl boots with a white star cutout
This is cute as hell. I was all set to not be all that in love with it but nope, cute as hell. Also, dude, what is it about Maryellen that each time they release something for her, I wind up wanting the doll despite my vow to basically avoid classic mold whenever possible. WHY. HOW.

Pretty Pumpkin Costume // $40
Item#HJF65
It’s sure to be a happy Halloween in this sparkly spin on a classic pumpkin costume! It features:
An orange foil sequin pumpkin dress with an embroidered Jack-o’-Lantern face on the front, attached black long sleeves, and green felt leaves at the neckline
A matching foil sequin beret with an embroidered green stem and leaves on top
A pair of black-and-orange-striped knit leggings
A pair of black glitter boots with orange laces
I'm torn on this one. It's not QUITE as childish as I originally thought because the pumpkin isn't as floofy but that also means it's an odd length and really, it still works better as a BB or WW outfit. That said... I kinda like it more than I thought? Currently Shoppay is being a butt but before I realized that, I had it on my maybe list and if not for the leaves, I think this would be a definite yes just for the oddity. As it is, gotta wait for money and hope it doesn't sell out like the witch did last year.

You Glow Girl Skeleton Costume // $40
Item#HJF66
No bones about it, girls will love lighting up the night in this glow-in-the-dark skeleton costume that includes:
A long-sleeved knit dress with glow-in-the-dark printed skeleton bones on the chest and sleeves—which have thumbholes at the cuffs—and an attached multicolored tattered tulle skirt
A pair of black knit leggings with glow-in-the-dark printed skeleton bones
A pair of pink glitter low-top sneakers with a black stripe printed on the sides of the soles, and black elastic laces
A black plastic hairbow with a skull at the center and a long fuchsia hair extension attached
If the tulle wasn't attached to the shirt, they'd be in business, even if I still think the hands are kinda funky because I like thumbhole stuff even if the stars have yet to align to give me anything of my own. But it is so I'm left here going "uh, the shoes are nice? And the hairbow reminds me of Ruby Gloom." Eh.

Spooky Spells Witch Costume // $40
Item#HKN06
Brew up some fun this Halloween or during dress-up time in this shiny, spooky witch costume that includes:
A black rainbow-foil dress with a mesh neckline, a teal satin underskirt, and an attached belt with a shiny buckle
A black rainbow-foil hat with a blue ribbon around it
A pair of multi-foil-print fingerless gloves with thumb holes
A pair of black glitter boots and a pair of striped knit socks
A broom with a handle for the doll to hold as she rides
Not entirely sure but I suspect these are just the pictures from last year. Allegedly the shoes this year aren't plastic. Too tired to look up last year's pictures. Future!me, get on that, k? Annnnnnnd not the same, so definitely different shoes. Everyone is all 'glad I didn't pay the $140+ people were selling it for last year!' but I'm outright laughing at those who did. Because yeah, no sympathy if you're out here paying that much more than retail.
If not for the fact that I am broke, I'd already have this on its way to me right now.

Mighty Blue Cheerleader Outfit // $38
Item#HKN04
Two, four, six, eight, there’s so much to appreciate about this outfit that includes:
A blue cotton twill dress with an embroidered American Girl star on the front, silver glitter print stars on the skirt, and a sparkly silver ribbon on the bodice and waist
A pair of white low-top sneakers with blue elastic laces
Two blue, white, and gray pom-poms with elastic to help dolls hold them
A blue ribbon hairbow with shiny silver trim and an attached hair tie
A pair of cotton-knit low-top socks
A pair of blue cotton jersey briefs
I find myself waffling on this. On the one hand, we've discussed my lack of cheer outfits, which is weird as that's usually something I'm a sucker for. But, apparently, I never manage to pull the trigger and buy. I do like the colors and the pom-poms are cute. I'm glad the shoes seem to be not plastic but I think it's simply I can't justify a $38 cheer costume that, in all likelihood, is gonna wind up on clearance. We'll see.

Rah-Rah Red Cheerleader Outfit // $38
Item#HJF67
Who’s got spirit? Let us hear it! Root for your favorite team in this outfit that includes:
A red cotton twill dress with an embroidered American Girl star on the front, silver glitter print stars on the skirt, and a sparkly silver ribbon on the bodice and waist
A pair of white low-top sneakers with red elastic laces
Two red, white, and gray pom-poms with an attached elastic hair tie to help dolls hold them
A red ribbon hairbow with shiny silver trim and an attached hair tie
A pair of cotton knit low-top socks
A pair of red cotton jersey briefs
That's fucking pink, AG. You should know; it's the color of the walls in your stores and your doll boxes and basically it's AG Pink. It's not red. STOP MESSING WITH MY HEAD, DAMMIT. Ahem.

Including the other promo shots because um, Halloween. Yes, please.

Date: 2022-08-08 11:42 pm (UTC)Is the lure of Mary Ellen that strawberry blond hair? It's not blonde-blonde, it's not red, but that perfect in-between color.
I cannot with the Crystal Starshooter costume. Just give her a helmet and let her be an astronaut already.

Date: 2022-08-09 12:14 am (UTC)That might be it. I wonder if her hair is the same shade as Nellie's, which was probably my favorite hair color on me for ages. That and she reminds me of Gabrielle from Xena. But the hair thing might've cracked the code.
*snort* But they made the astronaut outfit for Luciana. Gotta keep that 80's side pony out so people remember 80's and nostalgia buys.
