AG goes to Hogwarts
Sep. 1st, 2022 10:42 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
AG's up to tomfoolery again, so we get a new release. This is the Harry Potter release, and apparently they snuck in the holiday bling bags as well.
Next week we're getting the Truly Me revamp and rumor has it they're getting rid of ALL the Truly Me dolls other than 89-92 though they'll obviously be adding in at least a small handful of new dolls as they're showing them throughout the HP collection.
Speaking of HP, let's address the hateful elephant in the room: Because JKR is trash, I shall not be buying these and am not thrilled with some of fandom showing their super conservative asses.*
So with that in mind, we're going to just go about looking at the stuff because I like to have a record of releases and also part of my heart will still be fond of HP even if fandom and the author have definitely tainted that love. I freely admit that should something strike my fancy hard enough, I'm not above heading to the grey market for this. If people can reason JKR's not getting a ton of the profits from this, I can reason that while AG desperately needs a win, my lack of funds going to them won't be missed.
Once more: AG, your timing ain't shit.
* The new Costco sets have stars on the shirts and one is flipped to the side and someone all but clutched their pearls and wondered if it was true that AG was using a Satanic symbol and ohmygod, I snorted Sprite. It hurt but was worth the cackle.

AG Gryffindor Set // $26
Item#HLH32
Gryffindor students are beloved for their brave hearts and daring minds. Like-minded muggles will love this set adorned with authentic details.
Includes:
A gray sweater with red and gold stripes on the trim and a Gryffindor crest on the chest, a red and gold satin tie, and a red and gold knit scarf featuring the Gryffindor crest and fringe on the ends
All sales are final. No returns or exchanges.
Let's take another moment and note that there are no returns or exchanges on the HP merch. Elsewhere it says that the HP stuff is only available online. No one's entirely sure if that last one is true or if someone goofed/or it's only true this first week or what. Gryffindor's set is also the only one that's currently backordered til the end of the month or so.
Gryffindor's colors have always been my least favorite but that's what you get when you're the main house sooooooooo... we'll discuss the sets in general here. These look pretty well made. I'm not going to fuss about the ties because dude, fuck that shit. Make it easy on me, AG. I was impressed with how inexpensive, for AG, these are. Until I saw the uniforms and then it all made sense. :P But yeah, these are a good det because in theory you could dupe out the rest of the uniform and just get these and feel like you got something nifty.

AG Slytherin Set // $26
Item#HLH33
Witches and wizards in the Slytherin house are cunning, proud and ambitious. Like-minded muggles will love this set adorned with authentic details.
Includes:
A gray sweater with green and silver stripes on the trim and a Slytherin crest on the chest, a green and silver satin tie, and a green and silver knit scarf featuring the Slytherin crest and fringe on the ends
I see that we're taking liberties with the color silver, are we? The tie, sure. The rest? Mmm, no. But fine, fine, you do you. I'm not a Slytherin gal so this one would only be bought because I like green. I'm safe!
Btw, our models are definitely new TM dolls. One's basically #27 but without earrings and with painted eyelashes (oh, the bitching this move is prompting within the fandom) and Sonali dude is also new. Ooh. Ahh.

AG Hufflepuff Set // $26
Item#HLH34
Students in the Hufflepuff House are known for their patience, loyalty, and dedication. Like-minded muggles will love this set adorned with authentic details.
Includes:
A gray sweater with yellow and black stripes on the trim and a Hufflepuff crest on the chest, a yellow and black satin tie, and a yellow and black knit scarf featuring the Hufflepuff crest and fringe on the ends
This is the one I'd have bought Mums and totally used to justify the entire order because of the gift. :P

AG Ravenclaw Set // $26
Item#HLH35
Ravenclaw students possess unmatched intelligence and inspiring creativity. Like-minded muggles will love this set adorned with authentic details.
Includes:
A gray sweater with blue and silver stripes on the trim and a Ravenclaw crest on the chest, a blue and silver satin tie, and a blue and silver knit scarf featuring the Ravenclaw crest and fringe on the ends
And this is the other set I'd have bought Mums but stolen for my own use at times. :P Honestly, I think Slytherin's looks best but this isn't a case of going with the look you prefer, it's where your loyalties lie.

AG Uniform With Pants // $55
Item#HJR39
Welcome, Hogwarts fans! A new school year awaits witches and wizards wearing this authentic doll-sized uniform:
Includes:
A hooded robe with a Hogwarts crest on the chest, a white button-front shirt, a pair of twill pants with pockets, a pair of knit socks, and a pair of black dress shoes
Brb, gonna laugh myself into a frenzy at the people who are going to shell out for multiples of these sets. Seriously though, that price hurts. It's not terrible considering there's the uniform (including socks and shoes) and the robe plus the liscencing fee but still. Yeow.
AG Hogwarts Uniform With Skirt // $55
Item#HJR38
Calling all witches and wizards! Hogwarts fans can get back-to-school ready in this doll-sized uniform adorned with authentic details:
Includes:
A hooded robe with a Hogwarts crest on the chest, a white button-front shirt, a pleated twill skirt, a pair of knee-high socks, and a pair of black Mary Janes
Kinda unfair that the skirt costs as much as the pants but we'll assume the skirt's more work to make because those pleats, they look crisp. Seriously, the uniforms look really well done.

AG Sorting Hat and Nimbus 2000 // $32
Item#HJR42
Wands at the ready! It's time for a spellbinding start to the school year with this doll-sized set that helps fans find their Hogwarts™ house.
Includes:
A moleskin Hogwarts Sorting Hat to tell you which house you belong in, and a broom with a gold Nimbus 2000 logo at the top, gold painted detail on the bottom, and a kickstand for action on the Quidditch pitch
Truly, I cannot stress how much cackling this release has caused due to fandom's sulking over how it broke down when it came to being bundled. This set does nothing for me but it's not terribly overpriced. I've seen shittier looking hats go for more and while the broom looks like plastic meh, I do like how they did the work arounds on how to have it stand and how to hold it.

AG Hogwarts Trunk for Dolls // $70
Item#HJR40
Hogwarts fans can head to Platform 9 3/4 with this trunk, which holds everything they need for a magical school year!
Premium features:
A trunk with gold rivet and bracket details, and a printed Hogwarts crest on the top. Inside, the trunk is flocked and has a secret fabric pocket to store small items.
Includes:
A wand, a plush pet owl, a blank journal with a printed Hogwarts crest on the cover, and a faux feather quill and ink well
A Hogwarts acceptance letter and supply list that fold up and fit in a printed envelope with a pretend wax seal tab
A printed Hogwarts Express train ticket and plenty of snacks for the ride, including a box of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and a Honeydukes Chocolate Frog box with a chocolate frog and a trading card of Albus Dumbledore
On the one hand, I adore the idea of this. I love little itty bitty versions of things and the trunk idea is wonderful. On the other, I think the trunk looks terrible (cue the "ugh, plastic!" crowd though my issue isn't the plastic but how it actually looks) which is a shame because it should've been amazing. Sigh. I don't love the owl either but AG's pets have always been hit or miss. This one would probably have gotten me for oddity reasons if given enough time.

There are a couple of bundles, including one that gets you everything for the low, low price of $306. I'm including the pictures because they're the new dolls.
I like the girls and the Sonali mold boy. Not!Cedric is definitely not Cedric and meh to me. I will have that MG mold even if the basic blue eyes are a disappointment. If you wanted Corinne's mold but with brown hair, well, now she can be yours.

You've got modified Sonali (boy), Corinne, Marie Grace, Sonali, Modified Classic (boy), and Jess with fun colored blonde hair and freckles. It's funny how they didn't use the blonde classic mold in any of the group shots but used her in all the modeling pictures while not highlighting any of the others beyond boy!Sonali.

AG Mini Mystery Pack: Christmas Collection // $8
Item#HKB54
Tis the season for surprises! She can open the Christmas gift-shaped blind pack to reveal one of 17 doll-sized Christmas surprises: A tree cookie and milk, a nutcracker, an insulated bottle, a reindeer cookie and cookie cutter, a hot chocolate mug and marshmallows, a lollipop and candy cane box, an ornament cookie and cookie cutter, an ornament and Christmas ring, a snowman cookie and drink, cookies and carrots with a card, a jelly cookie and tray, a rolling pin and dough, a star cookie and icing, a boy cookie and a girl cookie, a snowflake ornament and a chocolate nutcracker, a hot chocolate mug and candy canes, or a gingerbread cookie cutter and sprinkles.
Please note:
All food items are pretend.
Item selection is random and is in blind packaging. We cannot accept requests for specific items. You may receive duplicates!
All sales of Mystery Packs are final if opened: no returns or exchanges.
God help me, I love just about all of them. Another cackle was gained here because those candy canes pictured in the shot with the mug? That's a fucking print out and oh, how I laughed. But they'd better not just be a picture in the actual pack, AG.
You can also get an eight pack AG Ultimate Mini Mystery Pack: Christmas Collection for $62 but just like last year, it's a crapshoot and there's no guarantee you won't wind up with doubles even in the set. WTF.

AG Mini Mystery Pack: Hanukkah Collection // $8
Item#HKB39
Mazel tov! She can open the dreidel-shaped blind pack to reveal one of 10 doll-sized surprises: A pouch with gelt, a menorah plate and donut, a blue dreidel and pink dreidel, a teacup and saucer, a bracelet and ring, applesauce and latkes, a spatula and pan, rugelach and a plate, challah and a knife, or a necklace and headband.
Lest you think the Jewish kids are left out of being screwed in the mini mystery packs, there's also the Ultimate Mini Mystery Pack: Hanukkah Collection for $62 and also no guarantees of no duplicates. Wow, AG. Wow.
Oddly enough, both ultimate collections show one more option than the regular listing. Christmas offers the big ol' thing of Hot Cocoa and Hanukkah's got the rainbow menorah.
There's a new stocking this year, some girls cosmetics stuff, and AG's throwing their hat into the pillow-plush ring with a square Coconut pillow but I'm tired and not hunting it down.
