impyUpdate tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime. Tomorrow you might get pictures of things pictured here but for now we'll just paint those mental pictures with ~words~ or something.
Been re-reading the vampire SVH arc with the great and powerfulluxken27 and I swear, her reviews up on Goodreads make the books seem better than they actually are and I love it. The books themselves are somehow better than I remember (Liz barges into the boys locker room and AJ is there!) and worse (Liz's character assassination is well underway by this point. Jessica straight up throws a tantrum at the breakfast table about not seeing a boy and her parents reconsider the ban even though she's gone full Veruca Salt on them!) but they definitely scratch that Halloween itch.
My vacation has begun. :D I didn't do a lot today, sadly, but I did finish the book I've been reading on Libby and I'm hoping to do some more stuff tonight (clean a bit to get that out of the way for the rest of the week, get the rest of my Halloween lighting set up) so we'll just take it as a win because sometimes you simply need to rest.
Oh! But today was apparently boxing day for me as I opened various packages, including my portion ofvenivididolli's Slumberkins order. Until she made her post about them, I had no idea they existed, or if I did, I'd forgotten. I got the witch owl and the glow in the dark bat and they're so very soft and cuddly. I grabbed the owl for Mom but she immediately snagged the bat so I'm not sure if I'll keep the owl for me or gift it to Khalan. ♥
Later I opened my AG order that I made when everyone kept shrieking about limited quantities on things. I did wait until the 20% off code (DELIGHT I think) was working online again and used that and my expiring reward, so I wound up buying:
The witch costume in person is very cute. I appreciate them giving the broom handle a plastic holder so the dolls can actually hold this version and the rainbow vibe is super cute. i am also very grateful that I didn't buy the version last year with the crappier shoes.
Maryellen's Cowgirl costume felt closer to ye olden days of AG though this feeling is lessened by the fact that there are no socks with this outfit. You do get a little fold out booklet that tells you about the outfit and a bit about ME's time period and god, I love it when AG remembers to do stuff like this.
What I think of as my grandfather's outfit is probably the best of the bunch, as it feels very much like an actual human outfit scaled down to doll size. Socks and tie included. I have no idea which doll will wear this but they'll be fantastic.
To round out the Janie and Jack collab, I snagged what's pictured on MG!Swift here:
Beret is fine. I'm reminded once more that I kind of hate wool but the pom is cute and soft.
The shirt looks lovely in the package and I'm hoping it'll be just as nice on.
The skirt is festive as hell.
The boots are exactly as pictured and I mostly snagged them because I dig boots and they kinda complete the look here.
I also grabbed the plaid skirt because it screams BSC!Shannon and I also think it's cute.
This year's holiday PJs are quite cute but the shoes are just as dumb in real life as I thought they'd be.
Gwynn's skating outfit is the only thing in the order I'm a little underwhelmed by. In general I think it's very pretty and I knew the colors would be muted but it feels like they should've cranked up the colors just a bit more. These are definitely winter to early frozen Spring colors but they don't ~pop~ and grab attention the way an outfit directly marketed at young kids maybe should. I know, this might be the one time I'm advocating for AG to go a little brighter but here we are. It feels lovely and it does make me want to grab Gwynn the next time she's on sale and I have money. *eyes picture* Also, might need to double check to make sure the blade guards were included. Toe pick!
Depending on my laziness levels this week, we may do actual picture reviews of these later, but I imagine this is the tl;dr version. If you want to see anything on a specific doll, now's the time to ask. Except Gwynn's as that'll have to go on Emerson as she's the only Wellie I have.
I did take advantage of one other sale this week but it hasn't come in yet, obviously. Squishable had a sale on their spooky line and I noticed that the cute little mini "plague nurse was down considerably in stock. So I ordered her after dithering for a couple of days. I'm still not sure I'm going to love her in person because the only time I don't mentally cringe or want to shriek in horror at plague doctor anything is the Squishables line. Yes, this meant everyone bringing them back into vogue for the pandemic was just the absolute worst for me. -_- She's adorable in pictures though and far cuter than the Squishmallow version. Well. I assume. I saw the Squishmallows at the Teeter and they might not give me the same heebie jeebies as other plague doctor stuff but they aren't really ones I'd want either.
And for reasons I still do not understand, I also grabbed the new rainy day version. It's my favorite of the new collection because it's just so random and the distressed art/write-up cracks me up and really, by now you should know that I buy things that amuse me more than they probably should.
Now I'm off to grab the pumpkin from the wall so it won't get all wet and gross (dew!) and I can pop some batteries in later. Gotta figure out what else I'm doing.
