ugh, people

Before I run back to bed, I must grumble or else I won't be able to sleep.
Checked Mattel's forum for funsies about Rochelle as I was still deciding whether I'd go for her, and was leaning towards yes as better to change my mind later and sell than want and not have, y'know? But noticed the announcement that no paypal for her. Boo. I was curious as to whether the 10 friggin pages would say WHY and they did, but it was basically, "they're doing something elsewhere and when they do that, paypal gets taken away as an option." And if you dare to ask why that is, you're told you're not a responsible adult who should have a credit card you're willing to whip out for doll purchases on a whim and also you're the one with the problem, not the asshat who can't just say, "I don't know the why, just that this is what happens in this situation." Sometimes "I don't know" is a perfectly valid response!
People are dicks and I hate them.
Fwiw, I was not the person asking the question on the forum, as I literally just found out about the issue 20 minutes ago, but I am the person flipping off internet people because fuck them for being condescending pricks.
Also, would've totally thought they just took the paypal option away because of the ability to dispute the charge within a time frame since this is a preorder deal but here we are.
Rochelle, I shall have to love you from afar. Or poke shoppay, who gets real clingy when you do so. Ah well.
I cannot imagine how vexed I'd be if I were seeing fandom's general thoughts on her in addition to the forum's in addition to the whole "well, I'm a thousand years old and I don't like being asked questions I won't answer" side. People are the worst and I hate dealing with them.

Date: 2023-04-15 03:53 am (UTC)I kind of get where they're coming from with the cards, because to use Paypal, you need to have a bank account, which should have a debit card, or a credit card. So both major forms of card are covered and ShopPay is there for the 2-week installments. (I used that.) The most valid complaint I'm seeing is from international buyers, though if they have debit cards, they should be fine. I do think the replies were dickish though. "I'm old and I grew up with checks." Yeah, barely anyone has checks anymore. They also don't like debit cards. Who says that? The interest on a credit card is far more problematic and irresponsible than a debit card, which draws from your own money. And I definitely agree with the person who explained the valid reasons why you might not have a credit card. That person is like some old asshole collector and their minion is, too.

Date: 2023-04-15 11:57 am (UTC)It was the absolute holier than thou, condescending assholery that got me. And how no one was batting an eye at it, either. *snort* Minion. Love it. And somehow I missed the weirdness on debit cards. o_O I could see saying you'd prefer not using a debit card online as it getting compromised could wipe you out temporarily but that's not really the vibe I got from the ancient check using one.
